Hotel Excelsior is an excellent choice for a short stay in Nice. My wife and I stayed there on holiday for two nights. The hotel is conveniently walking distance from the Promenade des Anglais, as well as restaurants and shops. Our room was cozy but a typical size for European hotels. What we especially appreciated was the powerful air conditioning which kept us cool throughout the warm and humid nights. What made this hotel extra special was meeting Dragon, the front desk concierge. He was very charming -- he upgraded our room at no additional charge -- and very knowledgeable about the best restaurants, attractions, and easiest ways to get around Nice and the South of France. I cannot tell you how important it is to have someone like Dragon to help make your stay pleasant and memorable. He really made all the difference, and we'd gladly return to this hotel knowing we'd have pleasure of seeing him again. Ultimately, this hotel is a great option if you're not looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money and can stand the 12-minute walk to the beach. The accommodations are comfortable and the breakfast is decent, but it's really the perfect option for shorter stays spent mostly outside of your hotel room.
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights (one of which happened to be the 14th, Bastille Day). The hotel's decor is vintage and very adorable. They have a nice working elevator as well as open stairs. We had breakfast included and it was pretty good. The wifi was free and worked very well. As for the rooms, they were very nicely furnished. They are a little on the small side and our one complaint was that the toilets (as in France, the toilets are separate from the bathrooms) were very small, and the door could not be easily closed all the way. The location was amazing, because it was near the train station as well as a walking distance from the beach. The best part, however, was the staff. Each day, they spent extra time to ensure that we could have the best stay. My grandmother, who was with us on the trip, twisted her ankle the last day and every staff member rushed to help her. They even helped us locate an open pharmacy on Bastille Day at around 10-11 at night. We were very satisfied with the stay.
As you are doing now, we checked the reviews. If you are a bit like us you could be used to larger hotel rooms. But do not let that put you off this lovely boutique hotel. There is plenty of room to put stuff, you just have to jiggle things abt🤣, we are here for 11 nights, yes we are actually still here! And we managed to get everything packed away and hung up. Ask for a kettle, they will bring you one straight away! The staff are very friendly and will advise you on everything you need help with. The breakfast room is small too but has everything you need. Ikemthenrestnif the hotel it is quirky in designed very comfortable to have breakfast. You can also go outside to eat if you like. I am gluten intolerant so I'm limited in what breads I can have therefore missing out on the lovely baguettes, croissants and pastries on offer. I do get gf rolls every morning which is a bit boring but that's my fault not theirs. Ok, so let me tell you what foods they do have. Scrambled egg, sausages, bacon, a thing to boil your own eggs, toaster, fresh fruit, pastries😢 Croissants, cheeses, ham, pastrami, jams, marmalade, honey, a machine for all types of coffees and hot water for tea. Juices and water. With the smaller nature if the room you might have to jostle past someone whilst waiting to use coffee machine, but sure this is an opportunity to get to know people😀. Coming back to the hotel late afternoon or evening you find sweets/candy beside the lift and lovely flavoured water, a nice welcome back. The location of the hotel is perfect. We got a taxi from the airport which cost €40, needless to say we are getting the train/bus or whatever else back, in fact we might walk🤣. I love this hotel and found lovely places to eat not too far away and as others have said 2mins from train station. We took the train to Monaco(€9 each), Villefranche (abt €7 each) by the way don't eat in La Terrace in Vfrinache. Train to Antibes(€9 each). Tomorrow we are visiting Eze which apparently is a beautiful historic mediaeval type village. We would love to return to Nice and will definitely use this hotel again. The rooms are quirky, immaculate and beds extremely comfortable, the staff are so lovely which is a big bonus. Sometimes when you visit a larger hotel you are just another guest but here they make you feel special.
This was small hotel conveniently located next to the main train station in Nice. The room was clean, although a bit small, this is fine for me, although others might struggle. The waterfront is around a 10min walk and the train station around 2 mins, if you wish to explore, I recommend getting the reasonably priced train to Monaco, that run frequently.
Lovely hotel, about 15 minutes walk to the beach. In a safe suburb and also just 2 minutes walk to the train station which was ideal for traveling to Monaco and Cannes. Nice clean bedrooms with all required facilities. Disappointed that there was no coffee machine in the room. Little poor on breakfast selection as we struggled with vegetarian options. All in all would highly recommend this hotel. Good location, friendly staff, safe area.
My boyfriend and i had an amazing weekend at this hotel. We fell in love with the decor, enjoyed the breakfast in the morning and the fabulous cocktails in the evening. The staff were so friendly and polite, taking the time to show us where to find the best restaurants and how to get to the market. We will definitely be back!!
The hotel made a good base for exploring the local area. It is set back a way from the coast (about a 12 minute stroll) and about a minutes walk from the train station if you're looking to explore up and down the coast (which is also where the bus from the airport drops/picks up). The staff were very pleasant and the place was nice and clean with a quirky sense of decor that was actually very nice. Our room had plenty of space although could have maybe done with a chest of draws or similar. The shower was excellent and there was a small balcony although no space for chairs and a table. Didn't try the food or the bar (we weren't really sure how the bar worked, but didn't ask to be fair)
We loved our stay here! Big room with separate toilet and shower (a rarity in Europe that makes things feel a little more spacious), huge comfortable "Queen" bed (definitely felt more like a King), our own balcony, extremely kind and helpful staff who spoke by far the best English of anywhere else we visited, and a quaint little courtyard where we could bring our own wine and food. Even though the hotel has its own restaurant service that serves out there, no one ever said a word to us about not being allowed to bring our own stuff-the staff just wanted us to have a nice stay. Location is nice and close to the train station and a short walk to the main street, but is far enough away to be nice and quiet. You can control the AC in your room, the maids always cleaned the room quickly and thoroughly, and the staff provided anything extra we needed (like a knife for cheese or tweezers when I got a small splinter) quickly and with a smile. We did not get the breakfast, but it seemed pretty tasty from what we saw. Absolutely would recommend/would stay again!
This hotel is a real gem and deserving of good reviews. From arrival the receptionist was welcoming, friendly and helpful, making great restaurant recommendations. The hotel decor is a bit wacky but it makes a great experience. Breakfast was really good with a good choice of items and good quality bread, meat, fruit, etc. Other than location not being at sea front it is hard to make a negative comment about this hotel. The location was actually very good on a fairly quiet street close to Nice Railway station and the airport bus stop which was why we chose this area.
Super hotel with lovely friendly staff and lovely different themed decor and rooms staff allowed us to check in very early with no extra charge which was so appreciated after very long time travelling with flights and road trip. Would.highly recommend this fun and lovely quirky hotel with lovely refreshing power showers and all toiletries supplied and bed to die for
