Hôtel Des Grands Hommes3.0 out of 5.0

This is our second time staying at Hotel des Grands Hommes, located directly across from the Pantheon. Both times, we sprang for the larger room overlooking the portico of the Pantheon. The extra space and the couch, as well as the view, were well worth the cost. One highlight, not to be missed, is the exquisite breakfast room in the basement, a beautiful space overseen by a wonderfully efficient woman who manages the tables with aplomb. The "standard" breakfast is 14 euros, but, even though it's not clear from the room menus, you can order a la carte, and I discovered the egg and cheese omelette, a baked concoction that was absolutely delicious (and only 7 euros): it became my go-to breakfast during this stay. The hotel is happy to deliver breakfasts to your room, but I'd recommend getting dressed and taking the elevator to the very welcoming basement room, where guests often chat across tables. The hotel has a small bar with high-quality wine and spirits, and they love to deliver glasses to your room on a tray with some complimentary nuts--it's hard not to make a nightly habit of this. The hotel has the feel of a stately old boutique place, and you are steps from some of the best restaurants in Paris, not to mention a five-minute walk to the Luxembourg Gardens, where we began and ended each day in Paris. This has become one of our favorite hotels in the world--a cut or two this side of luxurious, but just enough pampering to make it extremely comfortable without being in the least intimidating. And--during one of the hottest weeks in Paris--the air conditioning performed perfectly, and the beds were as comfortable as beds get (and the room was quiet, despite its proximity to the Pantheon, and the free wi-fi reliable). Oh, and it's in the building where Andre Breton invented surrealism . . .
Typical Paris room in terms of size - but the bathroom was great and the balcony was what made it worth it for us. If you can - get a balcony, the view of the Pantheon Square is breathtaking and we spent a lot of time hanging out with wine or having breakfast up there in the mornings. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Had a great stay. Hotel is very well located, across the street from the Pantheon, two blocks from Metro, and near many good restaurants. Room was very comfortable and quiet, and staff were approachable, friendly, and extremely competent. Breakfast was very good but a little pricey.
The hotel is in a great area and has a nice boutique hotel near the Pantheon. However, the wifi was lousy, the room was painfully small and we found it difficult to maneuver cases. The classic rooms on the internet was not the room we had. No plug in the bathroom was a nuisance. Also, the shower door was a partial, making the floor wet every time and we would have to use our towels to soak it up. Also, if you wanted to iron your clothes you had to request them to set up the iron and board in the lower level below the lobby. The positives as mentioned are great location and nice and clean.
Our experience at this hotel was great. Very close to lots of great food and night life. Easy walk downhill to get to Notre Dame and tourist stuff. Close to 2 metro stations and since you are right next to the Pantheon so some of the hop-on buses come through as well. The air conditioning in our rooms worked very well and it was warming up so we really appreciated that. We actually stayed here twice during our visit due to the way our trip logistics worked out. The first time we had an inner room (no view) and it was great. It had a window to an inside courtyard but it was very quiet! Wonderful silence to recover from jet lag. Rooms are small like most european hotels but well laid out and clean. The second time we wanted the view room and it was also great. We loved watching the tourists and locals hanging out at the Pantheon. The view room was not as quiet but had a fun quality that allowed us to enjoy Paris life. During both visits the staff were exceptional. I have rarely stayed in small hotels that are this well run. They were all organized and considerate of all our weird requests including storing some luggage between the two stays. If I go to Paris again this will be my first choice!
We stayed in a lovely room on the 4th floor. It had all of the things we look for in a room - comfortable bed, good shower, quiet aircon. There is a little traffic noise from outside but it was worth it for the excellent view of the Pantheon. I would recommend that you check when booking breakfast as the "Assiette Gourmand" or "Hearty Breakfast" does not include any drinks which came as a surprise. We changed to another breakfast which the hotel organised without any problem. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming as well as professional. Hotel is highly recommended!
We loved our stay at HGH. The rooms are charming and immaculately clean, with comfortable beds and black out curtains. A delicious continental breakfast is delivered to your room every morning, and you can enjoy a quiet drink downstairs in the lounge in the evenings. The hotel is located in a charming part of Paris, within walking distance to countless restaurants, cafes, boulangeries, and providers on Rue Mouffetard. Our room had a spectacular view of the Pantheon, and the spaciousness of the surrounding squares left us feeling that we were returning to a tranquil part of Paris after a hectic day of sightseeing. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and very polite. I would highly recommend this hotel, and look forward to returning in the future.
Lovely hotel with superlative staff and lovely view! We were overwhelmed with how helpful and pleasant the staff was! We were able to order our breakfast in our room with the view overlooking the Pantheon and the woman who came to our door was a real charmer...bon vivant! The hotel staff in general was amazing and even though our room size was small (after all this is Paris) every immaculate and artistic touch was amazing! We hope to come back next year. Merci!!!!!
This is our second time staying at this well located left bank hotel. Staff are always helpful and we were upgraded because we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary to a room with a direct view of the Pantheon. Tip, book in advance for their special pricing.
My husband and I recently stayed at L'hotel des grands hommes and had the best time every. The location of the hotel is great! I was pleasantly surprised that we could take the subway directly from Gare du Nord to the hotel. Only 3 stops and max 15 minutes. The staff is awesome and Mathieu was very nice and always there to answer our questions. The breakfast was a real treat and the rooms are gorgeous! I can't wait to be back! Thank you!
