Just one night to spend 2 days exploring the area, not expecting much more than a good bed & breakfast... However.. After a warm welcome by Liz on reception we had a small issue with the room offered (it was warm & the portable fan didn't work) and found that service really means service in THIS hotel. The duty manager (Steven) escorted my wife round offering various rooms until she settled on an excellent upgrade -- a family room. So - needless to say, 5 stars for the room (& Steven). We had dinner - I had fish pie & my beloved the lamb rump -- again 5 stars. Although Bouroughbridge is just a sleepy little town, it is certainly worth a stroll, especially down by the river near the weir. Our original reason for the visit - Newby hall, Fountains Abbey & Studley Water Gardens were well within reach & did not disappoint... So 5 stars all round!
Had a voucher for a leisure and afternoon tea here. I was really looking forward to exactly that, a leisure relaxing day, however there were not enough facilities to be at leisure. We were greeted with a warm welcome and then given a question pick your sandwich!!! (will get back to this later). The leisure area was clean but on entering the facilities and hoping to relax there was a huge lack of relaxing seating. 4 plastic garden chairs, most were taken up with other customers towels, fortunately the pool users saw we had gowns on and removed two towels so we could get a seat. Nowhere to put your feet up and be at leisure. Pool, sauna and steam room were clean. Change room area very cramped. We tried three lockers got one that worked eventually!! No swim suit dryer to dry costume. Moving on to afternoon tea... I have had afternoon tea at numerous places and you are supposed to get a selection of sandwiches and cakes. We were asked to pick ONE sandwich!!! I chose egg, my friend had beef and horseradish sauce, take it or leave it!! A selection of cakes is supposed to be given.... we had two, both sponge cakes, chocolate and something else, both very heavy didn,t eat either of them. We also had a scone with nice jam and a good size portion of cream. Have to say plenty of tea bags in the teapot, good tea!!! We also asked for another saucer for our cakes, this was met with bemusement???? why do you want another saucer? Let me tell you why!!!! Horseradish is savoury and spicy and mayonaise don,t really bode well with cream scones!!! If you can put some more relaxing seating around the pool and work on the afternoon tea selection this has the makings of a good place to visit.
I called here with a group of friends for a morning coffee. It was quiet but the staff looked after us very well and made us feel welcome. The lounge was super - nice and clean. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
4 couples stayed here for a weekend. The hotel is ideally located in Boroughbridge. Parking is plentiful. The pool and spa area are a welcome addition. The hotel is dated with lots of character. The staff are friendly and a special shout out to the manager Tracy who helped sort a transfer for us, into Ripon for the races. Breakfast freshly cooked and lots of it.
We had a special offer voucher for dinner, bed and breakfast and stopped here overnight (Thursday) on our way to Northumberland. We found this to be a delightful 3* character hotel. The bedrooms were average but very clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The general areas and restaurant were cosy and welcoming (as were all of the staff) and we enjoyed a delicious evening meal. Wouldn't be to the taste of those lovers of contemporary style but we loved the obvious history of the hotel. Didn't have time to use the spa but looked very nice. We think this is worthy of a return trip for a 3-day visit as it is so close to many of Yorkshire's attractions. Only drawback was lack of a lift for our elderly mother, so will try for a ground floor room in future.
As it was just an over night stay we didn't get chance to use the pool as it did look very inviting shame may be next time, nor did we use the restaurant as I found not much choice for a vegetarian limited( but at least you had some) but the breakfast was lovely and the staff very pleasant. Our room was clean and comfortable no 76 over looking a roof so no noise from outside. It is a lovely old building with some nice features.
A really nice friendly hotel. Great facilities, pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi next to the gym. Lovely food in the restaurant and polite friendly staff. About a 20 min drive to the park and ride in york where you can get into town for £2.90 return. Well worth a visit.
Stayed at the Crown Hotel for a family visit & a weekend break . Have stayed here twice before & have always had a nice stay , enjoyed the pool & breakfast has always been very nice the staff have always been helpfull & friendly & the room has been clean & just fine for our stay . The location of the Hotel is perfect for us as we av family in Boroughbrige & its a perfect base for sight seeing .
I always try to put a lot of thought into my reviews and have to admit that I was sorry to have to rate the hotel as average. Parking at rear of the hotel is good. Old type coaching inn so a bit like a rabbit warren but nothing wrong with that when you get your sense of direction. Passed the swimming pool on way in. Looked nice but didn't use it. Pleasant and efficient reception. Was given a large corner room with very battered sofa that I was surprised that any hotel would think acceptable. It was a warm night so attempted to open some windows only to find years of overpainting had permanently fixed most of them shut. Low ceiling didn't help temperature but not much can be done about that. Thankfully a fan was available which had to remain on all night. The large bed was comfortable. A couple of the lights didn't work. Remote did not adjust volume of TV. Little things that should be attended to. Altogether I felt that any decorating and maintenance was not of the highest standard. No issue with housekeeping however. Wifi was good. I thought the restaurant and bar rather uninspiring. Moved table because the music playing was a bit intrusive. I wasn't the only diner to find this as I saw the next person moving too. Found the younger waiting staff to be friendly although some of the older members seemed a bit dour. The meal itself was OK but nothing more. Breakfast was fine. Overall I was disappointed with my stay. I had higher hopes of what could have been. There is better in the area.
Excellent stay and service at this wonderful hotel, with our Travel Zoo deal. Tracey made us all feel very welcome on our arrival, she told us everything we needed to know about the hotel. The hotel was very comfortable well decorated and clean in all areas. The dining service and food excellent. All staff helpful, ensuring we all enjoyed our time at the Crown Hotel. This is a wonderful place and I would not hesitate to recommend or return. Thank you to all the staff, but especially Tracey. Great little hotel. The Blairs & The Hodgson party rooms 73 74
