Hilton Reykjavik Nordica4.0 out of 5.0

This is a very nice but expensive hotel on the outskirts of Reykyavik. The restaurant Vox is also excellent but very expensive. We stayed on the top floor at the front with excellent sea views. We could not fault the food or the staff but expect to pay 20 quid for two glasses of wine etc. This is only in line with the generally very expensive location. You have been warned! So take plenty of dosh. But its worth it.
We were part of the Globus Group and we checked in a day earlier than our scheduled arrival to savour the flavors of Reykjavik and Iceland. The Hotel, though not really situated in the city centre is pretty nice and comfortable. Large swinging entrance door and a very spacious Lobby with ample seating is something I reallt appreciate in a Hotel. Check in was swift and uneventful and the Room fairly decent sized and comfortable. Being a Hilton Honours member, I requested them to allot me a room at the front with views of the waterfront but they had put us in the backside area which I think is reserved for tour groups and declined our request on the plea that the Hotel was fully booked, which perhaps it was. So otherwise comfortable room with not much views. However, since we had not planned to spend a lot of time in the rooms it did not matter much. Room was decent with all amenities and good sized bathroom with quality products. The Lobby is huge with lots of seating and a great place to spend your spare time people watching. Opposite the reception they have a take away kiosk where you can purchase sandwiches, quiches, burgers, coffee, soft drinks etc. Thoughtful idea as we found a lot of people who arrived early, waiting to check in at the designated check in times and also people who had late flights to catch and spending time in the lobby. The Lobby also has a quaint gift shop having some very unusual souvenirs and gift items which seemed to be fairly priced. Check it out. The Michellin star award winning Restaurant VOX is also situated in the Lobby. We did not have any meals there as we found it to be slightly overpriced( even by Icelandic standards, food is expensive in Iceland)but the Breakfast Buffet was excellent with a wide variety of quality food which we thoroughly enjoyed. For our meals we preferred the Aksur Restaurant which is around 50 metres to the right of the Hotel and we found this to be a great restaurant with fairly reasonable prices, patronised and popular with the locals ( which is always a good sign). The soup and salad is free with any main dish that you order which is amazing VFM. The desserts too were wonderful. Location wise the Hotel is not much but you you can walk to the beautiful waterfront and also some shops and supermarkets nearby. About 10-15 mins. walk . Considering everything the Hotel is a nice and comfortable base for exploring Iceland.
Delighted with my bright corner room, windows lining two sides and view of the mountains... The breakfast could be improved upon slightly compared to other hilton hotels I have stayed with. Beds & pillows as good as always...
We were charged a fee for arriving early (not earlier disclosed). We were put in the wrong type room initially. Our VOX restaurant experience was terrible. The internet did not work in the conference room. Overall, this was a terrible experience!
This was my first time to Iceland and while I had no major complaints about this hotel and the staff was very nice I would not stay here again. Location is not close to the main part of the city so it is an expensive cab ride to the center of the city. Rooms are small and non-descript. Breakfast buffet was very nice but service a little disinterested, Housekeeping was uneven and they never heard of the word turndown so don't ask. Views are not special. Gym looked nice enough and there is a spa.
The hotel was at a good location, staff was very friendly, room was large and had a nice view. The travel help was great, nice gift shop and very nice restaurant. For Iceland this si a great hotel . I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
We stayed here for 3 nights on a stopover in Iceland. The location is great for exploring the south and southwest Iceland. It is a nice easy walk to downtown. The breakfast in the morning is great and they have a to go breakfast if you have an early flight. The room was spacious and we enjoyed our stay here.
Landed in Reykjavik at 7am their time. Joined the rest of your tour group. Got to the hotel and they said that our rooms wouldn't be ready until 2pm. They gave us the options to take a taxi or walk to town. 20 min! They told us if we didn't want to do this we could sit in a well decorated back room and wait. Now that's 7 hrs. Staff seems annoyed that we are just laying around, but that's a long time to wait after a international flight. I'm traveling with seniors and the are tired. While we are sitting and sleeping in the lobby. We saw a whole group of young athletes go straight up to their rooms. I've never been so tired and disappointed in the start of a trip. I'll keep you informed. I hope it gets better.
From check-in to check-out, I had a great stay. The staff was great, helpful and attentive! Dining at the hotel was just incredible! The spa & gym facilities were excellent as well. The location is good for getting around by car, with fast access to highways to see all the wonders in and around Reykjavik. It's also a short ride to the city center. I'd stay again and definitely recommend!
Just a bit out of the heart of downtown, but worth the extra walk! This property is clean, quiet, with fantastic front desk staff, lovely sunrise/sunset views from floor to ceiling wall of windows, COMFORTABLE beds, excellent full breakfast, and free parking. Very easy on/off access to getting out of town, and if you don't rent a car, there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. VOX is a luxury Icelandic restaurant very popular with locals, too!
