Quality Hotel Nova Domus4.0 out of 5.0

Older European hotel with small elevator. Surprising breakfast buffet with a wide selection of food and beverages. Very courteous staff at the desk and throughout the hotel. Grocery just around the corner and a few bakery/shops as well with great tomato pie and pizza for breakfast along with sweets.
Stayed here for four nights; not a bad location for access to Vatican and the sites. Lovely restaurant and housekeeping staff. Our room was clean and functional but the good things end there.....were woken up three out of four nights by kids on a school trip; coming in at 2 and 3 am, doors banging, screaming and shouting. We complained twice at at Reception and on check out but all fell on deaf ears. So frustrated that I wrote my review while waiting for my taxi to the airport. There was no duty manager to speak to and no empathy or offer of compensation. Love travelling, love Rome and never complain but this was poor!
The hotel has a terrific location and reasonably nice rooms. Unfortunately, it has a few issues. The desk staff were weak on giving good useful information on getting around in Rome. The Wi-Fi was incredibly slow and almost unusable. The shower had a very fancy three head shower but parts were missing and only the hand held unit worked. The hair dryer fan was so slow it was faster to just air dry. The buffet was European style, which is fine, except they need to be better at keeping it filled. The first day the sausage was empty the whole time we were at breakfast. The eggs and cheese were a little runny for most American guest. The rooms were fine, the location terrific, and might stay here again but it could be a lot better.
The hotel was well placed - however, when we first arrived, I did not have this opinion! The area has lots of graffiti and I thought I was going to some ghetto! But, there is a lot of graffiti in the entire city! The room was well equipped. Fresh towels and toiletries each day. The air con didn't seem to work, but the window and shutters seemed to keep the heat out. We were also there when the weather was not too hot. The carpet, however looked like it had been there since the 80's. The furniture needs updating, and it would have been nice for tea and coffee facilities in the room. Breakfast was nice and well equipped. Staff were friendly and nice. The cleaning staff always greeted us.... they were very friendly. Overall, it was an "OK" hotel.
Location wise its excellent.. only a few minutes from the vatican and many restaurants n shops only problem was the hidden charge of €6pp per night for city taxes that nobody mentions 😔 so we were down €50 before the holiday had even begun!
I stayed here with my sister from 4th - 11th April. We arrived around 8pm and, although we had booked separate rooms, they had been booked on the same reservation so we expected to have rooms close to one another. Not to be - I was on the first floor and my sister on 3rd floor. To reach my room I had to get a lift from the lobby to the second floor - walk down a long corridor then get in a different lift down to floor one where I had to walk through the restaurant to reach my room. The room itself was fairly spacious but very dated and the carpet was threadbare. Initially I thought I had a double bed but it was in fact two singles pushed together - one of which was higher than the other. The bed was very uncomfortable - I think the mattresses probably belonged to Caesar they were that old! My room looked out onto the road in front of the hotel. Breakfast was ok but not very extensive. There were rolls and pastries, cheeses, cereals, yoghurt, boiled eggs and scrambled egg which actually looked like whipped uncooked egg. There was a toaster but it did not work properly and you had to put your bread through about 8 times for it to get any colour. One day the toaster actually caught alight - quite alarming as no fire alarm went off in the restaurant. The restaurant advertises a bar - this was the restaurant with one person working there at night. If he was in the kitchen you had to hang around waiting for him to come out to order a drink. We usually only had a coffee before we went to bed as there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. One night we were in there and there were a few other people in there having a drink. It got to about 11pm and the barman decided it was time to go home - after making a big show of packing bottles away he realised that nobody was moving so he very rudely turned the lights out. The evening receptionist was extremely surly. My sister had a problem with her shower being cold and went to report it to him - he actually asked her if she wanted somebody to show her how to use It! He then sent a workman up to check it and low and behold he came to the conclusion that the shower was cold! Basil Fawlty on reception then told her to leave it running for 20 minutes to give it time to warm up. Needless to say she demanded a new room which Basil agreed to (probably so he could get back to his internet browsing). On the plus side - the cleaners did an amazing job and were polite and courteous. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the Vatican and the metro station. We bought tickets for the hop on hop off bus but wished we had used the metro as it is so easy and cheap to use. I think the hotel name should be changed to just Nova Domus as there is nothing quality about it ( apart from the cleanliness). I certainly wouldn't stay here again unless it had a good refurb and they got rid of the rude staff!
My sister and I stayed at this hotel between 4 and 11 April. We arrived about 8 pm and had a fairly quick check in. However although travelling together I was on 3rd floor and my sister on the 1st floor. My room was spacious but dated. The following morning I decided to shower to find that the water was cold. The shower also flooded the bathroom! However I had a shower. Later that day I complained to the very surly male receptionist about the water. His reply was 'do you want someone to show you how to use it?' I did tell him that I knew how to use a shower but he insisted on sending a man to my room to check! Surprise surprise it was cold. I was told to run it fir 20 minutes but I refused and asked to be moved to another room! I finally was given room 332 just doors away. The water was hot. There are no coffee or tea facilities in the room and if you want toast with breakfast I suggest you put it in the toaster the night before!! Breakfast offering was adequate but scrambled egg was just liquid! Vile!! The 'bar' is the restaurant outside terrace where you can get coffee or a drink. We only had coffee here at €3 per lukewarm cup!! There is a machine in the restaurant which is used st breakfast but turned off and locked at night! Safety was also a concern as the toaster actually caught fire one morning but no smoke alarm sounded. I also would not recommend it to anybody with limited mobility as lifts are tiny and I don't think a wheelchair would fit in one. The reception staff were extremely rude and unhelpful and one evening we were in the 'bar' and the waiter clearly wanted to go home as he started removing the bottles of drink and he turned all the lights out! The only positives are that the room was very clean, the cleaning staff were the only staff who acknowledged you! It's a 10 minute walk to the Vatican and metro station and although I didn't feel unsafe walking the surrounding streets like some reviewers, there was a lot of graffiti and the area didn't look very inviting! There is also an excellent Thai restaurant next door which is not expensive. One more strange thing is that to get to the restaurant from reception you have to go to floor 2 walk down the corridor and then get in another lift to floor 1!! I think to call this hotel 'quality' is a joke and I would say at best it's a 2/3 star! Would I stay again? NO!!!!
the rooms were musty and smelled like mold. the bathroom ceiling had yellow liquid falling from it. THE POWER WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SHOWER. So me and my roommate ran into the hall barley dressed to get help, we got locked out of our room. the hotel manager fixed the power but did not let us back into our room until almost 45 minutes later and complained about doing it the entire time, that was around 2 am. probably the worst experience of my life.
I booked this hotel over 6months ago for myself &5friends,to celebrate my 70th birthday. I specifically requested 3twin rooms which the hotel had at the time of booking. On arrival we were given 3doubles. I refused these as not acceptable as we had requested twin beds. After much discussion , arguing and finally seeing the manageress - 3 hours later -we were eventually given 3,twin rooms. These were what had been asked for in the first place ! Only because we persevered and would not accept the doubles , did we get what we had asked for..Why is this !!! The hotel insisted that they did not get the request for twins from the booking agent, but all my paperwork from the agent showed a request for twin rooms. Apart from this the hotel was ok, breakfast, lovely, rooms dingy, staff helpfully, location good for Vatican.
This hotel is very sad and does not offer what it advertises i.e. Balcony s ... not available ,terrace bar ..... not to be found , bar ..... not available .we were very disappointed to have booked this hotel and then to find totally different from offered feel we have been miss sold rand when we tried to discuss with staff they were less than helpful , very disappointed !!!
