We were limited by our choice of hotels as we visited in December in high season. We were able to get a room for 4 at the Lodge. It is out of the way but not too much. Quepos and Manuel Antonio are a 15-20 m drive from the lodge. The room was very large but the bathroom was cramped and both were outdated. Each could use updates in terms of linens, wall color and furniture, The lighting was also very dim. However, the room was very clean and we did not lack in terms of hospitality and friendly advice. The wifi is excellent! The owner Marlenee, manages with an assortment of people who speak English. Andrea, who works from breakfast time until evening is invaluable to running the place. She does everything right from checking guests in to taking care of all their needs. She also offers massages on site for a very reasonable rate. We did not do the kayak tour but their on site guide Maurioleo is excellent as a park guide and kayak tours. I would highly recommend one or both his tours. Breakfast is the standard costa rican fare. There is a recreation room which we used everyday. A great benefit if you don't want to venture out in the evening and need something to do. We had a great experience. It wasn't luxurious but given our budget and availability of rooms, we were very happy.

Marin is the amazing wonderful woman running this establishment. Facilities essentially set up for large groups but accommodations good for couples as well. Rooms are spotless clean and back up to the bayous for kayak adventures. Pool is small but serviceable. We were warmly invited in for breakfast at a long common table to join others. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Ended up staying a second night. Location is a kilometer or so off the highway and about 15 minutes north of Quepos. A good alternative to high priced Manuel Antonio.

Our stay at the Kayak Lodge was very enjoyable. The owners were friendly and caring. She gave us 4 large avocados from her tree, which we promptly devoured with lunch. They were delicious. Our room was the large family suite which provided wonderful views of the mangroves and plenty to iguana experiences. Would stay again.

I actually stayed here a few years back (2010) but I've never forgotten it as it was an amazing place to stay. The owners Marleen and Bernard couldn't have been nicer to me. I was travelling alone and they made me feel so welcome and at home. Marleen took me out on a kayak tour which I loved even though it was hard work. We made our way through the river, past lots of little crabs, snakes and monkeys, all the way out to the Pacific Ocean. On the way we stopped off at a little island where only a few single men stayed in makeshift type homes. I stayed in the huge apartment next to the river which had picture windows overlooking the mangrove forest. The monkeys would come flying through the tree's over the river and climb all over the roof. Iguana's would be outside my door in the morning. I did try to post a review at the time but for one reason or the other it didn't work. I would love to go back one day as it was definitely an experience I would love to repeat.

We enjoyed the Kayak Lodge so much that we extended our stay an extra 2 nights and the location was close to Quepos & Manuel Antonio. The owner, Marleen and her niece Fernanda were very attentive to our needs and accommodating. Marleen suggested that we take the Kayak mangrove tour and we were very glad we did. A 5 minute walk with your guide gets you to the kayaks and the start of the tour. We would highly recommend the lodge to anyone who wants a relaxing environment and beautiful gardens. This p,ace is unique and has a shared cooking kitchen for the guests and breakfast is included in the price.

Two days is just too short here. Room large clean and comfortable. Breakfast served from 7. Staff all helpful and very friendly. Loved the kayak adventure into the Mangroves just ask reception, very knowledgeable guide. If you go for a room by the water (biggest and best room) you will see white face monkeys inspecting you in the morning. Safe parking on site. If visiting weekends only, there is a local taverna 150m in the palm forest great beer and food.

this hotel is back behind the palm farms and abuts the mangrove forest. Although it's about 30 minutes from Manual Antonio- its quiet and away from the chaotic crowds on the hill. The owner of the hotel was extremely gracious and we felt like family immediately. We didn't explore the mangrove, having explored one elsewhere on our trip but it looked awesome. A true Costa Rica experience!

First of all, everything worked spectacularly well there to the point that I feel the need to finish my review even almost a year after my visit. The place had a very peaceful, laid-back vibe. It's a gem for a technology fan, too, as the owner is very tech-savvy; he designed a system that switched off air-conditioning when the door from the room opened. Kayak trips are highly recommeded and fun. All other sights in the area are just a short driving distance away. If I ever go to Costa Rica again, I will want to return to this place.

On our trip to Manuel Antonio, my family stayed at this hotel because we love to kayak. This turned out to be an excellent choice. Manuel Antonio is beautiful, but even in the off season, it can be crowded. This hotel, is about 30 minutes from the park, located in a quiet rural region, at the edge of the mangrove forest. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, and a kayak trip into the forest - which started at the hotel - was one of the highlights of our trip to the region. The rooms were cleaned, there was a beautiful community room to play pool and fussball when it rained, and the owners very helpful and friendly. And kayaks!

The owners of this place also run it and are the most kind and interesting people we met in Costa Rica. They have a quaint little lodge situated in the Mangrove swamps so if you'd like you can go on a kayak trip (book it in advance as they fill up a week ahead of time) with a guide that speaks French, English, and Spanish and is a teacher from Canada. That guide is only there in the summer however. We rented a car to get to this hotel but you could have a taxi drop you off for a lesser fee (car rentals are extremely expensive in Costa Rica $1,000/week). The location is close enough to drive to numerous beaches and the Manuel Antonio park. This hotel is also quite secure with a huge gate the owner closes at night. I even went running from this location, alone, and even though some stray dogs might stare at you, it's safe enough.
