I had carefully reviewed several 5-star hotels before deciding to book Shana by the Beach Manuel Antonio. Unfortunately, this was a major disappointment.
Upon arrival, I was informed by the front desk that there was daily construction happening every morning. This was never disclosed online at the time of booking. When I raised this issue, the staff told me they had already informed Expedia to post a notice. That’s not the customer’s responsibility — it’s the hotel’s duty to ensure transparency. Despite acknowledging the problem, no compensation or meaningful solution was offered.
The room itself was far from what one would expect from a 5-star property. The faucet was loose and wobbly, the room had a dense, unpleasant smell, and the overall condition felt outdated and poorly maintained. It was clear that the property has not been properly cleaned or refreshed for some time.
Between the constant noise, lack of disclosure, and substandard room quality, I would honestly rate this hotel as a 3-star at best. I would not recommend this place to anyone expecting a true 5-star resort experience.
