I had been planning a proposal to my girlfriend that was disguised as an anniversary celebration. I was in contact with the hotel and one of the restaurants for about 2 weeks prior to our stay. The hotel and restaurant staff were GREAT! They were very eager to help me carry my proposal out. They made sure that they helped me any way they could to make this experience nothing less than perfect! The front desk staff member Taecori Scott helped me with getting the perfect room for my stay. He suggested things to me that would help aid in my proposal. He was also able to help me with an early check-in the day of so I could start setting up. After talking with Taecori, I went to Varia. Varia is one of the restaurants in the hotel. I was greeted by Jazlyn and Dave who were at the host stand. I explained to them what I wanted to do and what it was for. They immediately with enthusiasm jumped on board to help me out. They provided a list of desserts and gave me honest opinions and suggestions about each one. The day of the proposal, I checked in with my girlfriend and set our plan in motion. Megan Mollett was the restaurant manager at Varia that day. She excitedly met with me and not only agreed with the dessert I wanted to have sent up to our room but also suggested more and said she would take care of it so I didn't have to worry about it. I entrusted her since she is the expert and has had experience doing things like this. Once the desserts were completed, she contacted Bryan from room service delivery. The dessert was plated amazingly and looked beautiful. Bryan set up the table and the room for me while I was out at dinner with my girlfriend. The time came for my girlfriend and I to head to our room. We walked in and were met with a breathtaking view of downtown Norfolk and the Elizabeth River thanks to Taecori. I walked her over to the table that was setup by Bryan with the desserts recommended by Megan. I got down on one knee and propped to my girlfriend. She said yes! Once we had our desserts and drank our champagne, we headed downstairs to thank everyone that was a part of our special moment. We are forever grateful for the help that each one of these people played in a special moment in our life. They were like family and the fact that they were willing to go above and beyond made everything that much more special. Thanks to their service and hospitality, we will be going back frequently whenever we need a staycation or a good place to eat with EXCELLENT service. Thank you once again to Taecori, Jazlyn, Dave, Bryan and Megan! You guys rock!
The hotel owns a few bars etc, one in particular has a dj and music until 2am. Which you can hear in your room and allows little to no sleep. Moving rooms at 1 am was there only solution after contacting them more than 2 times.
Visited here for a brief professional conference and found the meeting spaces nothing short of amazing. Soaring atrium, modern breakout and keynote rooms, soothing decor, multiple onsite restaurants. Several public parking garages, attractions (Nauticus), and restaurants (especially fun pub-style venues) just a brief walk away. Feels like a getaway within a meeting -- heightens focus and collaboration, really.
I went to Grain on a Sunday as I heard they had great brunch. I went solo and had the best bartender, Doris. She made sure I was taken care of and even introduced me to the Mimosa flight! It had sorbet and everything, very delicious!! Thank you Doris for making my sunday morning a great start to my week!
Having traveled extensively over the years, it is not often that I can say I have just visited one of my ten favorite hotels. But such was the case during our recent two night stay at the Norfolk Hilton-The Main. The entire hotel has a fresh contemporary feel and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Our 20th floor room had huge picture windows overlooking the Elizabeth River and it was relaxing to watch boats travel to and fro on the river and watch school kids on field trips to the waterside park a block away. Our room had ultra comfortable seating which made this even nicer. Breakfast in the dining room was excellent and parking was convenient and safe in the hotel garage. The MacArthur Memorial was just over a block away and is not to be missed. The Tide light rail stop was also just over a block away and allowed us to see the sights outside the downtown area in comfort as well as travel to the minor league baseball stadium for a game one evening. I would return to this hotel with great anticipation if I have reason to visit Norfolk again.
I stayed at this property for 3 nights for a business meeting. It's located in downtown Norfolk with a view of the water and is walking distance to many restaurants/attractions. The parking garage is not owned by Hilton (although billed to your room). It's entrance is on the back side of the building. My room was very nice and well maintained. It had a great view of the water. There are two excellent restaurants on-site. The executive lounge was very nice and served a good breakfast. The fitness center was adequate; however, it's a little small for a property this size. The only problem I encountered was with my bill. A valet parking charge was incorrectly added to my bill. I thought it had been resolved but my final bill didn't show the correction. For some reason, my statement wasn't loaded to the web site so I had to call Hhonors customer service to get a correct copy. Despite the billing issue, I enjoyed the stay and would return.
Beautiful, well maintained hotel with great people who provide some of the best service in the hotel industry. Extremely clean decorated with beautiful art throughout the building. Parking is very reasonable with excellent, easy access. Had a wonderful dinner at Saltine on the ground floor and enjoyed live jazz music on the second floor. I can say enough about the hotel's staff- friendly, prompt, and happy. Definitely my hotel when visiting Norfolk!
Reservation included complimentary breakfast. Ended up being charged for it and manager never called me back or provided a refund. Kitchen and delivery staff were slower than snails and had bad attitudes. Not helpful in any way.
What can I say? I love Hilton Brands and this place is gorgeous!! Had a wonderful time there ad the scenery is magnificent. Keep up the great work. There is ample parking in the downtown area. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is awesome!
The Main is a great hotel and a wonderful addition to downtown Norfolk. The decor and artwork throughout the facility rivals some of the better art museums in the area. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable and many have a beautiful view of the river. The staff was courteous and helpful.
