This hotel is old and needs a total makeover! Let's start with check-in...talk about horrible customer service! We arrived at 3:00 am and had to ring the door to get in, which was fine...until I walked up to the counter. Dan, did not say one word. No hello, no how can I help you. Nothing. He literally just looked at me and I then said, Hi, need to check in please. Dan then held his hand out (again not saying one word) and I ask, do you need my ID? Credit card? Like come on, talk to me, what do you need!?! It was the most rude experience I have ever had at check-in at any Marriott...ever! When we first walked in, the room smelled like cigarette smoke. The carpet looked grungy and dirty. The fridge and dishwasher had water stains on them. You could just tell that housekeeping didn't wipe anything down. We ended up only staying the one night as we couldn't take it. We were lucky to find another Residence Inn to stay at for the rest of the weekend. Breakfast was the usual Residence Inn breakfast. I do have to say that the staff at breakfast and the check-out guy, Jung, were really nice to deal with. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend the hotel and would not stay again.
Been here a couple months now, and I can tell you WiFi is very spotty. It's free and with that said, should answer that one. (Ie. Very slow) They have a faster internet speed, but you pay for that and your Marriot points can not be used. The kitchen did come scares with the proper pots and pans, but if you just ask the front desk, they will bring you what you need if they have it. I have received everything I asked for. Yes some of the utensils have been used and show wear, but that's to be expected. I did have one instance where the staff came into my room without notice. My sign/magnet stating no service was posted and their response was that the TV was getting upgraded. They later gave me 2000 reward points for not posting a notice and inconvenience. Their breakfast is limited, but is free/included. They have free drinks Monday through Thursday 6-7:30(Wine and beer) Not bad, but food provided not great. Limited budget is what I was told... Are wings expensive?? No wings ever!! lol Anyway, the reason behind the title is what you see when you arrive in your room. Everything from the carpets to the chairs to the blinds, scream 70's.. One more thing, there are a lot of transients walking around the area. Maybe it has to do with the Strip club across the street?
Was a little afraid when we arrived due to the location across from a large mall and then saw the sign missing for the hotel entrance . I was pleasantly surprised it was top notch and great staff great rooms and awesome housekeeping staff !!
Overall this Residence Inn was better than most, my rating is actually based on stays at Residence Inns and not a comparison to other hotels. The location is good for access to Phoenix and Tempe without having all of the undesirable parts of staying right downtown. The room was very clean and well service, parking was adequate. There is a pool, exercise room and activity space for kids. At the top of the list though was Vern and the crew serving the evening hospitality room, they were friendly, happy and took a sincere interest in those of us there.
---original user review----- This is the second time I've posted this review as tripadvisor sent an email to me suggesting my review was not accurate for the hotel and it may be a mistake. I can only guess that it was the hotel that brought this to their attention although I can't fathom why. My review is 100% accurate for the Residence Inn Tempe. Stayed here while taking a course at ASU. Great location, close to dozens of cool restaurants and shops. About a 15 minute walk through campus to the business school. The ASU campus is gorgeous. We faced the mountain (good view). The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The staff are awesome. The breakfast is eh for my taste. There is something for everyone but the meats were sooo salty. The cocktail reception during the week is fun and the wine and beer is good. The pool is really small. We were there during spring break and training so a few days you couldn't get a seat. The towels for the pool were all gone one day, but I called down and they were replenished very quickly. Wifi is good. Really grateful to the shuttle for taking us to our rental car place when we checked out. Big help. She was super friendly too.
I was booked for a Studio Suite, but dueven to them being sold out I was upgraded to a Double King Room Suite. Very roomy, clean, full kitchen with dishwasher, 2 full baths, outside pool, enclosed basketball court that can be used for tennis or volleyball, on site gym, and laundry room. Only downside is they only have exterior corridors so the entrance to your room is on the outside of the hotel.
Nice location nice rooms great breakfast close to Arizona mills mall. Nice location for spring training . Close to Ikea in Chandler Red lobster and REI world market bed bath & beyond in Chandler Outback steak house Claim jumper restaurant
My wife and I stayed here for 1 week from February 12th-19th. This was our 5th trip to the Phoenix area and our first staying in Tempe. Check In: Very quick and hassle free. Room: The size of the room was decent. Previous pics shown by travelers detail the layout of the rooms so I opted not to upload any. The bed was extremely firm which made for sore backs every morning. On the 3rd day I asked the front desk if they had another mattress pad to soften up the bed. He stated he wasn't sure but would check with housekeeping. When we got back to the room later that day I could notice a small change to it. It could have been more forgiving but at least they tried. The TV routinely lost reception which was annoying. Breakfast: It was complimentary is what I had to remind myself. If only staying for a few days it would be fine but 6 nights of basically the same food got old. They had sausage at least 4 of the 6 mornings. They never offered bacon. They had biscuits and gravy one morning but the biscuits were hard. Almost every morning they served a vegetable scramble along with eggs in the other container. They had one waffle maker but didn't serve pancakes or French toast. The fresh fruit was either really plentiful or just one type of fruit. Fitness Center: Just Cardio equipment Laundry Room: $2.00 to wash and $2.00 to dry. Convenient yes but expensive. Less than a mile away is a coin laundry and it's cheaper. Just another option. If staying in Tempe again we would stay elsewhere.
I would like to start with room first because that's the main I always look forward. We stayed in Residence Inn for about 3 weeks in 2 bedroom suite. - Suite: 2 Bedroom The suite was just awesome. It came with fully functional kitchen. Each bedroom had attached bathroom with perfect king size bed in the bedroom. Each bedroom comes with tv unit and chest drawer. So it is perfect for family of size 4-5 people. All cutlery will be provided in the kitchen. Kitchen comes with dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (the old style one), toaster and electric gas. You will get room service everyday. - Front Desk: The front Desk people was awesome and helpful. I had little trouble in first assigned suite and they changed it to another suite. All were polite and helpful. - Breakfast: The reservation comes with buffet breakfast. Breakfast had 3-4 types of juice, coffee, boiled egg, scrambled egg, waffles, milk, cereal, banana, apple and many more. The helper during breakfast was very good. They will fulfill your request upto there best. -Location: The location of this hotel is very nice, there CVS at 0.2 miles and The arizona mills mall, other restaurants with-in radius of 1 miles. The I-10, US-60 freeways is about 0.5 miles. This is very convenient location to stay with family.
I liked this hotel. Usually, I stay downtown Tempe, but it was unavailable, so I stayed here. It was a nice hotel with very friendly staff. I liked the room layout, as my colleague and I decided to stay together. We each had a bedroom, with the living room and kitchen in the middle. There was even a fireplace for the cool nights. There were good restaurants nearby, and we enjoyed our stay. However, there is some room for a few improvements. The furniture is tired and worn, and so was the carpet. There was a big stain on the living room carpet that probably could have been cleaned with a shampooer. The breakfast was not refilled with hot food regularly, and the toaster was broken. Just a little attention to detail could have made this stay even better. I would stay here again.
