My husband and I stayed at this sweet hotel with our two sons, ages 7 and 9, in the off season. It's a simple place: no tv, no phone, lots of steps to get to the rooms. But the staff bent over backward to be kind to us - from making great recommendations for what to do in town, to packing us food to take with us on our adventures, to rushing our laundry when we needed it fast. The bar/restaurant is great, the views are breathtaking (pic below was from our deck) and we spent several lovely afternoons at the pool. When I remember Costa Rica, some of my nicest memories will live here.
We stayed for two nights. Our room had a great view and we were comfortable. The food in the hotel restaurant was great (breakfast and dinner). The hotel pool leaves a lot to be desired, as does the overall customer service at the hotel. The worst part of the stay was the uphill "hike" to the nearest bus stop to go down to the beach.
Nice Pool & Restaurant. Saw Scarlet macaws fly overhead. Kept clean, though probably could do with some minor updates. Owner was nice, and a nice retreat on the road between Quepos & Manuel Antonio. We stayed in the tree house room which felt like we were in a boat in the trees.
After living in Manual Antonio Costa Rica for many years my friend suggested pizza at La Colina. I didn't realize the hotel had an attached bar with a restaurant. I ask to build a specialize pizza. Veggies to include jalapeño, zucchini, black olives, fresh cheese and double the sauce. Bamb!! Perfection!! Many thanks for the professional service and the quality fresh ingredients. Best pizza in the area. 👍
We loved our stay at Hotel la Colina and would highly recommend this comfortable and unique hotel! Our room was really cool, decor was thoughtful, definitely had a personal touch. The restaurant has great food, especially the breakfast which is real food not the often skimpy milk and cereal you get in the U.S. But most impressive was the staff who were extremely helpful at every turn from making us a last minute dinner at closing time, helping us book a tour, ordering us food for delivery, and working to find us a good deal on transportation back to San Jose. Can not say enough good things!
My boyfriend and I had a great time here - Mike is great! Whole staff is very accommodating - willing to do anything to make your stay great! Nice location to the beach and other activities. I can't say enough great things. Clean, friendly staff, really great to stay. Mike gave us lots of tips to make the most of our trip on a budget and we wish we could've stayed longer. Highly recommended and reasonably priced!
Great location close to the national park, incredible views, abundant wildlife, tasty food and a friendly staff. Mike, Natasha and the entire staff were pleasant and helpful during our stay. Rooms are exactly as described - if you require TV, high speed internet and entertainment this may not be the place for you. If you want to relax, eat some great gallo pinto and wood fired pizzas, and enjoy the the beauty of the Costa Rican hillside, we highly recommend staying at La Colina. Twenty years of experience here and no disappointments yet.
The hotel is nice, especially the oceanview rooms gives you great view to the Ocean. The rooms need some uplifting, but they are spacy. The only problem is the distance to the beach and the busy street with a lot of noise.
I stayed at this hotel 2 nights from Feb 3rd to Feb 5th , the second night I arrived from the beach around 7:00 pm, the parking lot was full, I tried to park in an small place but the Owner/Manager this guy called Mike did not allowed me to park inside stating that I will block the exit, so he asked me to park in the outside of the hotel there is a parking space for about 4 cars, so that's what I did, when I went back to my car around 9:30 pm I was planning to go have dinner with my girlfriend, I found that the right front window of my car was broken and a pair of new shoes was taken. the cost for the damage on my car is $204 (113,000 colones) and that is what asked Mike to reimburse me, He offered me only $100 and one free night at the hotel, of course after the bad time I spend there I am not planning to return, I would not feel secure there so I did not accept the offer, and kindly asked him again only for the $204 no more no less, I sent the documents to him with the official quote from the car workshop so he can trust I was not asking for more but he has been unresponsive after almost 2 weeks. I understand that like he said the day of the incident "He will not take responsability". I have all the documentation to prove this, I have the pictures of my car with the broken window, the Police (OIJ) Report, the Ins Report and also the Quote from the Car workshop. Changing the topic, the room had a bad smell when I first got in, the bed was in really bad conditions and the noise was really high, you can listen everything from the room on the second floor of the room #3, we could not sleep after 6:00 am, the breakfast was also really limited. I hope this review can help other travelers to avoid having a bad time.
We liked this place. Maybe some of my favorite memory from this visit. The morning squirrel monkey visits and hanging out with the owner at the bar. The rooms were clean and comfortable. No TV no problem. Our wifi signal was strong and our link to the outside world.HA Ha Breakfast at the bar/pool area was good. The owner and his family were super helpful suggesting thing to see and do. He was more than cool while tending the bar. He sold me cokes and let me use my own rum! Yep there are steps to get up to the ocean view rooms were we stayed. From there we watched Amazon parrots,Scarlet Macaws, parakeets hawks, tanager and lots of other birds from our wrap around balcony. If you are looking for a luxury hotel this probably isn't what you want. If you have realistic expectation and are looking for some value this is the place.
