Hotel has a very pleasant lobby, modern and well lit. Inviting, like a fly trap. The second you move to the floor above things start to look poorer, however, the room was fine. Clean, good bed, satisfactory view, bathroom nice. Went to the bar, waited 7 full minutes for service, paid almost 7 euro for a "pint" of 500ml lager. The beer was good enough and I accept this is a pretty average price. I drink two thirds of my drink and request another and present the bar staff with the cash, I leave it with her while I go outside for a cigarette. Upon my return I find I do not have a drink, I have to wait a further 5 minutes for her return, for her to tell me she wants to use my old glass. I advise her that it is yet to be finished and I would have liked the drink ready for my return, which was clearly not understood as she informs me that she is ok with waiting for me to finish. I finish my beer, get my OLD glass topped up to contain the required fluid and when I request my change 4 times, she tells me it's ok... Language barrier? Maybe just poor service. Stop here for a the location and the bed.
Adequate, nice sized rooms, which were clean and airy. Otherwise not particularly Inspiring. Breakfast was reasonable and included in the room rate ... thank you we stop again here see you soon peter T
Stayed there overnight en-route to Bruges of Belgium from Giverny of France. We arrived in the hotel at around 6:00pm, but it took 30 minutes of waiting at the front counter only to be told that we couldn’t be checked-in due to system failure! We decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant while waiting for the system to resume working. It was a small struggle fixing the order for our small group of friends and family due partially to the lack of English proficiency of the wait staff there. Distributing the ordered dishes to the right guests caused another small casino after the long wait. The confusion was largely caused by the wait staff who didn’t follow the written order sheets for each table, and just pushed the dishes to guests randomly which failed to deliver the right dishes to the right guests. Water and bread were not offered until we reminded the wait staff for a few times. Luckily the food was good and I must take my hat off for the chef. Pork chop was thick and very well done with very tender texture, Duck Breast was done exactly to my request, and Sea-bass was tasty. However the other dishes lagged a bit behind the high standard set by the other dishes mentioned. I was not happy either with the service attitude of wait staff at breakfast at the same restaurant—Origin. I was told to find seat at a section outside the main dining area where I found most tables had not been cleaned and set after the previous guests. I decided to move back to the main dining area where many vacant tables already set and available, after more than five minutes at the outside section sitting and waiting for table setting to no avail. Didn’t manage to understand the wait staff’s intention, and the only logical explanation was that he didn’t want to serve anymore guests in the dining section which came under his responsibility! Other than the negative experience in the restaurant for two counts, everything else was fine with clean room, adequate amenities and good free WiFi. I’ll rate this hotel a good 4-Star if the service attitude of B&F wait staff could be dealt with properly.
This is a very nice option we found after the Ibis we usually stay in was full booked. Slightly more expensive than the Ibis chain, but on par with the Novatel for quality. We felt safe where the hotel was, with secure parking. There is a swimming pool [we did not use]. Good breakfast, very comfortable beds, large rooms. Will defiantly stay again.
Rooms were adequate and beds comfortable. However the food produced for a large group was very poor and not up to usual French standards. Dry and unappetising Chicken. Very poor quality low grade wine.
We stayed here 2 years ago & had a lovely 1 night stay with evening meal. So as we where this way again we decided to stay again, Holiday Inn Calais did not disappoint. Staff Pleasant polite helpful, room clean & comfortable. Evening meal lovely & breakfast with lots of choice. Would highly recommend this hotel.
We stopped here in our way to France from Manchester. Rooms are nice, big, clean and modern. The corridor to the rooms is not renovated. Breakfast so and so not so huge and with that automatic coffee machine that makes horrible cappuccino. However I asked to the staff and tehy gave me a proper cappuccino. We had dinner at the restaurant and we were satisfied. I think we will come back for sure in our way back
Stayed here twice in three weeks the hotel rooms are lovely. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Very comfortable beds and pleasant, efficient reception staff. The restaurant on the other hand didn’t quite get it right on either occasions. On the first visit husband ordered the carbonnade of beef which he had with chips. He said it was excellent. Piping hot freshly cooked chips and well cooked veg. I, on the other hand ordered lamb shank which was slightly warmer than fridge cold a warm sauce had been poured over which became cold. The dauphinois potatoes weren’t hot either. The restaurant was very quiet but nobody came to check if food was ok. Staff just weren’t visible Second visit. I ordered the club sandwich which was lovely, husband ordered steak which came with a bearnaise sauce. The steak he said was delicious the sauce however was stone cold and had set solid in the sauce boat. This was pointed out to the manager who immediately told us bearnaiseis is served cold. We told him we knew this but it had arrived lukewarm and when I tipped the jug upside down he told me it was meant to be thick I told him we knew this too but I then dragged a spoon along the surface and told him it shouldn’t be the consistency of scrambled egg and nor should it be sliced out of the jug! If something is so obviously wrong please don’t try to pretend it isn’t.
Hotel is dated, staff is very nice. My husband travels and uses points to stay at these places. They told us that only if we worked for holiday inn would breakfast be included. This is the only holiday inn we’ve stayed at that did not include breakfast. When we walked down the hall we realize that it was old and the carpets were not very clean. When we walked into the room they appeared to be somewhat updated compared to the hallways. It’s location is close to most places and allowed us a day trip to Dunkirk and to Belgium.
The downstairs of the hotel has had a refurbishment since our last visit. The reception is lighter and spacious, but gone are the comfy sofas and chairs. We were looking forward to having a drink in the bar area, as it always had a good atmosphere and comfy seating, not now after the refurbishment. If the hotel was full, the bar area would struggle to cope, as most of the tables have gone and have been replace with low coffee style tables, low back chairs or stools and neither are comfortable The restaurant has had the same make over, fewer tables in the main area from the bar, same uncomfortable seating. The feel and look is less restaurant, more coffee shop style. I cannot comment on the food as we didn’t eat in the evening on this visit. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice, hot choices were sausages, bacon, tomatoes and beans, with scrambled egg, if you could call them scrambled. I have never ever seen eggs so liquified. It had to be powered egg, as I’m sure real eggs wouldn’t be like water. The bedrooms are fine, nice size, a choice of hard or soft pillows, a comfy bed, good size bathroom and both areas clean. The window can be open to allow fresh air in, which I prefer and there are tea making facilities in the room, but no safe. All the staff are friendly and efficient. I would still recommend the hotel for a stop over hence the four stars, as it does have a pool and gym, plus it is only a short drive to and from the tunnel. Just don’t expect any comfortable seating downstairs.
