I was there for a conference and it was nice to find what looks like a chain hotel being a bit different. A warm welcome and comfy rooms especially the beds. Everywhere was nicely finished with nice touches such as the hotel cat who was very accommodating of all those who wanted to stroke him. Dinner was part of the conference but was good for the numbers being catered for.
Lovely hotel located in it's own extensive grounds on banks of the river. Reception staff excellent and hotel extremely clean. Didn't manage to eat in hotel due to late night arrival and early departure, but menu looked varied and reasonable. Wouldn't hestitate to revisit or recommend
We were a party of six coming together for a weekend catch up. The hotel building and location were very good and located just a taxi drive away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford centre. Our bedrooms were excellent and well equipped. The bathrooms incorporated excellent showers. Sadly, our lunchtime sandwiches on our first day used very dry bread. Bar service was quite slow and unsmiling. Staff, apart from the good Reception team, were not quite up to a standard deserved by the hotel itself and the price of our stay.
We traveled around England for two weeks and stayed in several places. This was our favorite. The hotel is lovely, and the staff are very nice and helpful. The beds were very comfortable, we didn't want to leave them! The pool and spa area is really nice, too. We took a bus into town, which was also really easy (even with a wheelchair). I would not hesitate to recommend it!
I booked 2 rooms last minute in this hotel for our family of 4 requesting two king bedrooms. There was a bit of misunderstanding and we ended up in different category rooms (lower than what I had reserved for.) The person who checked us in was very nice and thorough, the person who checked us out the next day was really unpleasant... I told her that our rooms were different from what I booked for and I would not want to be charged King Room rate. She treated me as if I was making a crazy claim (I was not.) All was settled in the end but her attitude left me with a bad impression of the hotel. The hotel itself is charming albeit a bit sterile especially the breakfast room. Not special enough to return to.
We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. The swimming area is very nice and clean. Our bedroom over looking the garden was large, clean and very comfortable. Could not fault this hotel will definitely return.
Had the most amazing stay! Yen checked us in, told us all we needed to know, times of dinner, breakfast.etc she was very friendly and helpful. Dinner was amazing and we were served by Christian, very lovely gentleman, food was delicious. Room perfectly clean and stylish, love the huge shower head! Grounds gorgeous too. Will return :)
Where do I start! I thought I’d surprise my partner with a surprise birthday trip to Oxford having never been before. I let them know it was his birthday and they made him feel special. Daniela checked us in, she ticked every box. Was kind, professional and lovely to speak to. She upgraded our room for us and made us aware of where everything was. The bedroom was beautiful. Bed was the comfiest and the best night sleep we’ve ever had. Thank you to the housekeepers for such great clean rooms. The restaurant in the evening was nice. Would’ve preferred to overlook the river in the separate restaurant but that seemed empty. Bizarre?! Food was amazing though and couldn’t fault it. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss but that’s okay, all places have their days and I competent understand that. Keep going guys you’re all doing a wonderful job. Thank you to ALL staff who made our stay amazing. Defiantly recommend and would love to come back. Rachel and Sam Room 42
I was happy with my service at checkin and a complimentary upgrade to my room and a thorough guide on the hotel amenities, good start I thought. The room was clean, a very good size and well presented with a view of the Thames; although, in a weird twist it was full of flies & insects (not 1 or 2, more like 10+). I then proceeded to order lunch at the bar; it took a few minutes to locate a member of staff; meanwhile, other members of staff looked on, mostly bemused by the fact that nobody was there, although offering no help themselves. The bar setting itself was impressive although it was full of tables covered in dirty plates and glasses so we were limited in where we could sit. The quality of the food, when it finally arrived was pretty good. During the early evening I then went to use the facilities of the pool and spa; whilst the pool itself was a nice relaxing surrounding, it was a shame once again to see the state of neglect. The area was well staffed; although, nothing was done to clear away leftover towels, leaving nowhere to sit, as for the state of the changing room, it was completely filthy and the pungent smell made me spend as little time as possible and taking a shower was completely out of the question, I was shocked at how awful this was and showered in my room. I also dined at the hotel restaurant after the spa; it was difficult to book since when I enquired at the restaurant previously they couldn’t give me a straight answer on when they closed so I had to double check this. The service started off at average but by the end of the evening things got weird; we witnessed a waiter drinking from a water jug which had been left at a table as he cleaned up, and by the time I ordered dessert it seemed like a big ask and when it was actually served, it was explained that it was different to what I had ordered and also covered in something I hadn’t asked for, which he later told me contained allergens that I couldn’t eat and took it away again 5 seconds later... Understandably After this, I decided that I needed a drink, only to find the bar closed; however, I was told by another guest that drinks were still being served if ordered at reception, this again was bizarre and not obvious but admittedly the service was good. In the morning the service at breakfast was average; I was not offered anything but when I asked to make an order, they did deliver although, they did clear the table whilst I was getting more food and then had no plate or cutlery to eat from. The final twist was check out; I settled my tab from the night before and as I was setting off towards the exit I was called back to reception to ask if I was willing to pay for my ‘complimentary’ upgrade. This sounded ridiculous but from past experience I wasn’t surprised either, I responded with awkward laughter before explaining that this was offered “complimentary” and as I was already leaving so I would not be getting my wallet out again, in response she told me, “this is fine, I’ll sort it” which was even more bizarre at best. Overall this hotel does have great potential in its idyllic surroundings and beautiful buildings; however, I would not recommend this to anybody on the basis that the staff here would have driven me insane had I had to endure anymore time here. Apart from Daniela and the night time duty manager, there are a lot of people working here who do no favours for the Voco brand, I believe that IHG need to heavily invest in personnel at this hotel as it is the worst experience of any IHG branded hotel I have stayed in and for me personally has damaged their reputation as a group as it does not offer the high standards which I have come to expect from them in other locations.
The visit started well with Daniella and Yen on the front desk welcoming us warmly. They are great ambassadors for the property and always willing to help with arrangements, queries etc. After check-in, the no-lift traipse down corridors and up stairs wasn't ideal but it wasn't long either. Our balcony room was spacious, the bed extremely comfortable and the plasma screen, a good size. The bathroom was on the smallish size and the shower not easy to decipher, but we eventually got the hang of it. After unpacking, we went down to the bar, where its young staff were charming and the light bite we ordered - butternut squash soup with bread - was truly perfect (and I've made and had many a butternut squash soup in my time, believe me!). The next morning, the breakfast buffet was good and plentiful - cooked and/or Continental, both offered. It does indeed have the feel of a convention hotel with a spa and pool/gym attached, but it's much better value than the hotels in Oxford itself. A £10 taxi ride got us into Central Oxford, without the hassle of driving there ourselves and a further £10 ride got us back. We will return to the property on future visits to the Dreaming Spires.
