We originally were set for the oceanfront unit, but decided to move to the oceanview by the grass and fire pits. Room was wonderful and we will be back.

My husband and I here stayed one night on a west coast roadtrip and we loved this place. You can tell its old but they keep it updated and in fantastic condition. We had a downstairs room with a porch facing the ocean. The wood burning fireplace was a nic esurprise as was rhe size of the room. There were lots of things out on the lawn to do, pool/hot tub, and areas to just sit and watch the waves from above, and it was a very short walk down to the beach. We loved the little restaurant next door too. Breakfast was great and staff was sweet.

This property has no Air Conditioning in the rooms. Who would ever think to ask if a property has AC today? So it gets to 65 degrees at night big deal when you have to put up with the outside noise.

Immediately after walking into the room it had a strange smell that was not tolerable. I speculated that it was coming from the fireplace. We were told that there were no other rooms available. The staff tried to help eliminate the Oder by using an ionizer machine for one hour but it did not work. My poor wife had to try and sleep with a towel over her head and could not sleep at all! The bathroom window had spider webs and a tile that was broken and deteriorating dust. Never cleaned for weeks! We were not pleased with this stay!

The reason you stay at this hotel is for the view of and access to the ocean. The fire pits are lit on cool nights. Great for walking dogs. The hotel is very old and creaky. The room was clean enough but the hotel is badly in need of updating.

There’s no microwave in the rooms, or even anywhere in the hotel, not even in the office. It’s really inconvenient, especially since there aren’t many good food options nearby. The only choice is to drive further out to get something to eat, but then you can’t heat it up later without a microwave.

Anniversary trip

We went here for our first year anniversary the staff were amazing, but the room smelled like urine next to the bed. The bathrooms have no fan. There was mold under the overflow drain in the tub. Champagne was good. The stocked bar and snacks were a nice touch. Hot tub was nice to hangout in and the patio was very nice to sit out on to watch the sunset and the ocean view. There were a lot of people with dogs one lady was giving her dog a bath outside the front of the rooms. I personally will never stay in this hotel again. I do recommend the restaurant for a nice hot meal and a good drink.

Cavalier is always our go to hotel on the Central California Coast. The staff is friendly, the room is clean and has the best balcony ever! A little disappointed that the hot tub bubbles and jets didn't work...

Quiet Oceanfront Property

Exceptional experience with Roxy at checkin...fun personality and very helpful. The oceanfront room with fireplace was beautiful. The property itself is a little outdated.But the rooms were big and well kept. The food at the property restaurant was surprisingly good.The only downside is the lack of a lounge or a bar. While drinks are available in the restaurant, it's not a fun or relaxing setting for a cocktail. The property is poised nicely between hearst castle and Cambria. Wonderful overall experience at a great price.
