This is one of the best bargains in Rome. The hotel staff (Chiarra and Alexandro) were courteous, spoke English perfectly, and were able to meet all our needs. The rooms were fairly large and the beds quite comfortable. Breakfast in the dining room (included) was very good with both American and European types of breakfast foods. The location was perfect: close to both the Vatican and the Castle St. Angelo, and within long walking distance of the Pantheon and several other places. Also, Mama's Ristorante down the block had amazing Thai-Italian fusion food. The desk called for a taxi for us and it was there by the time we walked out the gate. The roof-top garden had tables with ramadas that were perfect for pre-dinner wine and socializing with friends. TV was tiny but who goes to Rome to watch TV? This was a delightful experience and we highly recommend it.
We stayed at the Domus Carmelitana for a week in April while attending meetings at the Vatican and fitting in a little sightseeing in between. I highly recommend this hotel. Desk staff and managers speak English and were incredibly helpful and accommodating to needs. Breakfast is included, and there is a nice selection of hot foods, rolls, meats, juices, pastries, etc. They also serve supper at night, but we did not try it, so I can't comment on the quality. They will pack you a box breakfast or lunch upon request. There is a small supermarket around the corner. We picked up some wine and cheese and enjoyed it on the hotel's rooftop terrace one evening. A perfect end to the day! The location is superb - a short walk to St. Peter's and Castel Sant'Angelo. Main road with very fashionable shops a few blocks in one direction, and St. Peter's and numerous restaurants and gift shops a few blocks in the other direction. Room was basic but comfortable and quiet. It included a refrigerator, a safe, and the TV got a few English-language news channels.
Stayed here for a week in April. On arrival we were given a twin room which we questioned due to booking a double. Within 30 minutes the hotel staff had found us a double room and had it ready for us to move into with no problems. The room itself was clean and no issues. I would describe it as functional and basic but perfect for a base to explore the city. Bed and pillows were comfortable enough, good water pressure in the shower but bathroom/shower cubicle was rather small. We choose to have the window open of a night over the AC - both a little noisy but I took ear plugs so again not an issue for us. The fridge in the room was a real plus for us. It was great to be able to keep water/drinks cold as it was incredibly hot during our visit, and there are 2 supermarkets within a couple of minutes walk. There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room unless you pay extra to hire which e chose not to. The hotel was very secure having to buzz reception to get in and out, leaving your keys when you left and lift entry in and out the hotel. The lifts up up the rooms were very old, small and slow and could definitely do with an upgrade! Not a major issue but if you didn’t like lifts you probably wouldn’t want to get in it, and if you’re on the top floor like we were, it’s a lot of steps! Breakfast was a slight disappointment and not as good for us as some reviews suggested. The choice was very traditional continental and limited, the ‘hot’ option of bacon, sausage and scrambled egg was not particularly appetising or tasty, and the toaster didn’t really toast despite putting bread through a few times. Saying this, there was enough to get you started for the day though and the coffee was nice enough for machine made and the choice of juices was good. The ‘bar’ was just a selection at reception with chairs dotted about the public areas or the option to go up to the roof garden on the 4th floor. The prices were very reasonable though (€4.50 for a half bottle of wine, not the best quality but drinkable!) and the views from the roof were lovely. The staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. Location good, fantastic distance to St Peter’s Square and Castel Sant’Angelo (we were lucky enough to have a view of the castle from our room). There are options for public transport near the hotel but we walked everywhere and it was fine. The Colosseum and Roman Baths were the furthest from us and took us around 40 minutes or so to walk to (good shoes a must though!) Plenty of restaurants in walking distance too so lots of options to eat and drink! We were also pleasantly surprised by the tourist tax band this hotel must be in as was a lot less than we had anticipated paying after previous visits to Italy in similar hotels. Overall a good little hotel, not exceptional or for a particularly special occasion, but great as a base if you want to spend most time out in the city sightseeing.
The hotel room we were given was qute large. The location is very close to St Peter's Square. The staff at reception and breakfast room were very helpful., The room was very clean. However I must lut forward two suggestions for hotel management: 1. Why not place two small carpets at the foot of the bed - so that on coming out of bed one feels comfortable by placing feet on them rather than the cold floor. 2. The bath tub is too high to get into to have a shower especially for people like us being 65 years of age. 3. There is not enough leg room when sitting on the toilet - your legs are tightly in contact with bath tub. Overall I would recommend this hotel - by tghe way the breakfast included in the price for room is quite ok.
Wonderful location, amenities, breakfast, staff, and service. I have been to Rome and have stayed in a number of different places. This was my first time at Domus Carmelitana and I would definitely return.
The hotel is in an excellent location, close to the Vatican, with very good transport links close by. Breakfast is fresh with lots of choice. Best of all, the staff members we met were very pleasant and most helpful. This was our second visit and will certainly return!
This hotel was fabulous , we really enjoyed our stay , the reception staff were lovely and very attentive , every question we asked was answered and excellant advice on where to eat was given . We would have loved to have stayed on the hotels roof for dinner but it was closed , we did manage to go up and sit there with drinks ect .and it was October when we visited . The room we had was lovely , very clean and we had a lovely view of the church which had such beautiful windows and the lights on in the evening were beautiful . Our breakfasts were amazing ! , there was everything you could wish for , from fruit , freshly baked bread of so many different types, bacon , eggs , pancakes , fresh sliced meats , salad, cream cheeses, so many unusal fruits and jams , we could not have wished for a better start to the day . we loved our stay so much we will be returning , thank you so much to all the hard working staff for making us feel so special .
We stayed at the hotel for one week mid September 2017. The location of the hotel is very convenient, in walking distance for visits to the Vatican and other POI along the Tiber. However, the room we were allocated was very cold, around 15C, even though the set point on the air-con temp. controller was 27C. In no way was it possible to get the system to deliver some warm air. Next morning we explained the situation at the reception desk and it was finally promissed to have a maintenance man to look at the temp. controller in the room. We never had any feed back from maintenance and we had no indication it got to work properly. The day after we realized, that there were no signals on the app. 50 TV-channels. We asked the reception to fix it and they promissed to send a amaintenance man. But again nothing happend and we had no TV during the entire stay. The first morning we woke up a little before six, due to heavy noise in our room. It lasted for app. 4 minutes and were repeated twice before seven o’clock. The following morning we faced the same problem. Talking to the receptionist he explained that it was due to air change by the air-con system. It was not seen as a reasonable explanation and subsequently we looked into it more thoroughly. It turned out to be the hairdryers in the bath room in the rooms adjacent to ours and the noise went directly through the air-con ductwork from one bathroom to the next bathroom. The hair dryer in our room was of course also very noisy. The theory was later checked by the help of some other guest, who had faced the same problem. When checking out, we informed the hotel manager of theproblems we had faced during our stay.
Excellent accommodation. looking forward to my return visit. great location. very close to St Peters Square. The rooms were immaculate. nice roof top terrace which would be a pleasant area to relax. overall highly recommended.
We had stayed here 10 years ago and liked it so much that we booked again for our stay last month. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was just as clean and nice as it was 10 years ago. The rooms are comfortable, the hotel with the rooftop terrace is beautiful. Breakfast is plentiful and good. Very convenient to Piazza Navona and St. Peter's. Restaurants close by and you can easily get to other attractions. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel.
