Stayed for 3 nights. PROS: -Good location if you want to stay in the middle of action. Place feels dull though in the morning. -Spaceous room with good amenities. Dolce gusto coffee maker instead of Nespresso is still OK. -Bath had extensive toiletry supply. -Free handyphone which was useful for navigation and quick search. CONS -Lobby, elevator, entrance had permanent smoke odor. Conclusion: Solid option but smoky atmosphere makes this place less ideal for families.
Stayed 4 nights in April 2018 with my small family of 5 and had a comfortable stay. Lobby is on the 3rd floor and staff spoke good English. Elevators and lobby smelled great, not like the smoke that others have complained about in the past, so the hotel really listens to customers reviews and made positive change. The room we stayed in had direct access to the fountain and the kids loved that they can hang out there in the morning before going out for the day's adventures. The room was also very spacious and big, which is a huge plus! The amenities and toilet were just fantastic. We made use of the hotel's complimentary mobile phone so that we had data service while exploring the city, making navigating easier. There is also coin operated laundry rooms on 3 floors, so that our little family didn't run out of clean clothing. Sleep was great, beds were soft and the room was quiet enough that we couldn't believe we were in the middle of busy Namba area! There is also so much food and shopping surrounding the hotel. Overall, I had a great hotel experience with Namba Oriental Hotel and would definitely stay there again!.
The hotel has very convenient location - close to the railways going around town and to the airport express, restaurants are also just a step away so you don't have a problem when you're starving. Glico man is also walking distance.
This is my second time to stay in the hotel. The location is excellent and very near the train station. There are plenty of restaurants around the area and very near the shopping area. Will stay again in this hotel.
Stayed here with my family and 2 things impressed me immediately. A cellphone with unlimited local calls with free internet, which makes it much easier navigating and finding the stores you want in the busy district. Whether it’s a store, food, directions for subway, this really helped. And did I mention it’s FREE to use. The other is clean pajamas for every bed. Even if not necessary, it’s something different and appreciated. Bit on the old side, little dirty under the couch, darkish lobby but nice clean bathrooms and comfy beds with a quiet ambiance and helpful staff. Will stay with them again for sure.
Hotel has a great location right in the heart of Namba: can access Red or Pink subway lines within minutes. Closest entry is Namba Walk exit B21. Hoshino Coffee next door with great hand-drip coffee and souffle pancakes. Lawson and McDonald's on the other side. Quick walk to Dotonbori or Kuramon market etc. Room was compact, but functional. e.g. headboard has lights and multiple outlets for charging/storing your phone. Beds were a little narrow, especially if you're sharing with a child (close to twin size -- would have preferred at least a double). Hotel provides "Handy" smartphone for you to use when you're out. Nice for checking maps though we found the interface takes a little getting used to (it's not quite Android). WiFi in our room on 7th floor was spotty in the evenings, probably due to volume. We also rented a crib for our baby. 1000Y/night. They provided sheets and blanket and no issue with extra towels. Our room was not in the newly renovated section, but we found it still to be clean and well-kept. A few cons: - minor sewage smell from the drain in the washroom. Cleaning staff tried to air out the room, but it kept coming back. - can't control the in-room temperature. (They mention this in a letter in your room). They blast the heat in the mornings (24degC), which we found uncomfortable. - can't get taxi access directly to the hotel since it's located inside an arcade Some of the other reviews mentioned smoke smell in the elevator. I think they were referring to the 1st elevator (from outside to reception) which picks up smoke from Pachinko on the basement floor. Can't really do much about that.. The main hotel elevator (that takes you to rooms) had no issue with smoke. Overall, would definitely stay here again if visiting Osaka.
So, a colleague asked me, do you here write a positive comment about hotels. Look at my profile and you will see I do!.....but the Namba Oriental hotel was horrendous! Paid for an extra night so I could check in early (0600). Checked in showered came back and they didn’t clean the room. How do I pay for a hotel room and not cleaned at all....Charged me tax that I had already paid for..... and the product is old and worn out! They need to appreciate the customer and not the almighty yen! Learn to provide a non manual only service and accommodate to the consumer. To the management.....your team needs some training.
Traveled with family, 1 yr old baby girl and an 8 yr old boy. I think choosing Namba Oriental Hotel is the only plans I've made that works to get through our deviated plans throughout our 12 days stay in Osaka. I have planned to go USJ, Kyoto, Osaka Castle, and even a day trip to Hiroshima as the hotel is so close to the transportation. But no, baby girl tends to poo poo right before we step out of our hotel room. Our boy will go grumpy and insist to go shopping. Both will take 2 hours to mobilize and we also have to wash baby bottles and poo poo smelly clothes. My sightseeing plans have to scrapped completely and move on to Plan B and this is where the hotel's location works. Walking distance to Den Den Town, American Town, Namba Walk, Namba Parks, Shinsaibashi, Takashimaya, and of course, Sennichimae, and lots more it's like a shopping jungle. There is a shop that teaches kids and adults to do fake display sushi etc called Design Pocket, Portrait store that do drawings for kids and family all within 1 minute walk from hotel. Tons of restaurants and street food everywhere and our favorite toys shops - Mandarake, Book-off, Jungle etc. Back to the hotel itself. The rooms are bigger than the average hotels around the same price point. we've stayed on 8th floor, window facing the city, it's only 9 floor tall building so you don't get to see a great deal but good enough. Water is strong and hot enough. beds are nice and comfortable. Not much channels to choose from on the TV but we didn't care. We've used our own WIFI egg but there is a free WIFI offer. They also provide a free internet mobile thingy for you to take out but we didn't try that as we might loss it considering we have 2 kids to take care of. The lobby doesn't smell of cigarette as they have some air purify machine running 24/7. We didn't do the breakfast as it's rather expensive and no where near as exciting as just walk outside and try one of many udon restaurants / Maccas etc. We did try a shabu shabu restaurant called Nagi which was heavily advertised in the hotel leaflets and was very disappointed. Overall we will pick this hotel again as we can simply go around shopping, walk back to hotel put our bags down and go out again for dinner. beats taking your luggage around and when you have kids, you really need a hotel nearby to take a rest as it's very exhausted. They even helped us to book a huge 7 seater at the end of our trip to the airport, cost 22,000 yen but since we have done way too much shopping (4 luggage 3 boxes full of toys etc) it's worth it. they even have their staff to help taking our luggage to the back of the hotel. Yeah, will do it again. Price is reasonable considering if we were to stay at luxury hotel the cost would be this accommodation plus our shopping expenses.
We found this hotel to be clean, quiet and so central. There are many good restaurants within walking distance and a very easy walk to the train as well. A great start to our first time in Osaka. I would highly recommend staying here.
Centrally located in the heart of Namba with so many dining options within a stone's throw away. Transport is within easy reach from Namba station, just make sure that you take note of the escalator/elevator if you have luggage as not all station exits have these. Air-conditioning cannot be controlled and we've ended up opening the windows, can get quite chilly at night if you forget to close them. Breakfast is additional and can get quite pricey. As you are in the heart of Namba, it can get quite tricky if you decide to have dinner at one of the local restaurants due to the sheer volume of people.
