Rodeway Inn Lackland AFB - Sea World2.0 out of 5.0

I wish I would have read the reviews before we booked this hotel. The management responses to the prior bad reviews states they will make improvements to ensure future visits are better. They have not improved. The linens were grossly stained. The bedspread was stained and had holes in it. We usually love the smaller motels because they have more charm to them but they need decent linens and the room needs to be clean. We won't stay here again. I don't usually write bad reviews but I hate to see other people book their rooms here.
It was approximately 6 miles from Lackland. I was side tracked thinking it was located near Lackland Base so thought it would be good for travelers. The linen was so nastily stained. There was blood on the bed skirt thing which looked fresh. The linen was so mix-matched and although housekeeping changed the towels everyday, they didn't really clean. I dropped a lysol wipe right near the nightstand of which would've been seen while making the bed and when I returned, it was still there. The place gave me the creeps and it not already been prepaid, I would've left. That's the con of buying rooms on 3rd party sites. Nothing positive at all including the breakfast. I asked for water and she pointed to an empty, dirty looking pitcher. I walked clear out the door; didn't want anything!
We stayed here for BMT Graduation Jan 25 to30. Upon entering the room there was an overwhelming pine sol smell but the room was visually not clean and mirrors were smudged. Bedding had lots of holes in blankets on the bed. Dingy white linens. Friday morning there was no hot water to take a shower. It was reported to a woman at the front desk, no apology was offered. She had a large sheet that she was circling room numbers of other guests who had no hot water as well. Saturday morning there were several cockroaches scurrying around in the bathroom.
It was OK. The price was right and it's close to base but the neighborhood is shady. Breakfast wasn't stocked and had to look for someone to refill coffee and other drinks. It definitely did not feel safe to be outside after dark. If you need a cheap place to stay and aren't fussy on ANY level, then I guess it's ok. But if you want something a little nicer there are plenty of places to choose from in the same price range. Friends stayed about 10 mins from base and had a GREAT room for $6 more a night. The bit of an extra drive is well worth it.
Tried staying here for my son's graduation at Lackland. Stayed one night, woke up in the morning and there were roaches. Informed the front desk of a problem and said that if something wasn't done, we would be leaving. We went to graduation that day and came back to inform them we would be leaving. They said they would charge us for the rest of our entire stay. It's one thing to say we got there too late after the long day of graduation to get out of our 2nd night. But they said they would charge me for my whole 6 night stay. Bottom Line....just because it is closer to base and cheaper doesn't mean you should stay here.
The bathroom was neat and hotel looked nice. But the bed didn't feel properly cleaned and had stains. Tried to sleep on pull out bed but saw dead bugs and old food as soon as I opened it up. Floor did not look like it had been vacuumed. Would not stay here again.
It was great, really enyojed my stay. Would visit again. The rooms were nice and clean, loved the pool. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was good, loved the texas shaped waffles. I would highly reccomend.
We were looking for a budget stay while we were visiting Lackland AFB for Airman graduation. The room was clean and roomy. We had a single king bed. There was a microwave, coffee maker, frig/freezer, and a hairdryer. It was quiet, the staff was helpful and friendly, and we were happy to be able to get breakfast in the morning there. Another plus was that the AFB was only 5 minutes away, if that.
We arrived from Boston at 12:45am exhausted. Opened the door to the room and was shocked at how outdated and dirty it was. They was dirty Kleenex and clothes price tags on the floor next to the bed. The bathroom was never cleaned from its prior occupants. We were in San Antonio for the Air Force graduation. We checked out immediately and got a room on base. Do yourself a favor and do not stay there!
At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay here -- a modest-looking motel, built perhaps in the 1960s or '70s, surrounded by industrial businesses. But I was wrong. As soon as I pulled into the driveway entrance, I was greeted by friendly, nicely dressed, and completely helpful staff. They rented me a room which was clean and comfortable, with a bed that seemed to be the kind you find only at higher-priced properties. The mattress gave me the best sleep I've had in a long time. The bathroom was spotless. The furnishings are older, yes, but they were fine for their purpose. The new flat digital TV screen had a full cable listing of every popular channel, and the Wi-Fi for my smart phone was excellent. When I had breakfast the next morning, I was taken aback by the variety of items offered -- waffles (shaped like the great state of Texas, a real hoot!), cereals, sausages, egg patties, toast, hard-boiled eggs, fresh fruit, flavorful oatmeal packets (with hot water to make it all work). And of course almost every beverage you could reasonably ask for -- coffee, milk, orange juice, apple juice, even filtered water if you wanted it. And when I spent the next night there, I noticed something that hadn't occurred to me the night before, the quietness of the place. No noisy neighbors, no noisy neighborhood. Apparently the motel is patronized by mostly middle-class parents and family members of graduating military trainees at the nearby Air Force base, and I felt completely safe and at home. And when I checked out on my last day and saw the "bottom line" figure, I could only marvel at the reasonableness of the price. Okay, they're a little higher than those chains whose main claim to fame is cheap prices, but they're not much higher, and you get a tremendous boost in amenities and comfort when you stay here. I'm still shaking my head at the tremendous luck I had in finding this place, and in future when I'm back in San Antonio this is where I'll be staying. I want to try their pool when the weather is warmer! :)
