Hopefully after the end of the extensive works to the entrance hall, reception area, restaurant, bar, etc. the hotel will look more inviting. Missed a place to sit, wind down and chat quietly. Television in the bar/restaurant area was running constantly, fairly loud. Food to my delight was better than expected, well presented indeed. Service could not be faulted. I had a good night's sleep in a nice, clean and well thought out double room. I did not use the facilities e.g. pool, gym, etc. but they looked clean and well run.
Good except the unexpected building work We have stopped at the Holiday Inn at Coquelles before and have always been very satisfied. Our latest visit to Coquelles coincided with our wedding anniversary and we again were looking forward to stopping at the Holiday Inn and have an anniversary meal in the on-site restaurant. When we arrived we booked in and requested a table later on in the restaurant but were informed that the hotel was having refurbishments and the restaurant was closed. We were informed that all food including breakfast would be served in the pub area. I asked why as this was a longstanding booking and this refurbishment must have been known when we booked we hadn’t been subsequently informed. I even mentioned that the visit was for our wedding anniversary but were not addressed sympathetically. What was also off-putting was that the carpets were covered with dusty footprints. The rooms were very well done and if the rest of the refurbishment is as good we will still consider this our stopping off point in the future.
We have used this hotel 2 or 3 times previously but were dissapointed to arrive last weekend to find the hotel was going through a much needed refurbishment. The make shift bar and restaurant along with the smell of paint and the reception area that looked like a furniture storage room, all detracted from what should have been a pleasant overnight stay. Whilst it is good to see a company investing in improving its properties , you would expect that they would let their customers know that they have reduced facilities (but not room tariffs). It's about communication and it must have been relatively easy for the hotel or Inter Continental Hotels as accompany to inform customers via their website at least. Yes it did detract from our stay and it is doubtful that we will return and the reason we didn't t complain whilst we were there is because what could the hotel management do ...suspend the refurbishment ?
We stayed here twice in March (actually our 7th visit in two years) and everything I have said previously about the hotel holds true. Sadly, our evening meal on March 5th was the worst service we have received anywhere ever. We had hoped that the refurbishment, which has been going in for months, would be finished but unfortunately the restaurant was still closed and dinner was being served in the bar area. It was cramped but we didn’t mind. To begin, our waiter insisted that I spoke English!! After so many years living in France, that was not what I expected. Consequently, I did not order exactly what I wanted but again, it was not a problem. Our entrees arrived promptly, we ate them and the table was cleared. We then waited 40 minutes for our main course. Yes, that’s right 40 minutes. We watched everyone else around us receive and eat their meals, tables cleared and desserts ordered. I asked politely twice for our meal and on the third time of asking the response was “I’m bringing your desserts now!!!” At that point we gave up and went to our room. Later, our original meals were delivered to our room with an apology but to be honest we were both too tired and angry to eat. We stayed again two weeks later and as the restaurant was still in the bar we did not eat there. In conclusion, in spite of all the good things in this hotel, we are very reticent to stay again. Once the refurbishment is complete and the restaurant returns to its former good standards, we might consider it. Incidentally, we have never been advised of the building works in advance and it does seem that other guests have?
Stayed here for one night with my husband and 2 boys (10+11yrs ) particularly choose this hotel as it had an indoor pool which I knew would keep the boys happy. The reception staff (2 males) were very welcoming, our room was on the 1st floor and was very clean & tidy. A sofa bed was provided for the boys which they said was very comfortable. There was refurbishment works going on which we were made aware of prior to our booking and it did not interrupt our stay in anyway with the exception of a strong paint odour at breakfast. Breakfast is the main reason I have not scored 5* it was chaos. Part of the dining room was in the foyer due to the refurb (I'm assuming) which was fine but there was no welcome on arrival guests we're UST looking at each other unsure as what to do when we did seat ourselves there were no plates,& when they were brought out they were only small side plates, only fruit teas were available the coffee ran out. The glasses ran out,the staff struggled and you could see they were run off their feet trying to restock the hot & cold offerings, then there were no tongs or spoons to pick up the food with but it wasn't even that busy it just appeared they were totally unprepared for any guests, that said when it was stocked it was hot and a good selection. The pool was ok but not that warm so we didn't stay in long which was a shame as that was the main reason we booked, towels were provided but the changing areas could do with a deep clean & brightening up,but maybe they are on the refurb list. The boys loved the chickens free roaming in the carpark!!
Stopped here for a quick overnight stay as it’s got a great location only 5 mins from the ferry port or eurotunnel and 1 min from cite Europe. I booked direct with the hotel and feel let down they didn’t think to explain it’s currently have a major renovation! However my room was a good standard.
We have stayed here many times on our one night stopovers either to or from holidays. We have over the years stayed in various hotels in the area, but this is by far the best. I cannot fault the hotel and restaurant . Hotel is in easy reach of the tunnel crossing and Eurocity and is actually in the country. We were welcomed by a a hen and her chicks in the car park yesterday!! Before the efficient and friendly concierge welcomed us
Easy to find, 5 minute drive from the channel tunnel. Staff were friendly on arrival, was building work going on, didn’t bother us, the workers were even friendly all saying hello. Stayed in a family suite, very good size room, separate living area which had a sofa bed made up for the kids, 2 TVs, large walk in wardrobe which we didn’t make use of for the 1 night but room was immaculate and the bed was extremely comfortable after the drive, had a good nights sleep. The free wi fi had a good signal (up to 33mb on my phone). Breakfast was nice, good selection of continental, cereals and also some hot selections, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and beans, the waitress came round and asked if we would like a hot chocolate which was a nice touch. All in all, great location, clean hotel comfortable hotel with really friendly staff, definitely recommend if you are looking for a stopover on your way in or out of France.
A regular first stop for us when travelling from Scotland and the ground floor room was as satisfyingly comfortable as ever. The Reception area was being renovated and in a mess but the staff on the temporary Reception desk were as helpful and professional as ever. The extensive grounds give fido a much-needed chance to run around. Easy hotel to find on GPS and to leave and get back on the road next morning.
Arrived at the hotel to find it being renovated, wouldn’t be an issue to us normally however we didn’t have any warning and the hotel were not on top of the mess. Towel protecting the Reception PC from dust, sofas you couldn’t sit on and the building area not contained (see photos). The lady in the bar was prickly to say the least, food was ok but nothing to shout about. The newly renovated rooms are lovely, however the hotel is cold. Very disappointing overall
