When you have kids and need room for four, hotels often either give you a double bedroom with a couple couches, where you can barely move, or insist on you having a second room, which would be ok if they were already old enough to stay all by themselves. At this Hotel we were given a two floor room with a living room in the ground floor and two bedrooms in the upper room at a good value for money. Location is OK, it's essentially a business hotel. Staff is very kind and attentive; Breakfast is also very good. Surely to consider whenever coming back to Porto.
I stayed here before and revisited to see some pilgrims I met from a caminho. Check in was a very busy affair so much so I gave up and went to the bar. Here's an idea how about bar staff checking you in over a drink? So half an hour later I checked in, staff were professional and recognised IHG Status so the room was pleasant had everything a travelling chap needed. Clean and comfortable and a good bathroom. So that's my travel rules done. I had dinner in the city so cannot comment on the food. The bar staff were a credit and it had a good vibe. 2nd stay and won't be the last, it's a good location for visiting the port houses however about half an hour in a taxi to the central area when a busy Saturday night. Gaia is not exactly Porto. Infact it is on the opposite side of the river. Checking in at the Holiday Inn was swift and pleasantly not too much formal. Nice lobby surrounded by restaurant and central bar. Rooms are comfortable and clean despite furniture and decor starts looking a bit dated. No shower in bathroom but screened bath. Water is a bit low pressure and hot water takes ages to come. Also not perfectly clear but has a bit of a murky brownish tint. Lifts are slow and inadequate to cope with peak demand. Breakfast needs some improvement too. All in all a positive experience and definately worth considering.
Spent two nights here that were also my last nights in Portugal. My room had a view of the city of Porto and the Sunset. So beautiful. It is located near a walkable-distance metro station. Clean room, nice breakfast, beautiful people, real 4-star!
About 30 mins to/from the airport. Gaia is the opposite side of the river to Porto. The area surrounding the hotel is not exactly salubrious but safe. The hotel is spacious and clean. The bar and food are good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The gum on the top floor has a nice view and is like many hotel gyms a converted room but with enough to work with. If you run the head down hill to the river and along it. You can go for miles as you hit the coast after 3. Beware the uphill return though 😅. If you have not ever tried the Franzanzinger (phonetically spelt) it is a porto speciality and should be tried once. Nice restaurants and bars along the river but take a cab.
This hotel is very clean, good price, friendly and helpful staff throughout! not to far from the river water front either. There are coffee shops and such close by.. lots in walking distance. Parking. If we come to Porto again we will definitely be staying here
From arrival to departure the service was excellent - helpful, friendly and courteous at all times. The room was superb with fully functioning air conditioning and an extremely comfortable bed. Bathroom facilities were good and spotless. Restaurant food was very nice and service excellent. Did not use the guest facilities as I was on a business trip - but a pleasure never the less.
I think that if the hotel staff is a smile face, helpability and cleanliness of the hotel is good. I think it would be better if the elevators are renewed. A hotel that can stay with general lines, see you later by.
Great quality of the bedrooms, wc and breakfast with a good variety and quality. The only down point was the entrance bar that was to much expensive and a good part of the time didn't had anyone there to serve us, specially during the breakfast. Eventually was a lack of personal at the time.
Stayed for 5 days with my wife and have little to fault with the hotel. It is about 10 miniutes walk from the nearest metro station and main highstreet (which has a large supermarket and depatment store), a 30 minute walk to the river/north bank, and only 5 minutes from the local "highstreet" (which has a number of smaller general shops and cafes etc). Hotel room was well appointed and when we decided to get a room service meal it was reasonably priced and with good portion size. Only downside was in accessing the shower which was a little awkward and may present a difficulty to anyone with mobility issues. Generally quiet both inside and outside the hotel. Staff very helpful and personable. We would stay here again.
