Booked a one night stay with travel zoo. We were really pleased with everything from start to finish. Staff were great, really friendly and chatty. Room very comfortable. The hotel is well maintained and nothing was tired. There were lots of little areas within the hotel where you could sit boo relax. The pool area was spotlessly clean. Food was amazing we were completely stuffed! Great value we would definitely stay again and will highly recommend.
Like many other recent reviewers, we stayed at the Crown using the Travelzoo deal. We were so pleasantly surprised at how good the value was. Our room was lovely, clean and well finished; dinner and breakfast were excellent with ample choice and the pool and facilities were a real bonus. I disagree with reviewers saying the place feels tired, this is an ancient inn and though it may not have had a major refurbishment in some time, nothing felt shabby or out of date. My only two minor gripes were the lack of choice of whiskies in the bar; and the fact that the room was rather warm with no way to open the window. Would happily come back soon, and would hope for the same friendly service again.
We decided to go to York for our easter holiday and just had to return to the crown. We stayed here 5 years ago and after 5 years is still a superb hotel. Its in a nice location and near local attractions, the hotel has a safe and secure parking , always clean (the chambermaids do an excellent job) all the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is excellent and at high standards,we've stayed at a lot of places and I still think the crown does the best breakfast as there is a good choice of what to have in the morning. And they have great facilities (especially the spa /gym) our son loved the swimming pool and I used there gym and sauna rooms. Its nice they provide you a towel when using the swimming pool every time so you don't have to use your towel from your room and the lockers are free too . Definitely will be returning, thank you to all the staff at the crown hotel for yet another great stay ,keep up the good work guys.
The Crown in Boroughbridge is a very well managed and maintained coaching inn which is very good value for money. Didn't use the restaurant, other than for breakfast which was excellent, but will definitely stay there again next time we are in the area visiting Newby Hall and/or Fountains Abbey.
Came here for lunch and some business meetings, handy location just off the M1, hotel has parking and limited space for having meetings without kids and leisure club users standing around talking. The girl serving teas and coffees was excelllent and offered great service but the lady on reception was really unhelpful when we tried to pay so wouldn’t rush back
My daughter and i visited for the day on one of our Spa day trips. No treatments available so really just a chill out day by the pool. The changing facilities are very small and cramped many of the lockers didn't work. Staff upon arrival were friendly and told us what was available. The steam room is really lacking in steam but the pool and the Jacuzzi were excellent and we enjoyed both. Very little space around the pool area but we managed to sit in a couple of chairs poolside. Why is the water fountain in the reception? Poolside you are able to hydrate regularly and feel the benefits of washing those toxins away ... Towels were clean, substantial as were the robes, the slippers well they are just a hazard! We had a coffee mid morning but had to sit in a draughty entrance hall to drink it. Finally we get to afternoon tea ... a substantial trek through various lounges and bars to finally arrive in a deserted area where our afternoon tea was brought to us. This is supposed to be a yes at, beautifully presented, dainty ...special, it wasnt. Two big ugly sandwiches each leaking their contents across the plate. No trimmed crusts, dainty portions or pretty presentation. Bought cakes ...nothing special and a couple of scones and jam. Disappointing and really not worth the money. The tea was hot and plentiful but the whole experience was a day out but not a particularly good one or one we shall be repeating or recommending sadly.
First of all I can say that the room was really spacious, comfy and clean and the kids particularly loved the bunk beds and the free wifi! Our breakfast was also delicious and there was plenty of choice. We did experience a few niggled though. As we were booked over half term we wanted to make sure we took the kids to the pool at the right times - the receptionist didn't really know the times so we had to look at the website. Once we were in we were really impressed with the pool and the Jacuzzi, the older gym members clearly weren't impressed with having their facilities used by kids though - we really did feel like we were intruding on their time - I found myself having to move the kids out of the way of the determined swimmers at one point! I totally get they pay their membership but we stuck to our times but it really put us off going again in the morning much to the disappointment of our kids. Randomly a work colleague had met family there for a stay and her first comment was about the regulars tutting over the kids daring to enjoy themselves. This alone is enough for me not to book again really as the pool was the incentive from other hotels / B&Bs near by.
Booked a spa day with afternoon tea for a relaxing day out. Got a toddler filled swimming pool and broken Jacuzzi. Upon arrival the changing room which had only one cubical were filled on every floor and bench surface with baby mats, babies and toddlers and their mums every inch was covered with nappies babies and oh the noise. The small pool was half roped off and filled with a mother and toddler swimming lesson groups - all singing and shouting very loud wheels on the bus among other songs bla bla bla, this went on from 10am to 12pm!! The pool chairs and beds were full of toddlers babies and toys, what a nightmare. Not a Spa experience I wish to repeat. The jacuzzi was broken so just a noisy pool or grotty steam room available. This hotel offers no treatments. There is a gym but I did not visit that. No apologies given, the whole thing was a joke. We arrived at 10am fought our way through the changing facility eventually getting changed in a toilet and left by 1pm. The locker room / pool attendant was not pleasant, I overheard her talking about clients with another member of staff, all in all a shocking day. We did try to discuss the problems with another member of staff in the Bar who went to find a manager, 20 mins later no manager arrived so we left not wishing to prologue the disappointment.
Nice hotel for meeting up with family/friends. Easy location to get to not far from the A1M. The pool is lovely. The rooms are a little dated but comfy. Breakfast was very nice and the staff were really friendly. The bar was nice and reasonable prices.
From the moment we walked in, we loved the atmosphere of the Crown - we found it quirky and interesting, with a lot of style. Check-in was quick and easy, and every person we spoke to - front desk, bar staff, restaurant staff, pool staff and housekeeping - was friendly and welcoming. Breakfasts were superb, a great range of food and drink on offer and it was available for two and a half hours (I hate when hotels give a very short window for you to order breakfast). The room was clean when we arrived, and was serviced every day. It also had a hairdryer provided - a nice, useful touch. The bed was comfortable, the shower was excellent and the pool was great, and much bigger than it looked in the pictures. The restaurant had a good range of food, and everything we ate there was well prepared, with fast but friendly service. Although we were staying in February, the room was always comfortably warm. Check-out was as easy and simple as check-in. We highly recommend this hotel, and plan to stay here again. Just looking for something negative to say to keep the review fair, we did have to open the bathroom window quite often because there tended to be a lot of condensation after showering and no extractor fan.
