Hotel Maubeuge Gare du Nord2.0 out of 5.0

Booked this based on some photos and other reviews, was sadly mistaken when we got there. Staff was only a little friendly. Room was cramped, only had 1 plug in for charging cameras. Bathroom was very tiny. Cleaning staff barely made the beds and there was only one towel. Would not be returning here.
Rooms were not what was shown online. Very small rooms. Bathroom was a nightmare.. not big enough to turn around in. It smelled like mildew and there was mold in the bathroom. Outside on balcony was a dirty pantyliner. Staff was unfriendly.
I am glad we only stayed there for one night and were more out than in, because this is not where you want to stay if you need/want to stay longer. Basically, majority of the reviews you see you can trust as they are right. Pros: - Close to Gare du Nord station (good if you travel by Eurostar) - Comfy beds - Staff friendly and speaking English Cons: - Dust on the furniture - Lack of Aircon- We travelled in October and it felt hot, I do not want to imagine the state of this room in summer - Horribly smelling and ridiculously small bathroom (To be honest, a large person would struggle to fit in and this is a concern as everyone is different) - Loud streets and sirens every now and then Overall, the cons were bearable, but only because we were there for a short time. Don't expect too much from this place.
This is where we stay when we go by car to Paris. Everything is not perfect. Far from perfect sometimes. But the garage (Garage de Abbeville) is close and can be trusted. The cost is low, bus number 42 stays at the hotel and I actually walked to Canal St Martin from the hotel. It is not far. Non-functioning TV and weak WiFi in some rooms, lamps that need repair - all that is part of the adventure. And this time, there was a severe water leak in the lobby. Or the floor above. Never a dulll moment at Hotel Maubeuge. Reception has been re-arranged and the breakfast room is now somewhat hidden. But breakfast as such is much improved over last time we stayed here. We wouldn't stay there in hot weather. There is no AC and rooms get quite hot. Nice staff - they even wanted to reimburse one night when I was forced to leave one day early. We are not directly proud of Hotel Maubeuge. But it fits our needs and, as already said: never a dull moment.
Avoid this hotel. Especially room 630. Invested with bed bugs. Was bitten over 50 times. Horrible stuffy room right in front of the bus stop. No aircon. Bathroon basin was blocked. Towels looked like floor rags. Really the low point of our holiday
Hotel located very near to Nord station, easy to travel other Europe countries, South Indian foods available near by the hotel, hop-on hop-off (Paris City tour bus) available near to the hotel, for tourist good place to stay.
Had Room 418. Floor not swept when arrived. Foisty smell from bathroom and toilet. No AC - fan working but had to open balcony door for airflow. 28 degrees heat when we arrived and as a busy street we hardly had any sleep all night. Had stone balcony with dirty glass, muck and fag butts. Toilet and bathroom separate - both were absolutely tiny with hardly any room to move - particularly once had a shower. Toilet extractor fan wasn't working - no fun sat in high temperatures!! Also had horrible drains smell - another reason for leaving the door open at night. Bathroom had a storage cabinet and hairdryer. Water pressure good and instant hot water. Floor space less than 6'. Only had a single wardrobe - no other storage space. 3 wall lights and 1 desk lamp - only 1 wall light worked. The only available plug socket was hanging off the wall and not fir for purpose, so we had no electrical plugs to use - no way to charge phone. 2 drinking glasses supplied were filthy. Safe locked and not accessible - had to get a safe lock from reception. Ongoing problems with the door fob. Customer service flippant at best. Only 2 pillows supplied. No mattress topper. Bottom sheet had small holes looking like cigarette burnholes. Top sheet was obviously clean but was badly marked. Clean towels supplied daily Breakfast was not worth 8.50 Euros. The most basic of continental fayre - no choice of flavoured yogurts (constantly natural), croissants and pastries, cereals, cheese and ham - although for 3 days there was not even any cheese. Very small breakfast area - often no clean plates to use - had to wait for them to be washed. Lift area also filthy, dusty and no cosmetic appeal whatsoever. Whole interior in dire need of redecoration and a deep clean. Reception area shabby, dusty and unwelcoming. Plants caked in dust. The breakfast room and reception area photos on the website must be from another hotel - they no way reflect the actual facilities. No seating area/lounge. This is simply the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. 1* at best. The only endearing feature is the closeness to the train station/metro and the bus stop immediately outside - but I would never stay here again - or recommend anyone else to.
We arrived around 11 pm from the airport, and our room wasn't cleaned, the bathroom was disgusting and they didn't have other available rooms or anyone to clean ours. We had to look for another hotel at 1am and were charged for that night in this hotel. You can find much better hotel nearby with the same price or lower.
This hotel is perfectly average. It's a super handy 4 minute walk from Gare du Nord train station (where there is also a metro station) and also a 30 second walk from the stop for the express bus to Disneyland Paris, which came in handy as we'd booked tickets including the express bus online. The rooms are small but okay and there's a working TV in each room - the stairs are a little treacherous if you're on the fourth floor. The bathroom is tiny and unfortunately the fan wasn't working in our bathroom which meant that it was really difficult to see when showering! The bathroom seemed a little tired and grubby. As it was very warm we also had to sleep with the windows open and the street outside was extremely noisy, meaning that we didn't get much sleep! Breakfast was fine however there's not a lot of space in the breakfast room meaning that you may have to wait to have your breakfast - this meant that, as we had bus tickets for Disneyland, we missed our breakfast one morning which was a shame! Overall, this is an okay hotel in a helpful location.
If you’re looking for a centrally located hotel with quick access to public transport and restaurants(the Italian place across the street is a must try), then this hotel is for you! However, don’t choose this place if you are looking to relax and chill out in your room all day because this is really a “quick stay” hotel… The rooms are nice and clean with an amazing view of the “Tour de Eiffel” [Eiffel tower] from the rooms balcony. We stayed in the family room and it was quite spacious however the bathroom was a bit small but it was fine compared to the European standards… I would recommend this hotel to families who want to have a place for couple of nights.
