Worse 4-star place I have ever experienced & I travel a lot is throughout the world for both, business & pleasure! The rooms are extremely small, little room to walk around bed, the bathrooms are small w/poor lighting. It is an old building like any European bldg w/small elevators. Television channels are in Italian or Chinese language, none in English (news purposes). Little effort to accommodate requests made. Good location if Vatican City. Strong septic tank order emits throughout floor. Breakfast is included, but would be better off eating at a local cafe w/more options & healthier options. Cost exceeded the price of some other lower rated places as it is considered a 4-star; yet, the place should be stripped of the other 3-stars!
The hotel is nice with all the amenities. The best is the location. Its 10 mins walk from the Vatican and there is a subway station nearby. Lots of good places to eat, shop and hangout nearby. 1Euro souvenir shops were the best.
Recommended by Rick Steves, who we trust with suggestions, we landed for two weeks in Rome and wanted to stay near the Vatican. This hotel is in a great location, near to Vatican sites and easy access to the Metro to travel easily to all sites in the Eternal City. We were a bit disappointed with the mildly worn look in the hallways, but were so pleased with the generous, helpful staff and small but comfortable accommodations.
We had a terrible time at this hotel. Firstly the hotel is run down and tired and not how it looks in the photos. We also paid more for a superior room, and when we got the hotel the room was tiny we couldn't even fit our suitcase in! It turns out there is no such thing as a superior room, it is the same as their basic room, so a total rip off. Do not pay extra for this. The hotel's walls were so thin, we were woken up every morning of our stay at 6am being able to hear EVERYTHING in the room next to us. This would go on for about 2 hours. When we complained they said there was nothing they could do. When I emailed them after the trip to seek some form of compensation they sent an email calling us liars, and saying we complained because of 1 minute of a baby crying ( there were no babies at the hotel!). It was probably the rudest email I have ever received. They also advertise the rooftop as having a view of the Vatican and you can't actually see anything. I booked this hotel mainly because of the rooftop bar and it was not at all as advertised Staff rude and unhelpful - please avoid at all costs as it is way overpriced and there are far nicer places to stay in Rome.
With it's proximity to the Metro, this place makes a good base for Roman adventures. 'Old-world charm' is usually a bit euphemism, but I use it here sincerely. There are better appointed hotels out there, but the antiquated fixtures and fittings of Dei Consoli felt right. Not so antiquated is the rooftop terrace, which is a great attraction and a wonderful place to have breakfast. The breakfast itself is plentiful and tasty - we were particularly pleased with the pastry and cake selection - but, a couple more candles under the bacon and egg serving trays wouldn't go amiss. We found the staff to be pleasant and practical and the accommodation price was very reasonable. There's a great little restaurant across the road, and an exceptional beer-house nearby, too. In all, a nice experience.
This hotel is a very reasonable walk to the Vatican. It is clean and properly modern, but continues to retain some quaint character. There is a rooftop breakfast room we loved that becomes a bar later in the day. Mini-bar/ fridge in rooms and updated bathroom. Many good restaurants walking distance and convenience stores. Great gelateria across street and one hundred meters left.
Hotel Dei Consoli was perfect for 8 days in Rome. It was a 10 minutes walk to St. Peters Square and was off a main shopping and eating street. Great rooftop bar and restaurant which we used for breakfast every day and for cocktails in the evenings. I would stay there again!
This hotel is in a great location being close to the Metro and the Vatican. The room we had was fairly small but we only wanted it to sleep in. We went to Rome to see the sights, not stay in the room. Air conditioning worked well, shower was fine and double glazing very effective for noise reduction. Breakfast was typically continental, which I like, but bacon and eggs was available if required. The staff very helpful and looked after our bags after we checked out on last day, and gave us somewhere to change before going to the airport. There is no restaurant for dinner but so many places close by that you are spoilt for choice of where to eat.
Hotel Dei Consoli is an excellent hotel located very near the Vatican wall. It's less than 10 minutes to walk to the Museum entrance if you're taking the tour with the Sistine Chapel. Dennis, the afternoon desk clerk, was extremely helpful by printing boarding passes I'd failed to print at home. If you are flying within the EU and you're non-EU, you must have a printed boarding pass. We were headed to Spain. I'll stay here again. The Metro is an 8 minute walk.
Great location close to the Vatican and underground. We had one of the larger rooms and was more than adequate. Some super restaurants nearby as well as all the shops anyone could want. Breakfast was standard Italian fare, we chose to visit the local coffee shops but that was just because we like to do that rather than anything wrong at the hotel. The reception staff are very helpful and even gave us tickets for the Palm Sunday service - not necessarily religious but a great experience. There are no real negatives, maybe a bit dated but all in all I would definitely return here.
