Service was excellent. Room was clean and spacious. Amenities were very nice. Location was great.

Incredibly fine linens, beautifully monogrammed towels, turn down service with slippers and two doors between the bedroom and hallway to minimize sound. The staff is well trained and friendly. Highly recommend.

Perfect location. Quiet, but close. Great service

It is a pretty nice hotel, but does not likely deserve 5-stars. We had several issues in our 2-day stay: 1) We left $6 Euros in coins in the car to pay for tolls, when the valet brought the car back there was only 5 cents left. Our fault for leaving money in the car, but the Valet looked respectable and we thought because of the 5-star hotel it could be safe. 2) It rained during our last day there. Inside our room. It actually rained more in our bathroom than outside! Torrential rain was poring in thought he ceiling and light fixture in the bathroom. 3) When we told the front desk clerk that it was raining in our room, instead of a sorry, or here please have breakfast on us for your inconvenience, her response was: "Yes it is because it is raining quite a bit outside". In our house when it rains outside we have a fair expectation of it not raining inside. We were thinking we could assume the same about our hotel, but apparently not. No apology, offer for a credit, offer for a voucher, offer for a free meal, etc. It was all justified by the fact that it was raining outside... so it wasn't so much the fact that there was rain INSIDE our room that irked us, but the nonchalant response of the hotel when we brought that up.

My daughter and I decided to splurge on a larger room and booked a junior suite with a terrace. The room was spacious enough for the two of us, however we were disappointed with the dated and worn appearance of the carpets, furniture, and linens. The large Terrace was nice but was not private. It really was one large Terrace divided into 3 smaller terraces partitioned only by a planter with sparse and wilting plants. As you sat outside you could clearly see and hear the other guests conversations a few feet away from you which made for an awkward vibe while we were having our morning coffee. There was only 1 day of complimentary in room wifi even though it was stated on Orbitz that the wifi was free for our entire stay. Overall, the hotel was ok and would suffice as a last resort, but there are many more exceptional hotels in Rome that are a much better value for the money.

Great staff friendly and welcoming. Very good room but no view at all. Walkable to a number of tourist attractions and restaurants. In house restaurant is pretty good.

We got a spacious room with a nice view overlooking Villa Borghese. Everything from amenities to service is just great, on par with the 5 star rating. The hotel is a few blocks walk to Spanish Steps and other more crowded areas, in a quiet neighborhood, just the way we liked it. Note the hotel's 8th floor roof top won't open until next year (2014), but the view from the 7th floor restaurant balcony is to die for. We just had a few drinks there so no info on the food quality. Breakfast buffet, on the other hand, is superb. Only catch I can think of: no in-room Wi-Fi.

The Splendide chain of luxury lodging remains a top choice among Italian hotel chains; Splendide Royal certainly lives up to this reputation. Its location a few steps from the top of the vaulted Via Veneto neighborhood and in the shadow of the arbory of Villa Borghese is ideal for parties interested in this section of Rome. On one hand, Via Veneto is more sedate than the throngs of tourists making their stays in the vicinity of the Spannish Steps, while on the other hand, Via Veneto offers superior late-night dining and entertainment than many sections of Rome. The Splendide Royal is a good base to explore this section of Rome; ambitious walkers could easily use this location as a base to explore the major historical sights of Rome - those looking to save a few steps (and perhaps a few dollars of their lodging budget) would likely find greater comfort in another section of Rome.
