Kathryn welcomed us when we arrived and was a consistent smiling face throughout our four days. She anticipated our questions and needs and moved us to a better room as soon as it was available. The place overall is what you would expect from this class of hotel and perfectly fine. It's also conveniently located. One disappointment was that the pool looked far larger on the web site. Don't be fooled by the angle of the photo as we were; it's quite small. It was also cold though that may be a temporary problem.
The rooms were clean, quiet, well appointed and very comfortable beds. The two-bedroom suite has separate bedrooms (one is slightly larger) with windows. Kitchen area also has a window with a nice full sized refrigerator with freezer, microwave, induction burners, coffeemaker, toaster and dishwasher, stocked with dishwashing and dishwasher soaps, plates, utensils and even kitchen towels and potholders, The landscaping outside is attractive, there is a refreshing pool, and even a lit in the evenings fire pit. The breakfast is well varied and delicious. There is hot water and coffee (regular and decaf), juices, fruit, gourmet muffins. You can even request a fruit and granola yogurt parfait! The parking lot has good lighting, entry in the room buildings is by card access. It is near Arizona Mills Mall, with a shuttle bus available. You can quite comfortably stay here one night or several.
Old and worn out - smells bad in room, hall & lobby. Couch in room threadbare and extensively scratched and torn by animal. Carpet is worn & smells bad. Pool not heated, but does have a nice deck and courtyard area. Just old & worn, and because of that overpriced. I’m a TownPlace Suites “fan”, but this one is FAR below the company’s standards.
Good service at front desk, room was kept up nice. Breakfast is the Marriott cookie cutter. Day 1 sausage eggs and waffles hot Day 2 a different sausage, eggs and waffles Day 3 Biscuit with sausage gravy, eggs and waffles Marriott has eliminated all other sides or dishes and this hotel is a Marriott. Best West across the street had potatoes, pancakes and more on breakfast menu.
If not for the friendliness I would've given a lower rating. When we checked in and asked about the pool we were told the heater was out but we could go next door and ask for a pass key. On day 2 notified front desk that the shower was slow to drain. They put a ticket in but it was never fixed, you would think housekeeping would catch that. Continental breakfast was ok nothing great. Again staff was very friendly.
I chose Towne Place Suites becuase I needed to extend my stay at Residence Inn, but they were full. I called the property before inquiring if I could get a really quiet room because I would be working late in the night and sleeping during the day. I got a room on the top floor away from the elevator. The room was quite small compared to Residence Inn and the decor was dated and in need of a refurbish. The bed was comfortable and the air/con effective. (the actual air/con unit under the window was cracked) The window looks to be only single pane old style slider that has a screw in it now to prevent opening. The breakfast room is pretty small. There is only styrofoam plates and plastic untensils. No cut fruit is aviallble. When I was sleeping in the early morning I was awoken several times by - Barking dogs in another room - Housekeeping using a very loud vaccuum cleaner in the adjacent room and continuously banging it against the wall behind me head What I liked: - Very friendly staff To improve - Like some other hotels I've seen, restrict dogs to (something like) the street level floor - Advise housekeeping to be less agreesive with vacuum cleaners - Be more sensitive to guests needs that you know will be sleeping during the day I checked out after 1 night
What is lacking in newness ~ the facility is dated ~ is more than made up for by the friendly and accommodating Staff, everyone included. There is no service request that went unanswered, unresolved, or not dealt with. The rooms are ok and the larger suites spacious, with a mix of Marriott business furniture, kitchen area, small table, and a cramped bedroom. But if you're not laying around in bed all day, who cares? Housekeeping was pleasant and friendly, noticing how many towels were being used and where to replace furnishings. The facility is close to fast/fried food but the shuttle will take you most anywhere. Lyft to eateries at the University or downtown Tempe averaged $12 each way. The mall is across the street with a food court, theaters (including iMax), and typical big mall shopping. On the mall parking lot is a Claim Jumper Restaurant (pretty decent), and a Joe's Crab Shack (fried/frozen "seafood"). Everyone was friendly even as they juggled multiple and divergent requests and, despite the negatives, all of them were overshadowed by the accommodating nature of the Staff. The only bothersome issue was the room AC - it was loud and blew directly onto the bed and at the desk area.
We stayed here four nights in early February. Marriott's own website listed the 2 bedroom Suite as a King / Queen combination. The manager informed us that there were no King / Queen Suites in this facility. We were given a handicap room, so we're not sure if it was representative of other suites, but the room in my opinion is just a tad better than a 2 star motel. The only aspect that was 3 star would be the bed comfort. The second Queen room is miserably small with no TV, clock or radio. Furnishings are outdated. Only one bathroom for 4 occupants is very inconvenient. Air Conditioning is central to both bedrooms and when one couple wants it warm and the other wants it cool, you've got issues. Walls are paper thin between the rooms. The bathroom looked very similar to any 1 star hotel. Absolutely nothing special about it. Breakfast is so-so. On my last night, my wife and I opted for the Holiday Inn express across the street and for a better price, got a better room, much better breakfast at a better price. I realize TownePlace resides at the bottom of the Marriott lineup, but I've never been disappointed with any Marriott Property until now. Springhill is just next door and could be a better option.
This is the place that we always choose to stay at when visiting Phoenix. The rooms are so clean and very spacious. The staff is very friendly and professional. They have a very good breakfast in the morning- it includes standard fare such as toast, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, etc. The food is prepared well and is always plentiful. They also have decent coffee (and tea) available 24/7. The hotel has a shuttle that provides basic, local transportation. This is great and invaluable if you need to go to/from the airport or for other local stops. The shuttle is clean, the drivers are nice and very courteous/helpful. Another thing that I like is that- being a rewards member with a higher status- I am sometimes upgraded to a nicer or larger room. They make me feel as though they appreciate my loyalty to their brand- and they do it well. More hotels should take a lesson from them! I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!
The staff here was as friendly as any I have ever experienced. We were here for 5 days and the suite was well equipped—even an outdoor gas grill and fire pit! It was a very pleasant stay! The rooms were clean and service was excellent!
