The service at Matakauri could not be better. The views are absolutely stunning and our room was just perfect. Then comes the food.... Meticulous presentation, new menu every night, fresh flavours...just perfect! I will be back without any doubt!
I can not praise the team at Matakauri enough! Our whole experience from start to finish was amazing. Nothing that we asked for was ever too much. The food was just fantastic also. Yes this is a luxury product & has the price of a luxury product, but the value you receive is above & beyond all expectations. Would highly recommend.
From the scenery to the Lodge to the service, everything was "wow". It really is stunning. The rooms are beautiful and the whole package is worth what you pay for compared to other so called "luxury/boutique" places I've stayed at. I also love a brownie/cookie or two with my cuppa and it was nice to see the brownies etc in the room were complementary, no price tag hanging from the jar. Nothing worse then dropping more then $1,000 per night for a room and you have to pay extra for that "one small" bottle of water in the fridge or a cookie...like seriously. Anyway, Matakauri Lodge gets a thumbs up from me.
Amazing hospitality, amazing backdrop, amazing room, food, expensive though a truly unforgettable experience ! If you live life in moderation and like to splurge every now and then, this will be one which you will not regret. Queenstown is amazing, flying into a quaint town nestled among some beautiful mountain ranges - the area has it all for young, family orientated, or elderly . The Matakauri experience is the cherry on top. If you want to plan a simple treat for your self and partner, Matakauri will have you smiling ear to ear. Remarkable service, and attention to detail.
How do we thank you, Emanuel, Joanne, Jonathan and team? Our wedding and stay at the Owner's Cottage surpassed our very high expectations. You guys are the dream team and the Owner's Cottage (more a substantial home) is absolutely unmatched in quality and beauty right down to the Toss Wollaston painting (one of our favourite NZ contemporary artists). I tried to make a mental note of every detail that surprised us and lost count lol: so many little but meaningful and thoughtful, and big additions. As one of our very well travelled guests said, "We will be talking about this in 20 years! Magical!" The food was exceptional: well balanced and creative - congrats, Jono! Anne-Charlotte is a knock-out sommelier and waitress, and Olivia has such grace. Particular thanks to Emanuel, you run a great ship! Thank you for taking such great care of us all. We'll be back with one of the couples from LA to celebrate our first anniversary next year.
Amazing accommodation in a piece of New Zealand paradise. Wonderful comfortable accommodation with glorious views and amazing service. Very private and relaxing with superb service, didn't want to leave
Stayed three nights in a suite room. The views were spectacular and the food and quality of the lodge was so beautiful. We truely relaxed over the three nights and it was a great place to unwind after spending time doing activities during the day. We did the tasting menu each night which was amazing and a great chance to try different things every night.
My wife and I stayed in the Lodge for 5 nights. These Lodges normally have great service, excellent food and luxury accommodation laid out in stunning scenery. Matakauri ticks all those boxes without doubt. I believe the big point of difference is the flexibility of Matakauri with regard to their food. We were told on arrival that they change their menus daily and they do. Also if we did not like something to let them know. As an example my wife does not like raw fish and on our last night, on a canapé, the Chef changed out my wife's raw fish before it was served. We were also told to request anything else not on the menu and I did so by requesting European fish cakes which were duly delivered and were excellent. Matakauri has an excellent wine list of local and other wines. They also respond well when circumstances change. If your budget allows select the bigger Deluxe rooms which are more spacious and are well appointed.
Our 4 night stay at Matakauri was nothing but magical and wonderful. The staff there took care of us to the smallest details. For instant, on our first day of arrival I ordered a soy latte, and later at night I found a carton of soy milk sitting in my room's fridge, which was not there at first. Food was exceptional and consistently delivered every time. I love the fact that their menu is daily changed. The chef even offered to cook us dishes we like, which might not be on the menu. The room and view from our suite were flawless. The lodge's location is about 12-15 minutes drive from Queenstown's centre, which to us is not far at all but it does separate the lodge from the busy and bustling scene so you can truly relax.
Simply no words to properly describe the feeling and the beauty of Matakauri Lodge. The vistas from the rooms, the common room/lounge, the food, the ambience, the setting - all of it - just amazing. Truly a gem in the Queenstown area. Sitting on a hill overlooking the majestic mountains and lake, the Matakauri is truly breathtaking. Rarely can one find such a stunning setting. The decor, staff - every element was just perfection!
