I travel a lot and have stayed at some really nice 5 star hotels. I like Live Aqua much more than the other well known 5 star brand in San Miguel as it feels hip and less stuffy than the others. It is chic and great people watching.
The place is really nice, offers great amenities and great restaurants. You really do not have to leave the resort if you do not want to as they offer great services. Here is what I do not like and nothing was taken care of: I paid a decent amount for this place to go with my wife and baby. One of the employees was cordial asking me how my stay has been and if I travel frequently. Next thing I know, they're trying to sell me a points concierge service. -It seems they only targeted people that reserved on American websites(I spoke only in Spanish as I am fluent and reserved about a week before arriving) -They sent over 3 people during brunch, which wasn't cheap and I did not enjoy it, as they talked and talked for about an hour and half(I was trying to be patient and calm) -I told them we needed to see paperwork and a website, so I could at least check out the details, but they couldn't provide that -The next day, we go to our room after a day in the vineyards around San Miguel de Allende and my key doesn't work, we were out all day, the baby was asleep, the last thing I wanted to deal with was no key working in an expensive place, so I run to the front desk, they re-activate my key and lo and behold, who was at our door waiting for a meeting, the salesman. I was livid -I told the lady at the concierge, if I was going to come to a place with a sales pitch, i would have at least received something free, at the end, they didnt do anything to resolve it.
