Arrived by train into Portsmouth Harbour station and it was only a 5 minute walk to the hotel which as previously mentioned, the entrance was difficult to find. Perfect location for the shops, ferry and historic Portsmouth. Receptionist was welcoming. TV didn’t work in my room but a new remote from reception cured the problem. Room was right temperature, clean and with a very comfortable bed. Good shower and nice fluffy, white towels. After a good night’s sleep a very nice breakfast was provided, which was more than adequate for this class of hotel. I would stay here again if in the area.
The entrance to the hotel is quite hidden , we drove passed once and then had to make quite a long way back as there are lots of roadworks around the area. Breakfast was full of guests and the food and cutlery were not up to speed. Room was ok, lighting was quite awful inside the room. Room looked a bit dated , they can do with upgrading the interior of the room and shower/toilet. Old marks in shower and toilet kind of put you off when you stay in a hotel. Location is great which is just next to all the outlets and walking distance to the spinnaker tower! We encountered a few times where there were smell of weed in the corridors and in the lifts. We were travelling with an infant this time and with the above comments we won’t be coming back again!
Just back from a night's stay here. The hotel is in a fantastic location, great shops, pubs and restaurants on the doorstep, and the historic docks and Spinnaker tower a very short walk away. There is a secure underground car park, free to hotel guests for the first 24 hours then £2 a day. Rooms were very clean and comfortable although a little dated and could just do with a bit of a modernising refresh. Water pressure was a bit variable. We were pleasantly surprised by the continental breakfast included in the price, from the description we expected just a few pastries and muffins but there were also sausages, bacon, beans, cereals, toast, fruit, porridge and yogurts to choose from. Staff on the front desk were cheerful, welcoming and very helpful (particularly Sophie who was the lady we saw on arrival in the evening and again in the morning) and also responded really quickly to a query I had emailed before arrival. Would stay here again as the location is exceptionally good and the hotel was so friendly and professional.
We stayed at this property over Christmas from our arrival all the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the property was clean warm and inviting especially to those who are Disabled the room was wonderful with views over the quay, Would highly recommended especially as we shopped until we dropped, But Luke reception staff came to our rescue he could not help enough loading the car .. a very special guy with staff so helpful , .. we can know that we shall be returning , also location is fantastic, thank you all you made our Christmas Special Thank you xx
Awful hotel, got no sleep whatsoever - mattress was old it sank in the middle so myself and partner constantly found ourselves rolling into the middle of the bed - the breakfast was a completely shambles - no egg or bacon - then no beans or toast - no cutlery, no plates - it was one problem after another, not particularly busy either so would hate to see them under pressure! Will be returning to Gunwharf as loved the area - but will be finding alternative Accomodation! Aired my concerns on check out - young lad just said “oh sorry” seemed largely uninterested in my complaint!
Stayed here over the Christmas period on work, the staff are really helpfull, the location for shopping and travel from the Isle of Wight and Cruises is brilliant. The hotel itself is tierd and the room had the smell of a heavy night before still lingering...the heating was not good, had to ask for another duvet, the lift was temperamental and there is no way this hotel has the price or star rating...express in...and out is my advice.. There are discounts to local restaurants if you show your holiday Inn card....however the restaurants at the Quays your paying a premium....
Had this hotel booked by a colleague and hasn't done any research. When told where I'd be staying just thought it would be an automated and basic hotel. How wrong I was! On arriving at Gunwharf Quays I was directed to the hotel section of the modern underground parking (free of charge). On entering the hotel I was met by 2 very friendly receptionists and a clean modern looking hotel. The room was spotless and well appointed with all amenities you would expect in a "normal" hotel. That's exactly how is describe this hotel; normal and faultless. A bonus to being a guest at the Holiday Inn Express is your room card entitles you to 20% discount at most of the dozens of restaurants around Gunwharf. The breakfast (self service full English and continental) was spot on. 10/10. Will definately be back!
Very basic hotel. Clean enough room but awful uncomfortable bed and rubbish duvet was freezing in mid dec! Breakfast was quite good considering rate we paid. Basic cooked brekki, help yourself, cereals, croissants and muffins. And a hot drink machine. No complaints on brekki. Great location for a trip to the outlet. We were able to shop then take bags to room for a rest then off for more shopping. Plenty of eating places at the outlet, but only 2 small coffee shops. Parking is in the main gunwharf keys car park. Short walk to hotel. The hotel validate your ticket which gives you 24 hours free parking then £2 a day.
Clean tidy and everything you need for a nights stay over. Breakfast was ok, not piping hot and no choice of eggs (just scrambled). Great place to be if your shopping or partying at Gunwharf/Portsmouth ☺️
We booked for overnight so we could meet our family from the Isle of Wight. Very convenient for shops restaurants etc and cheap parking. We cannot praise staff enough, it was not their fault we had an uncomfortable night. Our room was so cold despite member of staff trying to rectify the problem with the heating. The bed was hard and duvet stiff and heavy. All very clean and good shower. Toilet heavily stained. Room lacking atmosphere. No restaurant or room service but tea and coffee provided. The reception area a mix of furniture reminded me of a youth hostel. Breakfast good, all bread, croissants and pastries very fresh. Thank you to staff for help with parking and understanding our problems but we will not be back again!
