I’ve used this hotel on a number of occasions down route in Porto. The hotel is within walking distance to the centre of Porto. I’ve always had very friendly service from reception and the bar, which is well stocked! I’ve eaten here a handful of times and the food has been good. Room clean (apart from the windows this time) and quiet. I would take family here for a weekend away
Pleasant and helpful reception people! Fast service even if there were many guests checking out. Newly renovated rooms. Plenty of parking area nearby the hotel. If you want to park in the hotel parking there is a fee and it is expensive. I don’t suggest though to tourists because it is a bit far from the main touristic areas. Not walking distance unfortunately especially during the winter. Other restaurants available within the neighborhood. Try Meia Banana. Inexpensive and delicious which we discovered by foot.
Holiday Inn Porto Gaia is located in Gaia, and it is a very good option in Porto Area. The hotel is very good, with all the amenities needed for a good stay. Rooms are very spacious with nice views over Porto and Douro river. Staff has been very friendly. To come back.
You would think it's a 5 star hotel the way you are looked after and the way the hotel is kept! Great stay, staff are super friendly and helpful with site seeing, food was great and the decor is lovely
Everything was great. Welcom drink at reception. They upgrade my room, Comfortable bed, great restaurant and bar and rate are very correct. Easy acess to city. Nice staff. I defeintly will back there.
Was here as part of the EUROBOWL 2017 event, in which over 250 competitors were in attendance. Excellent service from the reception and conference staff. Hotel has ample bar space, and lobby space for its needs. Well appointed rooms, wonderful city views and great showers with lots of hot water.
This hotel is comfortable and accommodating, but a bit out of the way of the main downtown areas of Porto. It was close enough to walk down to the waterfront (about a 45 minute walk) or take the train (about a 10 minute walk from the hotel) to the area near the main bridge, Dom Luís I Bridge. Gaia is a quiet neighborhood and it can be hard to find places to eat (especially with vegetarian options), although there is an excellent Italian restaurant, Dom Gancho, in the neighborhood below the hotel. The elevators are excruciatingly slow. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
When you have kids and need room for four, hotels often either give you a double bedroom with a couple couches, where you can barely move, or insist on you having a second room, which would be ok if they were already old enough to stay all by themselves. At this Hotel we were given a two floor room with a living room in the ground floor and two bedrooms in the upper room at a good value for money. Location is OK, it's essentially a business hotel. Staff is very kind and attentive; Breakfast is also very good. Surely to consider whenever coming back to Porto.
I stayed here before and revisited to see some pilgrims I met from a caminho. Check in was a very busy affair so much so I gave up and went to the bar. Here's an idea how about bar staff checking you in over a drink? So half an hour later I checked in, staff were professional and recognised IHG Status so the room was pleasant had everything a travelling chap needed. Clean and comfortable and a good bathroom. So that's my travel rules done. I had dinner in the city so cannot comment on the food. The bar staff were a credit and it had a good vibe. 2nd stay and won't be the last, it's a good location for visiting the port houses however about half an hour in a taxi to the central area when a busy Saturday night. Recommended
Gaia is not exactly Porto. Infact it is on the opposite side of the river. Checking in at the Holiday Inn was swift and pleasantly not too much formal. Nice lobby surrounded by restaurant and central bar. Rooms are comfortable and clean despite furniture and decor starts looking a bit dated. No shower in bathroom but screened bath. Water is a bit low pressure and hot water takes ages to come. Also not perfectly clear but has a bit of a murky brownish tint. Lifts are slow and inadequate to cope with peak demand. Breakfast needs some improvement too. All in all a positive experience and definately worth considering.
