I am almost ashamed to be from the UK having read the last UK review about this place, with which I totally disagree. I suggest the authors stick to Europe and nowhere else but Relais and Chateaux. The Casa Palopo is good; the rooms comfortable and clean, the swimming pool excellent and heated, and the lake views entrancing, especially at sunset. The staff were charming and attentive and to describe the local village as a dump suggests that such people shouldn't have been in Guatemala in the first place. A car is necessary to explore the area, but there is much to be gained from just relaxing and reading a bit about Guatemalan history
We’ve travelled far and wide to lakes in Italy and beyond but if you’re looking for the most wonderful lake with Mayan traditions and an energy unmatched then come visit this spot on lake Atitlan. Love
To celebrate my mom's 70th birthday we wanted to stay at a place that we would all enjoy, our family including my 11 year old daughter 12 year old son, two nephews mid twenties, my sister & brother in law, mom and dad. Casa Palopo was the perfect choice, we had four wonderful days. The service and attention went beyond expectations, Carmen the hotel manager and her team are the best. Her recommendations on activities were a perfect, lunch at El Artesano at San Juan La Laguna is a must, zip lining in San Buenaventura is breathtaking, and jumping from a 35 ft cliff was exhilarating. The villa at Casa Palopo was perfect, three rooms, pool, jacuzzi, sun deck, living and dining room and each and every one with the most wonderful views of the lake and volcanoes. And finally but not least, the chilaquiles with sausage and french toast for breakfast are a must! Thank you Casa Palopo!
A friend recommended Casa Palopo to me, and it was the best! I stayed for three nights and was so sad to leave. Carmen and her team out do themselves to make guests feel welcomed and comfortable to enjoy their stay. They arranged transportation for me - both from the airport to Casa Palopo and to a hotel in Antigua, after my stay. Wilson, my driver, was great - always checking in on the temperature of the auto, the speed he was driving, if I needed to stop, etc. Casa Palopo also arranged a private boat tour for me - I loved visiting San Juan. Santiago was an interesting stop, but not as quaint as San Juan. The food and drinks were delicious - I ate almost every meal at Casa Palopo. I loved how when I was enjoying the lake views during my meal, my room would either be cleaned/made up for the day or prepared for the evening with the shades drawn and the bed turned down. One afternoon, the power went out for a few hours and the staff had candles spread throughout my room to ensure there would be light as the sunset. It was truly magical looking! I love the hotel's aim to be sustainable - from providing filtered water in a reusable carafe in the room to using stainless steel straws with drinks. A great next step might be to switch from small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion to larger bottles that can be refilled.
Fantastic Dinner and great Cocktails. We went twice once for lunch and once for dinner. They have a different menu for each. Salads are exquisite, Ravioli was Made from scratch, tomatoe sauce tastes so good. All ingredients are local, and all dishes have a Guatemalan twist. Being here for 2 days , we realized the food was not going to be as good anywhere else thats why we went twice. Both waiters were excelent.
Came over for breakfast, 7 adults and 1 kid 6 years old. You would have thought we were bringing a plague. They would not let us in because kids under 10 are not welcomed. There are plenty of other option available in the area don’t waste your time getting there since is out of the way anyway. Well done!
Great stay, beautiful hotel, amazing and caring staff....Very well located, you dont really need to get out much. Its perfect for relaxing. Views of Sun rise and sunset are just amazing. Great restaurant quality.
This was an amazing hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The views are beyond beautiful, gorgeous property, clean rooms and very delicious food. Carmen, the manager, went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. She was incredibly helpful with our specific travel questions. The front desk staff and wait staff were also excellent. The nearby town of Santa Catarina was very charming . Do not hesitate! Book this hotel. It’s a once in a lifetime view and experience ........
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Palopó. We were able to relax and take some amazing pictures. The scenery from the pool is amazing! The service from the staff was excellent and the rooms so comfortable.
Casa Palopo is the most luxurious hotel on Lake Atitlan hands down. The most beautiful views I've ever seen up against Positano and Santorini!! The lake is just stunning from the villa infinity pool. Nothing like it. This hotel really puts Guatemala on the map! Just gorgeous. Incredible service!! Michelin star chef food and great drinks. The breakfast is so memorable and the ambiance for dinner is sultry. A hidden gem! I love this place and I haven't stopped talking about it since I left! I will return!
