**Check-in was smooth and the staff was friendly. The location is lovely and really the highlight of the property. That said, the rooms feel very dated and could use an update. I was disappointed with the “upgrade” I was offered. I originally booked a Deluxe room with a King and a fireplace and was upgraded to a Premium Bluff King, also with a fireplace. Unfortunately, the room was on the first floor, very dark, and had a noticeable smoky smell. There was no ocean view from the room itself—only if you stepped outside. While the fireplace was larger, we were only there one night, and the view mattered far more to us. Interestingly, my daughter kept her original Deluxe King room and had a beautiful Pacific Ocean view with a smaller fireplace, which neither of us really cared about. Overall, it’s an okay hotel for a short stay because of the location, but I’d recommend being cautious about accepting an “upgrade” and confirming the view before doing so.**

Great location. The sound of the ocean from your patio and a fireplace to sit around at night. We went here for a couple's weekend away. 10 minutes to Hearst Castle, 10 to Cambria, and 30 to Morro Bay. Perfect location. The food was great, and the staff were very friendly and professional.

The setting of the Cavalier Resort is beautiful, so the location did not disappoint. I really wanted to like the resort itself, but there were a few things that could be improved upon. First, they were fully booked but clearly not staffed to handle it, so several guests, ourselves included, were not able to check in until after the 4 pm check-in. They seemed very overwhelmed. One of the things they advertised was the s'mores kits for the property's fire pits. When I asked for one for my son, I was told they had sticks, but if I wanted to make s'mores, I would have to go to the store to buy the rest. The resort itself could use some updates; the rooms were somewhat dated, although comfortable. We stayed in a room that had a connecting room. The walls were very thin, and the guests next to us were loud, and it sounded like they were in our room. Lastly, as a family-friendly resort that offers room service, it would be nice if they were a bit more flexible. On our last night, my son was tired, so we wanted to order food to the room. They had pasta, but my son is picky, so I asked them to make penne with butter. They seemed a bit confused, so I clarified over the phone that they could do just penne with butter, and they assured me they could. When they brought it, it was basically their fettuccine Alfredo dish with chicken, but without the Alfredo sauce, and it was $26. Not what I was expecting. If they couldn't do it, I wish they had told me.

Kind of expensive for what you're getting with the dated decor and small rooms, but as they say location, location, location. Bed was comfortable a little more toward firm than soft so your results may vary. A good mix of firm and soft pillows with only one really lumpy one. Housekeeping every three days, but friendly and responsive staff if you ever needed anything sooner. Small jacuzzi was a bit far from our room but nice and hot. Definitely not a great property if you are in a wheelchair. Narrow doorways and tall treads and paths that end randomly in grassy areas. Two pools on site and moderately heated but not warm for winter swimming. On site restaurant and one not far away both were mediocre but the food was tasty enough. Spectacular views and nice fire pits if you got one early and smore kits for sale in the lobby. Really great staff all around.

Wife and I came to Cambria/San Simeon for a 3 night getaway with our Pug. We chose this hotel for 2 reasons, pet friendly (at no additional charge!) and the location. We chose an Ocean Front Delux room, and location and view were amazing. First day we had the most incredible sunset you could imagine. The perfect way to start off the long weekend. Location and property were amazing for this price range. No complaints all there. And the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Now the downsides to be aware of. The rooms are aging a bit. Not a big deal if you don't plan on spending much time in the room. There are 2 mini fridges, one with items for purchase, and another empty one for your items, The empty one wasn't working. WMaintenance came, very nice, he mentioned that the mini fridges aren't very good and don't function properly. Hmm. One of the lounge chairs in the room had no stuffing in the back of it at all. They were covered with nice "covers", and looked fine, but when you sat in it you felt like you were falling through the back of the chair. Front desk, said the owners have been promising to upgrade furniture forever, but have yet to do it. Hmm... Lastly, we orderd food in one night, lit the fireplace, and were looking forward to streaming a movie or our favorite TV show. TV was absolute garbage and useless. Every channel was snowy, and no way to hook up my laptop to stream. Had to watch on Laptop. Disappointing. :(
