Pleasant but far from great. Comfortable bed. The breakfast was poor. Hotel is in a very good location. Public areas are pretty.

This hotel came recommended to us and it is a hidden jewel in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. Walking distance to shopping, dining, car rentals and Amtrak. Would highly recommend especially if arriving by train and renting a car. We would definitely stay again on our next excursion to the Central Coast by rails.

Friendly staff, nice continental breakfast, convenient location to downtown.

Room is small but clean, bed is comfortable. Air conditioning has little noise but not affect sleeping. Coffee machine is good. Walking distance to county courthouse , big fig tree , train station, easy drive to beach and stearns wharf.

I've been to this hotel several times. Rooms are small and elevator is old and rickety, but the place is charming, the staff is very nice, the breakfast is good and free, wireless is free. Great location downtown.

Hotel location is the only thing it has going for it. Breakfast was limited, and only a few tables are available for guests.

Charming old hotel. Rooms are on the small side but nicely appointed and comfortable. The lobby is lovely. The location is perfect--within walking distance of the beach and all the sights, restaurants, and shops of State St.

We had 2 days in Santa Barbara and I wanted something that was conveniently located to the center of town. This hotel definitely fits the bill. There were many different types of restaurants and many shops. The wharf and the harbor were both an easy walk away. The hotel is very nicely decorated in an old Spanish theme. Very clean and the staff were all very pleasant. The continental breakfast was nicely done with just what you need for a good start to the day.

The staff specially the pm shift, were very helpful, courteous and attentive to our needs. The hotel location is very convenient and although the rooms were very small, it was clean and comfortable. We had problems with the wifi after the second day and that was our only complain.

For our particular needs, we chose this hotel for it's location. It was perfect for us. The free Continental Breakfast was satisfying. The room was immaculate but a bit small. It was the cozy Queen. We heard no outside or inside noise. The staff was excellent. Because of the location and proximity to all the shopping, waterfront and restaurants it was perfect. The Waterfront Shuttle stops right out the front door and takes you up and down their main street and the beach for 50 cents per person.

This property is nice. The rooms aren't large, but they are clean (seem recently renovated) and the beds are comfortable.Note that they only have Valet parking, and if you need a good night of sleep on a busy weekend night, you should request a room on the back side of the property. The value for the money is pretty good. You can literally walk outside to State street and be right in the middle of it, or walk a few blocks down to the ocean. There's a Starbucks right next door which is a plus!

My wife and I stayed here over Thanksgiving. Perfect location in Santa Barbara within walking distance of tons of restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, etc. Hotel has a historic vibe but is still sufficiently updated to be comfortable. I would stay here again no question.

Perfect location for beach and shopping, grwat continental breakfast

Ideal location for walking to shops, restaurants and night life! Great staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.

Stayed at this hotel for memorial day holiday. This hotel is located at the heart of SB downtown! You don't have to worry about horrible downtown parking anymore since beach, courthouse, all bars&restaurants and everything are in walking distance!! Other than this is a average 3-star hotel.

We had a great time and great service from staff the entire weekend. The location of the hotel makes it easy to park and walk to restaurants and sights along State Street and the parking itself was inexpensive and convenient. The bed was comfortable and there was a refrigerator in room and easy layout despite the size of the room which was a little small but then it is a historic hotel. We will be back and we loved the charm of this hotel.

Overall very good. Clean room, comfortable bed, free bottled water in the room every day. The location is excellent--very close to tons of restaurants and shops, and close enough to walk (or rent a bike) and go to the beach. Only complaint is that the elevator is very old and slow, but then again I don't mind walking up the stairs.

Elevator not functioning Room not ready Wrong room

Nice older Hotel that was recommended to me by Paul Dargan , the owner of Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant @ 18 E. Ortega St. about a block away#. Dargan made an excellent recommendation and his place was fantastic , also. I enjoyed the old style Hotel and the free breakfast starting at 7AM. Hotel Santa Barbara is right in the middle of the Friday night action on State Street. State Street reminded me of the bar scene in a Star Wars film. The elevator was a historic classic worth the visit into the past. Valet parking was cheap and well done at $7 for secure parking. Jerry v. #P.S. did I mention Dargan's Irish Pub ?)

Besides the great location of this hotel, which is in the middle of state st, this hotel was one of the worst experiences I've had. When I walked into my room, everything seemed clean...however, when I pulled the covers off the bed, the bed sheets had hairs and "curly" hairs all over it. Sickening! So I called the front desk to ask for a bed sheet change and they said that they would send someone up. 3 hours later, after we had returned from dinner at 10pm, I see a pile of clean sheets on the table. It seems housekeeping didn't feel like changing the sheets and wanted to just dump their sheets on the table. Talk about customer service! Also, don't bother trying to get a good nights sleep, the walls and door are so thin you'll be able to hear everyone's conversation down the hall.
