A lovely friendly hotel. We had a deluxe suite for a family of four and it worked well. Location is excellent - lots of great places to eat nearby. Breakfast was truly superb with a great hot and cold selection which the kids and us all enjoyed. Would certainly stay there again. Staff were very friendly and nothing was any trouble. Made a weekend city break very easy and in strolling distance of gare du nord.

This has been second time I stayed at this charming boutique style hotel in the area of Grand Boulevards in Paris and I couldn't wish for a better place to stay in Paris. The whole hotel is a good example of French Art Nouveau, the rooms although being a bit small are very functional and beautifully decorated with all amenities needed for a relaxing stay after the full day exploration of the best city in the World. The breakfast is also a kind of French style and quite sufficient, though a bit lacking of hot dishes. However, the most valuable asset of this hotel is its staff always friendly and willing to help. All in all, it is one of the best hotels in Paris in its range.

Great hotel. Friendly courteous staff. Lovely room with comfortable bed, spacious bathroom with nice shower and clarins soaps and shampoo. Would definitely stay here again. Also, convenient location to shopping and Gare du Nord.

I like to go to L'Echiquier first for the Breakfast buffet and the decoration in the dining room. I usually spend easily half a day working there and getting meetings when I pass by Paris. The place is bright and service is great! The room is maybe a bit small but perfectly equipped and well designed! It's very close to the metro Bonne Nouvelle and there are a lot of little restaurants around to grab a bite at any time.

Comfy, quiet hotel in a good location. Room was small but well laid out. bed was very comfy and big. bedding was of a good quality and very clean. Pillows are ok .i dont like memory foam. cvurtains are ok but not a good blackout. shower is very good . Towels are ok good quality but a little small. there is a table to work at. there is a fridge. internet was ok. tea and coffee facilities are basic. breakfasr was quite good.not amazing but acceptable

This hotel is away from the busy center of Paris but the Metro is only one block away and just a few stops away from the center. It's in a great location, as there are plenty of restaurants and shopping near the Metro entrance. The room was clean and well decorated. My wife still thinks I'm nuts because I was like a kid whenever we used the elevator, which was a unique design. Maybe it's the engineer in me - nah, I'll just admit that I'm a little strange... Next time in Paris, we're staying here.

Until visiting this hotel, I had a very high opinion of Sofitel. I have stayed in their hotels in several different cities across France and always look forward to the experience. This hotel is not in a nice location. While this is not the hotel's fault it does have an impact on the experience of staying here. At night the side streets that take you to the hotel have a very rough and unpleasant atmosphere and even with my husband I did not feel safe. During the day, a man came running out of one of the neighbouring buildings in a disturbed and threatening manner. We had to walk past piles of discarded furniture that lay in the street for days and which blocked the pavement. We booked a superior room but when we arrived we were given room 115 which looks exactly like the picture of the standard room. I have asked for a floor plan to show the size of this room but the hotel have as yet failed to provide me with one but have said that the room I was given was a superior room. Advice then is ignore the photos because this isn't what you'll get. Very poor and possibly illegal if you ask my opinion. The toilet seat in the bathroom constantly fell down if you lifted it. The bed was uncomfortable. When it rained outside, there was a very loud noise possibly due to guttering that needed replaced. The mini bar has no alcohol, only two bottles of water. The selection of food available to eat at the hotel is very limited. We had a burger which was excellent but on another evening we had the soup with had lumps of barley or potato skin even though it was a smooth soup. We order a Hendricks and were given it without tonic. The bar was infrequently staffed and there was no atmosphere as few guests used it, possibly due to the limited choice available for food. Attention to detail is poor throughout the hotel. The carpets have lines that have been laid incorrectly so thy wiggly instead of going straight, for example. In the room there is sexist material that suggests the hotel has been inspired by women to offer beauty products and rooms near to elevators. Apparently men in Paris do not need to feel safe? Or need beauty products? We passed police women in the streets with machine guns. I wonder if the hotel is aware that not all women are the same and neither are men? A small aside that had the other issues not happened I wouldn't have mentioned. The room was still being cleaned one day when we returned at 5pm even though we had been out since 9am. The maid saw us return and gave us a towel, telling us that she had finished. 20 minutes later, a maid rang the bell and then disappeared across the hall to hoover another room. Presumably they still hadn't finished? The breakfast is limited. Don't expect to see any vegetables unless you want beans. The staff don't greet you but one morning on our last day at the hotel, having ignored us all week, we were asked to move even though the breakfast room we very quiet. I contacted the hotel on my return and I didn't receive a response despite getting in touch three times. The only reason they eventually responded was because I said I was going to notify my credit card company that they had provided me with a standard room and not a superior. I was told that they would not my comments and take care of me next time we go. I'm afraid if standards have fallen so far in Sofitel it will be a long time before I pay for a stay again. There are other hotels that provide better service in nicer locations that actually know how to host a guest. The staff at the reception were very nice. It's a shame the rest of the hotel doesn't match their level of service.

My second stay in this delightful hotel, exactly one year after my previous sojourn there. I visit Paris at least once a year and have done for the last 45 years and I am so pleased to have found this superb hotel. The welcome is very warm and check in very efficient. The room itself is perfectly designed with comfort in mind and the shower (with Clarins products) first rate. The hotel staff are always polite and ready to greet one as you exit or enter and keen to help with advice if needed. The location is excellent, just off the main boulevard and close to Metro stations and bus stops - an easy walk from and to Gare du Nord. Wide choice of eating establishments nearby. I look forward to staying here next year!

I stayed here for a birthday weekend and could not have asked for a better stay. All the staff were so welcoming and friendly from the reception to the bar, we really felt like they were happy to help. The room was a very good size and, as others have mentioned, the minibar and Clarins products were much appreciated. The bathroom was quite large and there were nice bathrobes and slippers to use. I also liked the environmental focus of the linens and not ending up with half used tiny toiletry products! The best part though was the view from our room (617), which looked over the rooftops of Paris and onto the Sacre Coeur Basilica in the distance - absolutely beautiful, really made our stay extra special. The location is ideal for the Eurostar/Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. It is close to the Bonne Nouvelle metro, although we preferred to walk (it was only 20mins to the Louvre). We liked being a little bit outside the main tourist centre, as there were more small, local restaurants and bars in all directions. In short, would highly recommend and look forward to returning soon!

I stayed her while on a short weekend break for my birthday. The location is so so, it's not the worst but it's also not a tourist haven although the check-in attendant did say it was a "safe" area. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, very clean and inviting. The room is what you would expect for a city hotel, not overly huge but more than adequate for a short break and better than some other hotels I've stayed in in Paris for the same price. I would stay here again as the value for money is fantastic and the staff are faultless in their efforts to help with whatever you need.It is also only 5-7mins in a taxi from the station so if your Eurostar arrives late at night you won't be far from their comfy beds.
