We stayed in a family room with two double beds. The room was clean and spacious and the hotel is well located in the city. It is not a high end hotel but if you are on a budget then you can't go wrong. My only niggle was that the air conditioning didn't work and the windows didn't open, thankfully if was a cool January evening.
The hotel has very strange policies concerning payment. I booked through Booking.com and the Criterion was the only one out of 8 Australian hotels where I had to pay for the first night when booking. Then I had to pay the rest of the amount when checking in. And to top all that - and as a surprise to me anyway - the hotel reserved 100 AUD on my card. I was told it was for 6-7 working days but it was actually for a full month. The room was quite tired and worn so l took lots of pictures. But it was spacious and most things were ok apart from the bed. That was really horrible! I should have asked for another room but was afraid to miss my little bit of view (backstreet and parking lot). Staff very nice. I had breakfast in the restaurant as it was convenient and almost ok. The actual building was art deco, beautiful but the outside was very badly maintained. Such a shame. If the payment policy of the hotel had resembled the other Australian hotels I stayed in I would definitely have given 3 stars.
The hotel is in a very good location. Other positives are - the towels & linen are clean & in good order. Bed is comfortable. Shower is clean enough & accompanied by adequate soap & shampoo. 'Fridge + Coffee & tea making facility. In room safe is handy. Lots of restaurants & bars in the immediate vicinity. On the negative side - maintenance is poor. In the room allocated to me, the air conditioner is missing louvres making it impossible to direct air flow. The hand basin is badly cracked. Sealing with silicon is hardly satisfactory. The door to the 'fridge cabinet is coming adrift from its hinges. All carpets require replacing.
The room was clean but the hotel was in a bad state of repair, aircon water dripping into bowls behind the receptionist, poorly maintained rooms and lack of facilities. The rooms on the top floor also suffer from the noise of the industrial fan on the roof which starts at 6 a.m.
This place is probably the dirtiest hotel I have stayed in ever. Cobwebs, mould you name it,this please has it. The cleanest thing I saw was the towels. It is affordable but I won’t be returning. The place needs some serious tlc.
Used to stay at the Criterion Hotel on weekends with my boys and friends to enjoy relaxing weekends. Very convenient location, close to shops, countless restaurants, cinema and IGA just at the hotel premise. Beautiful Italian cuisine at the lobby and a bottle shop. Staff at the hotel were super friendly and accommodating. Rooms were always clean and spacious too. I first started staying at this hotel from 2004, then with friends and family many times over after that.
Partner and i stayed here as an easy place to get to after the Swan Valley Wine Tour. Room was large and comfortable, bath could have been a bit cleaner. The hotel is in desperate need of maintenance and an overall fixup. We stayed on the top floor, where one window was open all the time, letting in midgies and moths.. overall a great hotel, but needs a good fix up.
I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in September. The hotel is rather old, but perfectly clean, rooms are spacious, comfortable, the staff is very, very polite and nice. Hotel is very conveniently located in the centre, it is also very easy to get it from the airport by bus (n.380). I did not try breakfast, as I preferred to go out for coffee-there is a lot of cafeteries and small restaurants nearby.
The location is excellent, but its very very old and run down. The staff are a bit clueless, the price was ok for Perth but just not up to scratch for modern times. Walls are so thin and you can hear everything from your neighbours. Room was clean. Good if you are really really on a budget, I recommend to pay a little more and stay somewhere nicer
This place was great for a one night stay. I needed somewhere cheap and central that was close to the train station. The place has so much potential as it is a beautiful old building in such a good location. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated, refurbished or painted in a very long time. The room was clean however there is a fair bit of paint peeling of the walls. Everything does work but is just very old. The bed wasn't overly comfortable as it was clearly a cheap and old mattress. The staff are friendly and we were even able to leave our bags for a couple of hours after checkout while we went into the city.
