Just returned from a fab 7 night stay in a 2 bedroom Private Pool villa at the Slate in Phuket. We were in villa 2002. Apart from an ongoing issue with the main gate which broke and we had to use a combination bike lock the villa was fantastic. Approx. 10,000 sq ft of space. 3 separate rooms with our own swimming pool which adequately housed our family of 6. We loved the outdoor showers and used the steam room and sauna in the villa. Jay and Teddy, the assigned butlers were fantastic and could not be more helpful. The Slate is a really well-designed resort based on an industrial look that although may not be to every taste, I really liked the design features of the resort. We didn't really use the communal pool as the pool in the villa was excellent. We did hear a few comments about the lack of sunbeds around the main pool but this did not affect us. One item to be wary of was the mosquitos. Despite the staff lighting coils outside the villa every night we still got bit frequently. There were quite a few mosquitos within the villa and maybe the addition of some internal mosquito repellent equipment would be a good idea. We appreciated the free repellent sprays in the room but this still did not seem to deter them! Nai Yang was a 5-minute walk from our room and we loved spending afternoons on the beach and we ate in many of the restaurants on the beach. Didn't have a bad meal and they were very reasonable priced.
We stayed at The Slate for five nights in a Pearl Suite room. We were blown away by the quality and size of our room and it was kept spotless, with a turndown service each evening where they lit a candle and put incense on the balcony to protect against mosquitos. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the shower was humongous, as was the bath. I loved the smell of the amenities which will forever remind me of Phuket now. We loved the two adults only pools which meant we could relax away from the families. The filling up of your water while you read on a day bed is incredibly indulgent and the service is so helpful and attentive. Breakfast was delicious and while there wasn't a huge amount of variety between each day, there was everything you could ask for. The only tiny criticism was the lattes were really milky, but I'm not complaining - as the lattes are included in the buffet. We ate at Black Ginger and while we loved the entry experience and sitting outside for a cocktail, the ambience of the restaurant was quite quiet and the food was quite expensive, as were the wines, for what we got. Loved the starters but less impressed by mains and desserts. We found overall that the restaurants were quite expensive and therefore chose to eat at the nearby beach restaurants which were cheap and cheerful and did just the job. Finally, the staff at The Slate were so friendly, polite, helpful and clearly took pride in delivering brilliant service. From the security guards at the beach gates to pool attendants, through to the team at the sports bar, they really made our holiday special and went above and beyond for us. We just can't wait to come back!
We have been staying at the Slate on Naiyang Beach Phuket for past 6 days. What can I say? It's lovely, very modern in a fun way. The Hotel is based on the Tin Mine industry so everything is designed with this in mind. The gardens are amazing something different to see everyday. The breakfast is well stocked with plenty of choice & very attentive staff who are always happy to help you. We stayed in a room with our own pool a lovely way to spend the end of the day or early morning with a dip in your own! We ate at a couple of the restaurants but you must visit Black Ginger. What an unexpected experience!! Fabulous food staff & location! We like the beach which is across a tiny unmade road. It's clean & the lady & her family who own the beach beds are just delightful.. The Bar just outside is also very nice for a drink & food. The locals are all friendly in this quiet place. We have loved every minute & can't wait to come back. Massages on the beach a must. In all very cheap!!
A real 5 star experience. We chose this hotel for our last night in south Thailand for its proximity to Phuket airport (around 15 min by car). It turn out to be one of the most beautiful and better decorated hotels I've even seen. The attention to details is absolutely incredible. Rooms are spacious and amazingly decorated. This resort offers everything you need for a perfect holiday. It has a good selection of bars and restaurants, various swimming pools (for families and adults only), children's club, fitness center, spa, ... Service is excellent and all the staff is super friendly. I wish we had stayed here for longer!
The Slate, formerly Indigo Pearl, is one of our favourite resorts in Phuket. Only a 10 minute drive from the airport it is in a very convenient location. A lovely quiet beach and national park is right beside. The hotel is a Design hotel so all of the details are thought of including a giant screw for the toilet paper roll and spanner shaped cutlery. Reflecting the former tin mining industry in Phuket everything is grand and industrial and done very tastefully. Three magnificent pools include two exclusively for adults. Food and beverage are of excellent quality and so too are the leisure facilities - the gym and fitness room are well equipped. Landscaping is stunning.
We regularly return to indigo pearl now rebranded the slate . The hotel is 10 minutes from Phuket airport so we spend our last couple of days staying at the slate. The buffet breakfast is one of best in Phuket with lots of choices and fresh juices. They have a number of pools around the resort including adult only pools. We had our own private pool and was a great size . Super comfy beds and great wifi access . Love the cocoon spa and purchase the products when we stay. Beautiful areas and interesting art works around the resort. Cannot wait to return again .
My family and I stayed here two years ago, when it was still the Indigo Pearl. I was very pleased that, despite the change of name, nothing about this lovely hotel has changed. In fact, I'm not sure why they bothered changing the name, as most of the stationery, bathrobes etc still have Indigo Pearl printed on them! We stayed in the room next to our previous one, and the hotel very kindly welcomed us with a lovely bottle of bubbly - most appreciated! The rooms are so big and comfortable, and it almost felt like coming home. I still haven't seen a lot of the hotel grounds, as it is so huge - but we did eat at Black Ginger this time, with pre-dinner drinks at the Tongkah Tin Syndicate. Both were really good. Normally, we eat outside the hotel, but decided to treat ourselves. Nai Yang beach is just outside the hotel. I was glad to see that it hadn't changed much either. Still really beautiful and laid-back. Hopefully we will be back one day, as I love this place.
I had private pool villa for £300/night, more expensive than Maldives/Mauritius. The room and place/area was nice, very private. Resort is in a quite location if you want peace and quite. We enjoyed the beach. Will be expensive to get to for attractions as it is far from from everything specially when you use hotel cab. The sliding doors in the room need super improving to keep mosquitoes out - This was the only room issue. Staff very friendly. I don't fancy Thai food but the restaurants where not nice. I wasted £200 on lobster which gave me Diarrhea - it felt uncooked. I couldn't see the food because the way the restaurant has set the environment with poor lighting. The main restaurant had some Indian curry which was eatable. Breakfast is not wow but edible. I don't think this place was worth paying this much and they over rate themselves. service was poor, I had to do a lot of in room dining for my son and we had to wait over an hour for simple things like bottle of milk etc. or make many calls to remind them what we want. housekeeping wouldn't leave us any tea bags - little things started to become very annoying. or bathtub outside or floor had lots of bat poo which never got cleaned for 5 days. Did I forget to mention they forget to book me a cab to the airport when i was going to Bangkok so I was so close to missing my flight.
We have been coming here for many years and this year very disappointed on how we were treated on arrival! Wrong room! Not in the area we have stayed in previously and they just don't care! They gave us a gold card a couple of years ago, dont know why they bother with it as it obviously has no benefit! Lightbulb out in shower on arrival but fixed next morning and shower water drains away very slowly so need to have a quick shower! Milk not replaced in fridge! Hope new name isn't a bad omen!
This is the designers very bad dream. Why is everything GREY, the indoors look like a prison. The property is magnificent, the pools are great. The staff is wonderful. Just outside the gates to the beach has many restaurants that are all very good. Much better than hotel food. There 5 star hotel is unlike so many I've stayed. The staff make this place popular. Good luck on that design.
