A perfect position with the driveway directly off the main road, but far enough back so that the road was not visible and there was no traffic noise. Lovely rooms in beautiful grounds, including paddocks with a small number of sheep and cattle. Jenny, our very friendly hostess, was there to greet us with tea and biscuits. Everything we needed was explained to us, and dinner in a local pub booked for us. As it was a pleasant afternoon, she suggested that we use their garden swimming pool, which was great. In the morning, a delicious breakfast was cooked off fresh, and John and Jenny made it into a very happy and social occasion with the other guests. Perfect position for a gentle 30 minute drive to the Waitomo Caves. Could not have been better.

Our hosts John and Jenny were very hospitable and informative. They gave us ideas of placed to visit. The gardens were beautifully kept and the views over the paddocks were serene. We slept like logs in the comfortable beds and left after we were given a hearty breakfast. I will definitely be recommending Somersal to my friends and family

Stayed here for a night after doing the black water rafting abyss tour. Absolutely beautiful gardens and location. Clean place and cosy stay. Beds were comfy and shower pressure was good. Felt very home like, and the owners were lovely. The owners even booked the restaurant for my for dinner that night (of my choosing) and offered breakfast in the morning :)

We only stayed here the one night because of an accommodation emergency with our travel agent but wished we'd stayed longer! The hosts are a lovely mature couple who made us feel right at home. The rooms themselves were comfortable and clean and the surrounding gardens were magnificent, would have been nice to have stayed during spring! Would highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking to stay in the area.

So happy our travel agent stumbled across this lovely b & b. Could not have been happier with our 1 night stay here at Somersal. john & jenny made this visit feel so homely. Such a beautiful property & fantastic hospitality.. Maree

We stayed one night before doing the glow worm caves. It happened to be a Monday which ment not much was open in the little town but a 25 min drive to Te Awamutu gave us more options for dinner. The room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was brilliant, just what we needed before heading off to the caves. Our stay was pre paid through Flight Centre so no worries about paying by credit card which others have mentioned, it is their house after all and eftpos machines are expensive! Thanks for a great stay, pity the weather couldn't have been as welcoming!

We stopped at Somersal B & B for one night and it was set in lovely gardens and the room was huge. The hosts were really nice and they gave us a vast choice of breakfast items and we stayed and chatted to them for ages. The little town was great with a supermarket, hotel/pub (the Alexandra) and like all of the towns and villages immaculately kept. We ate in the pub/hotel which was really good food and great value. Recommend !

This was a one-night stay prior to a visit to Waitomo Caves. The hosts were wonderful, the room big and comfortable, the breakfast ample and delicious. A lovely home in a lovely location. Would definitely recommend.

Mr runs this place while his wife heads out to the office. And he does a fantastic job, the rooms are clean and well appointed, breakfast was substantial and well done. The price was exceptional, although be prepared with cash on hand. The grounds are stunning, a great many private seating areas, a pool and walking distance to downtown Pirongia

Usually I don’t write a review, but there’s something I like to share. I stayed there 1 night in Feb 2016. It’s also my 1st night in my life in New Zealand. Upon arrival, everything was great, nice welcome from husband and wife, clean room, bath, bed/sheet, and beautiful garden, etc. At night, bugs issue emerged. The room I stayed had one big window. When I was in the room surfing internet (light is on) with open window, bugs flew in, very annoying. If I closed the window, it’s too hot. In the end, I decided to turn light off, keep the window open, and surf internet in bath room, because I liked to keep my room bug free and cool. During this time, Expedia emailed me to give quick review (meaning few words only), and I did. Question 1: Any issue with your stay? Answer: Many bugs Question 2: Rate the hotel location Answer: Not great location Next morning, when I was saying goodbye to them, they surprised me in 2 things, my review and cash payment. Review – they confronted me and said they’re very disappointed. After explaining bugs issue, husband responded “if I told him, he could offer me a fan”, which is true. Then wife continued on location. Well, to me, great location means convenient (close to supermarket, downtown, or next attraction, etc). It’s lying to me to say great location, since I don’t think it’s convenient. Honestly, I think the location is OK and acceptable (maybe I should write that down instead), since I know where it’s located when booking. The wife was quite pissed, and said goodbye to husband, wished me having a good trip (tone is not nice), and stormed out and closed the door loudly (to me). I was quite surprised her reaction but I did not really care, because I got to solve payment issue. Husband said I need to pay “Cash” NZ $160 and Expedia did not charge on my CC, even though I entered CC info when booking. Also, husband emphasized he emailed me about cash payment 4 days prior to arrival, which I believed him but I did not see that email. In the end, I paid NZ $160 in “Cash” and left me with NZ $40 cash for the remaining 5 days trip in North island. Bottom line Would I recommend other to stay here? YES, given how much they care about review, it indicates they do want to run B&B well, plus facility is good (as long as you’re ok with Cash only, and you don’t give bad review while you are still staying there) Would I stay here again? No, I like to pay with credit card to earn points for my future trip. Hotel Cash only!? Come on, are we in stone age?
