It was really a disappointment to know that a reputable hotel chain like Copthorne would provide such service. Checked in for 2 night's stay and things went well for the first night. Went out on the second day and returned only to find that the heater, as well as the refrigerator in the room were not working. Called the receptionist and was told that they would send someone to check while we went out for dinner. When we returned, nothing was done to improve the situation. We had to call the receptionist again only to be told that someone went down to take a look, and even though they acknowledged the issues, there was nothing they could do about it. We were only provided another room when we requested for it.
This is an older hotel that has been added to and refurbished. The room we stayed in was nicely re-decorated and spacious. The room did not have air-conditioning, which did concern me as it was very hot out. The windows do open and we did have a fan. While it was warm, it wasn't horrible. We were treated to unlimited WiFi which we found out isn't standard in New Zealand. The hotel is located close to town and decent restaurants. We had the breakfast package included in our stay. There was a decent selection of hot and continental foods and we were treated to a REAL latte and cappuccino since the automatic machine was broken.
Maybe I just don't stay in fancy hotels often, but I was really impressed with the Copthorne. The rooms were spacious, and well furnished with large beds, a large TV, and a large shower. The best things about the Copthorn though has to be the location, less than 2 minutes walk to the liquor store, 5 minutes to the center of town, and yet all at a reasonable price. This will definitely be my first choice in Palmy again. They also have 24-hour room service, free gym and laundry, and everything else you'd expect from a top-end hotel at a mid-range price.
We had a wonderful stay at the Copthorne for our anniversary. We were treated with warmth by every team member we encountered, and lucky for us we received a complimentary upgrade, which was very much appreciated. The trip was a surprise for my partner and this topped it off. The junior suite 607 is a luxury apartment that we would quite comfortably live in. It is spacious, modern, bright and fresh. The lobby, bar and restaurant look great too, though we didn’t get a chance to try them. I completely recommend this hotel and will be staying here every time we are in the city.
We last stayed here in 2013. Then it was very tired and overall was not that good. We read reviews and it said that it had been refurbished so we decided to try it again. It was a warm day in Palmerston North when we checked in and on entering the very warm room noticed a fan. When asked where the air conditioning was we were told that they are still waiting to get that done. Rubbish. The were no air con units on the wall and no obvious points of ducting vets. When we questioned lobby staff they said they had many complaints from guests and that they were trying to negotiate with an air con company to get some installed. Again , that is rubbish. We were supposed to stay for two nights minimum but booked out after the first night as the room was too stifling to sleep well in. I do not think we were the only ones. There were other disgruntled guests in the lobby waiting to check out. Avoid this place if you can.
We stayed here for 1 night and booked a Junior Suite with a King bed. We had room #507 which was a lovely room. There was a really large living area with sliding doors out to the balcony. Not much of a view but we could see the surrounding “down town”. There was a small kitchenette, no cooking facilities but there was a microwave. Then the bedroom was also a good size, it too had large windows. Bathroom was internal with no natural light but a good size and a decent size spa bath. The only problem for us was the fact there was no air conditioning in the rooms. It was a really warm day and thankfully housekeeping had put two fans in our room and had them going when we checked in, so that did help. Thankfully we could open the windows and doors which also provided a breeze and helped keep the room cool at night. There was a lovely in-house restaurant although we chose to eat out and the bar area was also very pleasant. Really large car park with easy and free access. It was a short walk to shops, restaurants and bars. Overall I would recommend although be wary if it’s really hot weather as the whole hotel was warmer than you’d expect.
We were in room 108 which was a 1960's old motel room. Bathroom was really dated. There was no heat pump in the room only fans which were not sufficient for the heat The beds were very comfortable but it was a reasonable price for one night
The hotel is central and that's about the only thing it's got going for it. The rooms are very tired and the net curtain in the room I was in was torn to shreds, like they'd had cats fighting on them. They'd have been better to remove the net curtains than present such an awful look. The bathroom vent looks like it hadn't been cleaned in many months.
I prefer to stay at the Copthorne Hotel when in Palmerston North - I know exactly what i would get, and it is generally quite a good value for money option. The additional plus is the restaurant downstairs - it is good for a dinner after a long busy day with a rather good quality of food and drinks. The breakfast, however, is a rather mid-range; nothing really to remember.
We enjoyed our experience here.We were politely welcomed on 20th February and allocated room 315. The bed was really comfortable however we were woken by industrial noises quite early the following morning. We dined in Jackies Kitchen during the evening and enjoyed the food and drinks there. Service was good.
