I went as a solo traveller, not great transport links. No poolside service. The staff although friendly had issues with the English language, that got a bit frustrating. The hotel needs updating including the rooms, the beds need changing as I found them uncomfortable. The beach is a short walk and is clean there is also a children’s park very close for families. The food has lots of variety but not many vegetarian options.
Wehave spent few days at the resort; booked premium room, sea view with lounge acces including breakfast. Room, as the whole hotel, are slowly aging, but nothing wrong with this. As well the lounge offerings were good, with excellent service as such; however the understanding in E was a bit of a challenge. But there is unfortunately not much more positive to report. Beach: would be nice to use, but everywhere are signs : NO SWIMM !!!!!!Only permited swimming area is of the size of children pool, with respetive depth!! Pool: hotel outside pool is open for use 0900-1700 !!! Very difficult to understand and cope with it. What to do if you book a beach hotel and you can not use the beach and pool with more than strange opening hours. So NO, we will not go back!!!To far to travel for such a disappointment, Should we have known about it, we would not book the hotel. Furthermore there is no public transport around and the closest shopping/food oportunity is ca 25 min walk. Without car you are lost; and remember - you can not rent a car without having japanese translation of your driving license.
Wasn’t sure what to expect in Okinawa. The area is very Industrial. You have to catch a taxi to get to restaurants. Beach is nothing spectacular. I wouldn’t swim here even though they had no swimming signs due to jellyfish. I don’t understand the attraction to this hotel. Seems like large tour groups that load up and head out somewhere else during the day.
The hotel is superb. Very clean, comfortable. Has a lovely indoor pool. Just a short walk across the street to the beach. Breakfast is the Best I Have ever had. So much choice of food. Small play room for children, Okey for rainy days. Staff very profesional and helpfull.
The views are spectacular at this Hotel from the balcony, however the rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment and needs attention to cleaning standards for a 4* Hotel. We had the bbq food one evening which was fantastic, food was good quality. A very big downfall is breakfast.. every morning we had to queue and wait even during mid week. We only stayed for 3 nights.. I’m not too sure I could have stayed for longer. On a very positive note the staff are friendly and welcoming.
Husband and I stayed for 4 nights for birthday celebration. The location was quite far so it was ideal for tourists w/ a car, parking was quite far so be prepared for a few mins walk or drop off heavy items at the main entrance before parking your car. Service and buffet breakfast were great, facilities in the room were all super clean and user friendly. Buffet breakfast was tasty with super long queue in the morning. Nice souvenir shop at the lobby. Highly recommended for honeymoon or family trip👍🏻
The Southern Beach Hotel is exactly what the name promises. A nice beach hotel. On top of direct beach access (semi public beach), there are several pools (indoor and outdoor). Check in was done in the club lounge as we booked club rooms. The staff speaks very little English and caters mostly to Chinese, Japanese and Koreans. They however try hard to make you understand everything. The rooms were good, clean but not spectacular. I have to recommend everyone to book sea view rooms. The hotel looks at a beautiful beach on one side and at a ship yard on the other side... very big difference. The amenities should be mentioned, they were noteworthy. You even get a tongue cleanser and a bubble bath - as well as beach shoes. For breakfast you can choose from 3 different restaurants if you are on the club level. There is the very crowded big buffet restaurant with good variety of foods. Then there is a set breakfast menu in the second restaurant. Additionally you can have breakfast in the lounge with very limited choices. The club lounge itself is quite good. For most of the day, you find snacks and drinks. Alcoholic beverages are served from the afternoon until late at night (10 or 11pm). It’s convenient because there isn’t much around the hotel to choose from and the hotel restaurants are rather expensive. I would therefore also choose the club room again. One aspect that annoyed me: the pool opening hours. The outdoor pool opens at 9am. So you cannot have a quick swim before breakfast which I really enjoy. The indoor pool oddly only opens from 2pm onwards. I caught a light sunburn in Okinawa and therefore wanted to use the indoor pool... but I had to wait until 2pm until it opens. Why? All things considered, it’s a beach hotel in a convenient location close to the airport. Sea view is a must and club room is recommended.
I went to this hotel with very low expectations because of the criticisms in reviews on this site. Wrong! I enjoyed the stay very much. My room had a great view of the ocean. When you make your reservation, ask for the ocean-view, beach side. This hotel is NOT in the middle of nowhere. It’s near a lot of interesting places, shops, and markets (see below). When you first approach the hotel, you do drive through an industrial area. If that bothers you, don’t look. Wait for the pool, the ocean, the attractive comfortable rooms, the helpful staff, the fast elevators. There are NOT a lot of planes flying overhead. We were there for 3 days, 2 nights. I heard only 2 planes in all that time. We were three unrelated adult women staying in one room. At another hotel that we stayed at recently, the staff at the front desk refused to give us more than one room key. It was very inconvenient. At this place, when we made the same request, the staff gave us three keys, each in its own envelope, each envelope with one person’s meal tickets. No problem. The breakfast buffet had a big variety of items, with an emphasis on special Okinawa food, including bitter melon and special Okinawa tofu and seaweed. Signs next to each item explain in Japanese and English what the item is, including the main ingredients. The first morning we were there, our group had breakfast when the room opened at 6:30 a.m. Very few people were there at that time. The second morning, we were surprised when we showed up at 8:30 a.m. and found a long, long line. We waited (some of us browsing in the hotel’s shop) until 9:30, and the line had disappeared but, unfortunately, so had some of the food items. Go early! I didn’t deal with the travel agent who booked our group’s package, so I don’t know in detail what we paid for. What we found was that not only was the breakfast buffet included, the lunch buffet was too. The food items were somewhat different from at breakfast, and just as delicious. Within a few kilometers of the hotel, we found so many interesting places! There is a hotel with a fabulous public bath (Ryukyu Onsen Sengajima Hotel), a great farmers market (Umanchu Ichiba), an outlet mall, and an interesting izakaya (pub, Aji dokoro Inakaya). Not much farther (less than 15 minutes’ drive), there is the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, which includes a WWII-related museum, and Ryukyu Glass Village (which offers glass-blowing workshops and has a shop with items so beautiful it’s like being in a museum). Please read my reviews of those places. Nearby also is one of Majun’s shops. Majun are Okinawa-designed and –made, reasonably priced, very attractive clothes for men and women, using materials suitable for wearing in places with hot temperatures. If you don’t want to bother to drive to the Majun shop, the hotel’s shop has a selection of their goods, especially shirts for men and blouses for women.
Special thanks to Mr. 松本 and western staff (sorry, I can’t remember his name) whom are work on front desk and helped us arrange 1 night extension during typhoon.
We actually booked the regular room at first, and for the cheap price it was ‘ok’. But we were on vacation, and decided to do something crazy and upgrade to the Royal suite. And it blew our minds! Sooo fancy, so clean, the pictures really don’t do it justice. And the Premiere lounge was super nice! So take this review with a grain of salt if you’re used to staying in suites, and eating at Premiere lounges. This was our family’s first time, and it really seemed worth the money! But! We stayed there in the ‘off’ season. So we didn’t pay the Summer prices. It was almost half price of the summer prices. The pools were perfect! The indoor pool especially! It was raining the first day, and the indoor pool is clean and fun with a jacuzzi. We had stayed at The Hilton Chatan a few days before we got here, and the Hilton’s indoor pool is terrible! Dirty, and somehow lifeless... The outdoor pool was super fun! Beach is like 1 block away and also really nice! The sunset was unreal the first night! And the bar by the pool had all the classic tasty foods you’d want! The restaurant on 1F, Terrace something, was delicious! The atmosphere was really interesting as well. It’s like cheap mixed with high class together, and we really liked it! Banquet on the Lobby floor is a pass for us. Not worth it. Not up to the standards of the rest of the resort. But no worries, there’s plenty of other options! Staff was amazing! So friendly, and helpful! And the little store on the Lobby level is great! Has everything you’d need and is open till midnight! We’re coming back again for sure!
