We were a group of 37 people, includng 3children under one and 6 children between ages 8 to 2.. my two year old grandson is allergic to milk. The chef prepared separate meal for him 3 times a day for the 6 days we were there. nice beach, great yoga classes. Throughly enjoyed the meditation class.

My husband and I were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary at the resort. He had a freak accident and passed away while we were there. I found myself alone in Mexico and I don't speak Spanish. The staff at the hotel bent over backwards to help me through three difficult days until I was able to return to the states and be with my family.

We've been going to Akumal since 1991. It became a little run-down in the last few years, so we went other places. But we came back to Akumal and we were delighted. Great renovation. .

Well located, small but very comfortable resort. Beautiful beach with a chance to see some turtles if you like to snorkel. Very good food specially in the buffet restaurant. Staff super friendly and smiley. Drinks from good to very good depending who's your bartender. Incredible Wifi speed all over the resort. We will come back for sure.

Another great trip to ABBR. If not for some storm damage to our room it would have been a perfect 10! We will be back next year and the next! No need to look for something better. Thank You ABBR for another fantastic vacation.

What an incredible stay we had! From the location to the staff, the food, the room. I highly recommend the ABBWR!

would have given it a 5 star all around except we had a women come walking in our room at 2:30 AM !!! The deadbolt wasn't working and for whatever reason her key card did. We reported the issue at 7:30 AM and after several phone calls and 2 trips to the front desk..it was finally fixed at 9:30 PM. I felt guest security should have been a higher priority.

This is our fifth time at Akumal Beach Resort in 6 years (one year we did not go anywhere). We keep coming back as we love it there. They have totally remodeled and built some new parts to their resort in the last 3 years. The staff is wonderful, helpful, caring and friendly. The food is very good. The only complaint I would have is that not all the bartenders make their drinks the same, so you don't always get what you think you are supposed to get.

2nd stay this year and as usual I have been treated like family. The staff is second to none and the beach speaks for itself. Food and drink are good and Wilbert will keep you well hydrated.....

Everything was perfect about this hotel. I cannot find any faults. Everybody was so kind and it is the most beautiful location. I wish I could go back every month.

No words to describe how excellent was our stay!! Grest location, food, stanf, and best of all the beach!! All the rooms are oceanfront and everyone is conveniently located!! I hope to be back soon!!

I loved the old resort, I was not to thrilled with all of the changes at first but after a couple of hours I was sold on the changes.. Great same old staff..

Great vacation although the weather was terrible the first 3 days. The resort is beautiful, the food was excellent, the snorkeling was very good ( I'm sure it is amazing when storms have not clouded the water). My only complaint would be the shelters on the beach. Not nearly enough protection from the hot sun or as pretty as a palapa. Our Penthouse view was incredible although next time I might opt for a 2nd story room for the hot top on the balcony rather than the roof. I think we may have spent more time on the balcony. I have to say it is pretty cool taking a bath under the stars as the ocean roars below! The Staff was always very friendly and the service was fantastic. Special thank yous to Maria, Freddie at the Beach bar, Pedro at the Japanese restaurant and our favorite Server on the beach, sweet Marcia! We usually eat in the specialty restaurants because they are so much better than a buffet, but I must say the buffet was the best I have ever had at a resort and we have been to many. The Gourmet and Japanese restaurants were delicious, the Mexican was very good, but we did not care much for the Steak house. Seeing the baby turtles hatch and swimming with the giant turtles was as exciting as I hoped it would be as this is the main reason I booked this resort. We hope to return!

I've stayed here many times before but after the renovation this place is extraordinary the rooms are spacious and comfy, the maids do an excellent job keeping them clean. the food is good with plenty of variety the grounds and beach are amazing. the staff is what makes this resort my favorite friendly and smiling, a lot of the staff remember you by name and treat you like family not just their job.I would recommend this resort over and over again. ( not a party resort very quiet by midnight )

We just returned yesterday from a week at ABB&WR. The resort is older but has had a very nice remodel. The rooms are large and beds are very comfortable. The AC did not seem to cool well but the fan kept us at an ok temp most of the time. They did not have any drawers in the room and we like to unpack so our stuff was just layed out on the shelf in the closet. The hanging rod was also very high up and as I am only 5'2 it made it difficult for me to use. We liked the toilet and shower area fine. We were in room 4206 for the first few days and then they started working on the rooms above us. It was very loud and we could not use our room from 9-5 for the noise so we asked to move and they were very quick to accommodate us. The room they moved us to was 3019 and it was on the first floor. It smelled faintly like sewer or mold maybe. Not sure exactly but it kind of came and went. We lived with it. The AC in this room was very poor. We LOVED the a la carte restaurants and thought the buffet was very good. Bar service was excellent!!! We never had a problem getting a table at the a la cartes but we also eat early and would be there when they opened at 6. The service was wonderful also in all areas of the resort. The Buffet was VERY hot with only the ocean breeze for cooling. No fans, no AC!!! I think they really need to do something to change this as it was very uncomfortable!!! The main pool is just ok and they have several plunge pools in front of the buildings which are small. The beach was nice and had lots of turtle nests. We were very lucky to see two hatchings!!! The snorkeling was AWESOME and the main reason we chose this resort. Most of the days we were there the sea grass was minimal, but a storm moved in the last day and slammed the beach with it!!! The resort grounds staff worked nonstop hauling it away!! Overall we enjoyed our week very much and would return for a visit!!!

My boyfriend and I wanted a place where we could just relax and do nothing, and this was it. There was plenty to do had we wanted to, but our main activities were lying by the beach or by the pool, reading, snoozing and sipping on cool drinks. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. It's not a pretentious place, and it's not a party place, thank goodness. The staff are, without exception, genuinely warm, friendly, welcoming, and easy-going they are truly wonderful. We will go back for sure.

Nice resort. Was still a little noisy with the construction going on next door. Needed to wait for checkin. They also charge $10 per hour more if you want a later checkout. Really?

Staff was great, they were very welcoming and helpful specially Juan the information guy and Luis the bellboy. The food was great the hotel was nice and relaxing. The view was great from any floor at the hotel. Would definitely recomend a stay to anyone here. The location is great it is next to everything like the ruins, yal ku lagoon and many other attractions. There is alot to see and if you rent a car there are places close by where you can get a better price and you see the real mexico and not just the tourism side of it. Great overall experience very happy with our trip!

We absolutely loved this resort and beach. I took my mother for her 75th birthday... The staff were so gracious and attentive and the grounds/resort is lovely and well appointed. Several issues negate a 5 star review from us however, namely the very strong sewage odor which came and went in our room seemingly with increased periods of shower and bathroom use in the building (building 3 ground floor room 3009). I believe our room was close to the septic tank and it was very apparent throughout the day. I did mention it to the front desk so that room freshener or aroma therapy available for pillows could be applied but it was never addressed at all. We did not complain hugely and did not ask to be moved, as we spent very little time in it, but our next door neighbors must have since the room was vacated, stripped, bleached, and the doors left open for a day and a half. That room was empty for the entirety of our stay after that. I bought several scented candles which did the trick. Upon my return I will not stay in this section, though I did love the location, I simply will not deal with the aroma again. Other than that the room was just fine for us, simple, uncluttered, and user friendly. We never used the pools but many did and they appeared clean and pleasant enough. The ocean and sea life brought us here and though the seaweed issue persists it never kept us out of the ocean. The reef has abundant life, soft and hard corals, fish, squid, rays, eels, urchins, etc. The reef farthest out & just inside the break was the most brilliant and has the best clarity. Bit of a swim but no problem for confident swimmers. Bit choppy at times on the way out but smoothed out once you got out a bit. The magnificent turtles can be found to the north of the resort approx 50m from the shore and are abundant :) It's a little silty so it's a bit murky from time to time but oh so magical to spend time observing them from a respectable distance. I did not see a single person encroach, touch, or disturb them during my visit, happily. I probably would have had to educate them if I had. Lol. Found many daily and never went into the bouy area to do so. I will absolutely return BUT I fear that once the Secrets monstrosity just north of the resort opens it will be waaaay too many people and ruin it. It is directly on the area of the beach with the sea grasses the turtles feed on and I fear the beach, reef, and all the life it supports will be destroyed. I cannot understand how it was approved... Disgusting greed. It may well destroy everything and wipe out an age old year round feeding ground and hence, several struggling species of precious sea turtles along with it. I truly hope I am wrong. I saw so many people NOT using biodegradable sunblock though. Very disheartening. Either ignorance or apathy, but it will destroy the life here regardless. They also need to negate smoking on the beach PERIOD. So many butts thrown around on the beach by irresponsible smokers. Sorry to the responsible ones but the bad apples ruin it for all of you. Not to mention not everyone wants to breathe in second hand smoke. Designated smoking areas are a no brainier, especially at a wellness resort. Also need to stop using straws. Horrible for all wildlife but especially so for turtles. Food was good in the ala carte restaurants and we always found something tasty in the buffet. Great bar and restaurant service as far as our experience went. Just a few issues overall that need some attention. I look forward to returning but I am apprehensive due to the Secrets mess due to open in November and quite honestly so worried for the turtles and reef systems...

This place is absolutely phenomenal. If you enjoy snorkeling, the beach, ocean views, and unlimited food and drinks, book this resort. The property is the perfect size. Large enough to give you food options and offer amenities but small enough to where you can walk to the water within 30 seconds of your room. I mean, really, how does it get any better? We enjoyed the snorkeling (all kinds of sea life in front of building 1), relaxing in the hot tub while listening to the beach, eating at the Brazilian restaurant Rodizio (unlimited delicious meats), the short walk down the beach to Akumal (shopping, diving, fishing, etc.), the relaxed and spacious environment, and the wonderful staff. Seriously, if you don't like this place, you're the problem, not the resort. :)
