This is a beautiful hotel in a stunning position on the South Cliff. We had booked direct for a basic room and were lucky to be upgraded. Our room on the 5th floor was spacious and well fitted out. We overlooked the rear of the hotel; sea views are available at extra cost. We enjoyed our 3 night break and the breakfasts were superb. Staff were very friendly in all parts on the hotel which we used and the food was excellent but unfortunately service for our evening meal was very poor the one night we eat in.
I stayed here for one night mid week. I was lively a wonderful large and airy room over looking the sea. Unfortunately it transpired that the room hadn't been cleaned much at all, and so I had to ask housekeeping to come and remove the 4 spiders that I found. All of the 3 windows were covered in cobwebs and the bath hadn't been cleaned in some time.. I had a very uninspiring meal in the Taste Restaurant with managed to be both expensive and tasteless. The continental breakfast wasn't much better. On a plus side, the staff were all lovely and very happy to help.
Hotel was very good service in the Taste Restaurant was absolutely abysmal large party on in next room so the diners in the other room were treated as if we were in the way. Took a long time to get any food to the table when we complained to the restaurant manager we were told we have a party in the next room by the time I had left some of the meal I ordered still had not arrived. Close the rest of the rooms if you are only concerned about the party or tell the diners service will be poor because you are busy. All in all very very disappointed with our treatment that night might be better on nights when no party is hogging the staff
Stayed here for one night, as we were going to a concert. I paid £157 for a room through Booking.Com, breakfast not included. The room was small, with a king size bed. It had tea and coffee making facilities . The view was looking onto the street. The bathroom had a shower over the bath. The receptionists were very efficient, helpful and friendly. I possibly could have had a bigger room with a nicer view if I had booked direct with the hotel. If I was in the area again, I would stay here .
We booked a 2 night stay here via Booking.com expecting their 'Comfort King' room. Walked in and first of all greeted with a boarded up window at the back of the property with nauseous smells from the kitchen and a filthy windowsill. There were further nauseous smells from the bathroom. The room was very small and dark. When We complained and were eventually shown other rooms we were invited to pay £10 or £20 per night to upgrade. We ventured down to the spa and politely asked to view the pool and were told that we couldn't as it would annoy other users unless we were going to use it there and then! Really? They advertise membership - we may have been a couple looking to join. We did sub-sequentially use the spa and it is as good as many other spas as I have used. The food in the restaurant is excellent. We ate there both nights - however, on the second night we ordered a bottle of white wine which, eventually (long wait), arrived warm. It was around £26 - way over what it was worth. We had finished our meal by the replacement arrived after we had send the original back so we declined to receive or pay for it. We felt sorry for Tom who looked after us that night as he was sooo polite and understood why we were disappointed. What a great asset to that business he is!!!! It was not his fault that this hotel do not keep the wines on their menu properly. Would we stay here again? No!
Overall this is poor value. Room OK but no wifi in room at all - and they charge after 2 hours even with £182 room only rate!!! Shower curtain and hard to control shower temp (it was too hot)! Thinks it is a premium hotel but it is not. Bar meal tapas was measly.
My partner and I stayed here 03/08/2017 for one night. Was a last minute booking so did not look at the hotel beforehand however we were not disappointed! Beautiful location and views. The hotel itself was spotless, the rooms were fantastic (loved the bathrooms). The main stand out from the hotel was the staff. Reception staff were pleasant and the bar staff are a credit to the hotel, I wish I got their names! I met 3 different bar staff that night and each one of them couldn't have been more helpful. Will definitely stay here again.
Very old and worn out Limited parking Rooms dirty Check the mattress and it was dirty The toilet was dirty The rest of the hotel was not up to my expectations In future I will look harder to find a better hotel Staff unhelpful
Fabulously located directly facing the sea on top of the cliffs overlooking Scarborough harbour area, this splendid Victorian building with majestic colonnades is accredited four star and has all necessary facilities. Scarborough is not quite as glorious a town as in its heyday but the Crown Spa is well maintained and well run. We had a Superior Double Room with Seaview which was modern and comfortable and of generous proportion with a balcony. The hotel’s wifi was very effective and easy to log in. Breakfast was comprehensive. Check-in was a little unusual with payment required for our two day stay upfront despite taking a credit card swipe. The last time my wife and I succumbed to this, we ended up with a truly dreadful room which bore no relationship to the brochure/website and so we asked to see the rooms first. We were informed that it was hotel policy not to allow us to inspect the rooms unaccompanied - even though one of us was sitting in the reception area with the luggage throughout. So this meant we had to wait for over 20 minutes for a porter to be available. It also gave us the feeling of a hotel not trusting it’s customers (nor presumably their credit card companies). We were only given one key card for our room making it difficult at times when my wife and I were doing different things. The hotel has a small car park with rather tight spaces with daily charge but free parking is available with disc on the surrounding streets if you can find space. After check in my wife and father in law both decided to take a nap following our long car journey but both were suddenly awoken by a receptionist calling to see if we were happy with our rooms - presumably we would have contacted reception if we weren’t. One gets the feeling there are perhaps many rules and regulations which staff are obliged to follow and which are not all in the best interests of guests. The first morning my wife headed to the hotel pool at basement level from our room on the first floor, by elevator, and discovered that the elevator would not travel there and had to be specially over-ridden by a receptionist as such a journey is strangely forbidden! At 8:00am the pool, which is quite small, was crammed with locals and it was virtually impossible to swim lengths. It seems the hotel’s spa and fitness facilities are used by local groups too. We arrived at breakfast to a gentleman barking a single word “name?” - his counterpart I noticed greeted people with the more pleasant form of address “good morning, may I have your name”. It seems that some of the staff need a little more training (the hotel has Investors in People Gold)! Our bathroom had a fan activated by motion detection which meant that every time one visited the bathroom it ran for a few minutes (even at night with the lights switched off) and was very noisy. We discovered that only one bath towel had been provided in a double room (a second was subsequently delivered to the room on request) and the towels were of the smallest size which could possibly be classified as a bath towel!
Have stayed at a lot of very nice hotels and this was one of the best. What made it stand out were the staff. Every one we came across couldnt do enough to help us enjoy our stay. Made it a v special stay. Well done Crown Spa
