The hotel is nice, but my impression is that it saw better times. However, there are some improvements like two restaurants (including a Japanese one that I did not try), gym (old equipment but fairly complete), swimming pool and nice meeting rooms. Lobby and other public areas are ok, but not impressive. The room I used was ok but the bathroom could use some upgrade. On the other hand the staff was very kind and willing to help guests whenever they could. That is certainly a plus for any hotel. Both the breakfast and lunch buffets were good. Overall view, it is a good hotel to stay for a business trip, but not necessarily the one I will choose to stay with the family.
I was pretty grumpy about having to be at the airport for a very early flight. It was tough getting up out of their super comfortable bed. Fortunately, they provided me with a precise wake-up call, and a cafe that opens at 4:00am. In their lobby, they also provide computers with access to the internet, along with a printer, which comes in very handy for printing out boarding passes. Upon returning a week later, they also provided us with an excellent suggestion for a local seafood restaurant. The only complaint I have is with the remote control for my t.v. It seemed a little bit glitchy (difficult to adjust the volume and turn the tv on/off), perhaps the batteries need to be changed?
When in Quito, stay at Hilton Colon. Excellent location within walking distance to many sightseeing musts. Great atmosphere, attention to detail decor. Fabulous food, friendly staff, excellent customer service.
We stayed there two nights, at the beginning and end of our Ecuador tour. The hotel was very nice, clean and was located within walking distance of a nice restaurant /bar area. The breakfast was delicious! There is a nice park across the street with artists displaying their work.
I've stayed there 4 times and each time I was not pleasant experience. All the rooms I had were very old, the water ran (and tasted) yellow, the breakfast was average and on top of this, the staff is not friendly at all except a few exceptions. It's also really really noisy if you face the street and if you couple this with the bathroom noises of other rooms and the curtains that do not close entirely, you're on for some amazing nights of sleep.
Great location for me, very helpful and friendly staff. Comfortable room, decent comp WiFi. 2nd time here, have stayed at other hotels in Quito but will always stay at the Hilton Colon in the future. Note this is a pet-friendly hotel and is right across the street from a large park.
In short our stay at the Hilton Colon was pleasant, the rooms were comfortable, the beds were nice, the room service was quite cheap and tasty food for the late night arrivals. I would say half the staff were very helpful and the other half not so much. This hotel is regularly used as the in between hotel for many g adventure tours and for that purpose it is a great hotel which accommodates for the early departures well, catering for super early breakfasts even. What downgraded our stay was the laundry service. Do not get laundry done here! We made the mistake of getting some laundry items done as we had just come back from various tours and the Hilton was our stop over spot between them. No one informed us about the laundry form or item list and when i called to enquire they sent a man straight up to collect our items. No forms signed, no indications that we had to tick items off a list. Nothing. We assumed it would be reasonably priced. Boy were we wrong! Not only did the bill for laundry come to just under 200 US, but they also lost items of ours and then expected us to just cop it on the chin. Our whole last day in Quito was spent arguing with staff about the bill, trying to get compensated for the lost items as well as clothing which came back with pilling and stain marks which they tried to blame on us when it was a brand new shirt worn once! Anyways the laundry bill was eventually wiped but it tainted our stay. As a stop over hotel, it was great.
Perfect location in Quito. Our room opened up to beautiful views of Quito, Room was spacious, amenities were standard Hilton, bed was comfortable and bathrooms were modern. highlight was the sumptuous Ecuadorian breakfast - do not miss that! Top it all, very sweet, friendly, helpful staff that spoke English- very much in line with Hilton brand reputation.
We stayed here as part of a Gate 1 tour, adding a couple of nights on our own at the end so we could explore Quito more thoroughly. This is a fairly upscale hotel, with all the amenitites that many travelers want. We found it somewhat lacking in charm, but the location makes up for some of that. It's nicely positioned between the old and new parts of Quito. It's also across from a park with a nice market for buying Ecuadoran crafts and there is a HUGE market just a few blocks away. We got a lot of help from the concierge for making our explorations. They were very helpful for finding things and telling us how to get around safely. The hotel cafe is fine, especially the breakfast that is included with the room. Since they have a lot of international travelers, the breakfast buffet makes all kinds of things available - including popcorn, which my husband took advantage of. You do sometimes have to ask for coffee to be brought to the table. The hotel guide indicated there was a fancier dining room, but we never saw it. Overall, this is a fine place to stay espeically if you want to explore both parts of Quito.
I stayed six nights at this hotel in early March. While the rooms were large and the breakfast good it wasn't a pleasant experience. The concierge was rude on more than one occasion, the barman tried (twice) to charge an extra $2 for a drink and I had to ask twice to have the shower fixed. They need to lift their game as far as guest relations go.......
