Please do yourself a favor and do not spend your hard earned money on this hotel. The pictures advertised are from several years ago and are not a real reflection of the resort. There is no real leadership at the front desk or in the several restaurants, leading to a disappointing experience across the board. The bartenders at the main pool bar are not friendly and seem to be in a bad mood most of the time. The pools are not refreshing (water is too warm) and have a build up of green nasty foam at different skimmer areas. The food variation at the main buffet is extremely limited. By the 3rd day I didn’t even want to eat there anymore. The rooms are dated and in need of big upgrades. For example last day of my stay the A/C main unit for the entire building broke down, leading to over 50 guests having to me moved to a sister hotel (my family included).

This resort is not what is advertised in pictures. Poor customer service. Poor management.

The staff was very rough. The worst food ever I try. They have 4 or 5 restaurants and the schedule was very ridiculous, they were closed when you most needed. The air conditioning never work, the temperature never went down more than 23•C, I told them to verify and2 days I didn’t have fresh water, went out (morning and afternoon).

The property in general is nice, staff for the most part friendly. The woman at the towel dispensary was rude to my wife. The food was ok at the regular buffets, but we never could try their better restaurants. We could never get a reservation, because the people responsible for reservations were either not there or they were full (at 8:30 in the morning!) Bartenders were great, so hanging out at the pool bar was nice. Our first room had a broken ac which they did not fix, so they moved us to a nicer room. That's ok but on the first night? They should know the fitness of a room before the guest arrives. All in all, I would give it an ok...

We stayed at the Catalonia Resort and Spa for 8 nights. Make sure to get a "Privileged" or "Exclusive" room. It comes with extra perks like nicer room/location and free hydrotherapy session at the spa. It's impossibe to find a list of perks though. Which was one challenge we had- information. There's not extension list in the room or a book of guest services offered. And nothing is available on the official website. They had qr codes everywhere, but those were the only place to find that info. So we wandered around lost a bit. Overall it was a great experience. The food was phenomenal. Everything fresh, and delicious. Constantly changing menu too. Just the diet change alone made my body feel great. We booked snorkeling tours with the Prodive group onsite and had a great time. Other then that we stayed in the resort and walked the area around the resort. There's not much outside of the resort. There's a small marina with delicious cafes and convenience shops. There was a pretty diverse mix of guests. Only a handful of Americans that I could tell. By and large guests seemed to be Polish, or local/regional. Our biggest challenge was tipping, the only reason you need cash. ATM cost $5 per transaction on top of conversion fee. But give 500's. Which a tip is like 20. So we had no way to break these big bills. And you're expected to tip for everything, even the lab techs that came to our room for aCOVID test set out a a tip jar. Ended up tipping just a few really well.

Staff is very friendly however everyone gives misinformation constantly. Nobody is on the same page

This is a smaller property. The price was very reasonable. You could upgrade which allowed you to go into nicer restaurants and allowed you access to a more desirable beach. Well worth upgrading. Loved the spa. The staff was wonderful and there for your every needs. Would definitely return

Biggest disappointment is the food. Buffet food was not good. Paid for upgrade which includes room service. Food comes to room cold. You have to order breakfast the day before and let them know what time to bring it, breakfast came 40 minutes late and was cold. I wasn’t told by staff that upgraded/privileged customers had access to other resort restaurants and there was a calendar; that would have been nice to know when checking in; I heard about this from another customer towards the end of my trip. I was told by staff since I was staying for 6 nights, I can choose to reserve dinner at the restaurants for 3 nights and use the buffet for the other 3 nights. Resort is in a nice location and walkable distance to the marina with plenty of good restaurants to choose from. Room was nice and clean.

Besides having no hot water 1 of 5 nights, and the entire restaurant for reservations you know the fancier restaurant not the Buffet being booked besides those two things everything was great. The staff when they say they’re going to do something they actually do it they go out of their way to make sure you are good and you are clear on what’s going on.

Loved our stay at the cat! We took our bubble of people and were pleased to have plenty of room and caring staff .

I enjoyed the venue however, due to COVID only hal the amenities were available. So I would honestly have to go and experience the resort during jon COVID time to be able to really get a feel. Food was horrible

Terribly overcrowded. Always loud. Not family friendly. Too many adult situations and language. The staff go above and beyond but nothing can make up for the negative experience.

We were so thrilled to be complimentary upgraded to Privilege which we fully enjoyed! (and we also think may be worth the extra price in the future - so in making a good impression they have succeeded!) Staff overall are fantastic and want to do anything to make you happy. I love the Catalonia and this is our 2nd time at this resort. Some things have changed. I don't like how you have to book your restaurants. I felt like between booking restaurants, asking simple questions, and getting our cards to work again it took way too much time in line. We are supposed to be in the sun!!! And here I am waiting at least 30 minutes to book a restaurant. Water was too cold and I HATE how the pools are NOT heated! That will make a drastic difference in my decision in coming back here again unfortunately and it is such a simple thing. Waiters and waitresses were a pleasure. Super nice and helpful. Overall I had great experiences with the staff. There was a very rude comment made by an employee in the towel / scuba hut and I reported it to hotel staff. I hope they dealt with it accordingly but you never know. There really is no room for that sort of behavior when everyone is there to have fun and take a break from the stress of day to day life. Really put a damper on the rest of our stay. Massage was not worth the price, however the massage we had the 1st time at the Catalonia was amazing so I am not sure what went wrong this time. I would say for the price, try it out!

It was clean and well laid out Buffets were well staffed

Dear guest, on behalf of the entire Catalonia Riviera Maya team I would like to express a sincere apology, we really regret not having met expectations. Please be assured that this result is not a common occurrence and we have now begun to work on the areas of opportunity that have been identified. Thank you very much for the opportunity, and we hope that the next experience in Mexico will be more enjoyable. Best regards.
