Owner of property was very rude. I have given him a fair amount of business but he treated me with such disdain. I am a New Paltz resident, and it seems he is more interested in catering to out of towners in higher income brackets than a local who needs a place to stay every once in awhile. When it was suggested that I stay elsewhere it was recommended that for a similar price I could stay at the 87 motel, a buisness that not only has been closed for years, has actually been completely demolished. She got that idea from a list of other hotels in the area that is kept behind the check in area. Maybe the list could use an update. Just a thought.

Nice kitchen area, quiet for the most part, and the staff was friendly.

This hostel is absolutely superb, the staff are friendly, helpful, full of local knowledge and go the extra mile. The common area facilities are cleaned daily, rooms are cute, air conditioned, lockers in the dorm room, free wireless internet throughout the building with some desktop computers hard wired to the internet. The hostel is closed off every day between 10am and 2pm if you stay in the dorm for cleaning but the staff were very flexible on that rule, just inform them first if you need to get some stuff done, but anyway at that time you should be exploring the wonderful Town of New Paltz. If you stay in a private room you can come and go as you please. It's location is in the heart of New Paltz and it's an easy walk to get anywhere its literally on Main Street, right next door to the Trailways bus station At all times the doors are locked at both entrances , it just gives any traveller the feeling of more security, I only had to wait a couple of seconds for the door to be buzzed in. I stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm room then moved to private room with a shared bathroom for ten dollars more and had no complaints whatsoever. I don't think there was one day when this place wasn't fully booked – so book early.

Reception is only staffed from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM. There are no keys given out to guests and the doors are always locked. So it is theoretically impossible to go out in the morning and come back into the hostel until 2:00 PM. Very inconvenient

Very easy check-in, staff is great. Room clean and the kitchen had everything you need.
