Disappointed Anniversary Stay

We booked 2 days for our Anniversary in the King Suite. Upon arrival checking in the front receptionist that dealt with us was professional until the other male receptionist started complaining out loud he had to talk to upcoming guest for 35 minutes on the phone which both receptionist laughing and complaining in front of guest checking in. Very unprofessional behaviour for front staff. When we received a phone call saying our room was clean we checked our room out. Detail was not look at for example inside the armoire where the tv and fridge were it was full of dust. The patio was not swept where chocolate peanuts under the patio chairs and pine needles on the cement floor. I read in other comment the place needs a lot of updating but I looked past that hoping it wasn’t so bad. They were right… wallpaper peeling off the walls, furniture stained, carpets have large stains, end table covered in big water stains and the bed very uncomfortable … looking under sheet a very old mattress that sinks in the centre. Now the hot tub above reception covered in pine cone with needles getting in our suit. We decided to try the hot tub below near cafe which was clean but didn’t work properly. Getting dark we thought the lights would come on so we could see where we were walking through pool area… husband 70 having to use our flashlight to find our way out. Maybe they were trying to save electricity I don’t know. Restaurant over priced! Would we come back- no!

Warm pool overlooking the ocean. Great food overlooking the ocean and if you arrive by boat a great jumping off point to many islands in the gulf like Saturna, Tumbo, Maine etc.

We had an Ocean View room. The view was incredible! The room could use refurbishing though. It was looking very worn - carpet had large stains, the entry door was very hard to open as the door hardware was not properly installed. Paint was due for an update. Some of the gym equipment was out of order. The bed was very comfortable and cozy. Food in the restaurants was excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The staff was amazing and friendly. Amazing ocean views with beautiful sunsets from our deck every night. The only downside was our room is starting to show its age and could due for an updated remodel.

The setting and geography is beautiful. We really enjoyed the location on the beach especially at low tide. The resort itself however appears to need a good scrub and update. We did have a nice stay, but here are some of the things that surprised us given the high per night price tag at the villa… Cobwebs up high around windows/drapery and very dusty/dirty window screens Food found in pull-out couch/bed Stained carpets / furniture Couch/chair cushions worn out In twin bedroom… Bed frame and box spring didn’t fit mattress causing bed frame to jut out and cause hazard for shins. Bathroom fan emits a horrible buzzing sound from switch. Ants in the villa. Carbon monoxide detector sitting on mantle with batteries loose and not installed Limited parking and very dusty parking lot near villas. Hopefully in the low season these things will be addressed. The resort has so much potential if the management stays on top of things.

The location of the property was beautiful and has a lot of potential. The resort itself is run down, dirty, and in dire need of a renovation and deep clean. There was no management on site, just young uninterested workers who looked like they just rolled out of bed - unbrushed hair, wearing dirty oversized pyjamas. The room was NOT clean - greasy fingerprints, dust, mold, stains. Ripped old furniture, musty towels. It was in shambles. The staff was not helpful. They come to clean your room at dinner time instead of during the day while you’re out. It’s sad because there are countless reviews like this one which leads me to believe management is 100% aware of the issues at hand, but has yet to do anything to remedy this situation for future guests. Marketing yourself as luxury resort in these conditions is misleading and a straight up lie. Will not be coming back.

Located in a lovely area. Buildings were nice, but looked like they needed some care - paint needed touch ups, fixture in hall missing, chairs could use reupholstering. Overpriced food. Our stay at The Poets Cove was awesome and disappointing at the same time. Whatever was outside of villa 609 we rented was pretty awesome, with the pools, ocean access, walks and hikes, tennis courts and the restaurant serving probably the best meals on the island. The inside was a sad story of years of poor maintenance. The dishwasher was dead and the maintenance could not fix or replace it in the week we were there. The toilets required flushing twice to work properly. The carpets, furniture and curtains had not been deep-cleaned in ages, with visible stains and a musty smell lingering. The mattress was so lumpy it felt like sleeping on a camel’s back - definitely not restful. The decks, windows and siding have not been cleaned, covered in mold, dirt and grime that made meals on the deck unpleasant. The other problem was that staff appeared to be smoking tobacco (and not) right on the property. Yes I get they could be off-duty while doing so and they could be living in the same building but that did add to the experience. The units were not air conditioned so we had to keep the windows opened and breath with whatever the staff was smoking. For the management -- you suggested a discount and I suggested back that you use that money to finally replace the dishwasher which was gross and unsanitary. I hope you can report that the mission has been accomplished.

Room for improvement!

The best is the location, the view! I wish the owner of this property came as an undercover guest. Obviously it’s hard to get qualified staff on Pender when you only pay minimum wages although the price level should give room for improvement. More than once we thought of giving the breakfast room a chance but each time we turned around not only because of the teenager with the heavy metal through her nose but also because of the smell of the room. Even some flowers could have brightened up the place. One of the two pools were closed so the remaining one was filled like a fish soup and the management couldn’t care less. As a result I recommend not to pick a room close to the pool unless you are hearing impaired. To end on a positive note - the food was delicious. We’ll, if you are lucky enough to get a table in the evening even as a hotel guest.
