The biggest problem for us was finding this hotel due to the on-going tram works (another year to go)-this construction which may be an issue to some staying at this hotel only effected us on one day. We found the staff very helpful and friendly, the room was a good size with a large bathroom. The only issue here was the shower water was not that hot for our liking & there were no face washers. The elevators/lifts only have room for two people at a time which cane be a little irritating. The hotel is walking distance from the train station, trams, beach, old town and restaurants.
We wanted to visit Nice to catch up with our daughter who is currently living there. Not being our main holiday we had to be discerning!! After lots of research we decided on this hotel! It was a bit of a bumpy start as we had trouble finding the Hotel as the name is not displayed outside! But, on our eventual arrival we were delighted with our decision, we had booked the standard double Room 24. It wasn't the biggest room in the world, but the bed was huge, the room was pristine the air con was a dream and the complimentary water went down a treat! The beautiful bathroom had a lovely walk in shower with a choice of 2 different shower heads, a large rain shower one and a normal slightly smaller one. The bed linen was crisp and fresh and the towels were beautifully white and changed daily! The room had plenty of storage for clothes both hanging and shelves. There is also a fridge in the room along with tea and coffee facilities. The cups are disposable, but I actually prefer this! The TV is HD and has 3 English channels! We were right above the ongoing tram works, which don't seem to occur at the weekends and no noise came from them before 9am during our 5 night stay! The bed was super comfortable! We did not have the breakfast at the Hotel, as we liked to get up and head down to the old town, pick up a delicacy from one of the many fabulous shops and ate it sitting on a bench on the Promenade, people watching and enjoying the view! The Hotel is exceptionally well located for everywhere, including the train station and we visited Villefranche-sur-Mer and Antibes, which are both beautiful and close by with sandier beaches! Although the beach in Nice is wonderful too! Finally, the Hotel Staff were very friendly and helpful, shout out to Lionel who was particularly helpful and knowledgeable! One last thing, all of the Hotels in Nice seem to have an extra daily tax you have to pay per person, some hotels were extortionate but this one is only 1 Euro 50 per person per day! I highly recommend this Hotel and would not hesitate to stay again!
I should have guessed the rooms would be smaller and it was. Nice bed and bath but almost no where to unpack. Nice touch was complementary water or so I believed. This was only for the first day of a 10 night stay. Our booking through Travelocity did not include breakfast or any other benefits I found out. Be aware overall it's a nice older hotel but you get what you pay for. Good location is one of the better features.
Nice is going through some changes to their transport system currently, and a tram network is being built as part of this. This disruption is major on Victor Hugo boulevard, right outside La Villa. The building work starts at 7am each day, going on till late in the day, so you cannot have a lie in, or enjoy some peace and quiet after a day out. The hotel does not make customers aware of this when booking, and I find this deplorable. We originally stayed at the rear of the hotel, but the noisy ventilation systems from neighbouring properties make sleeping soundly impossible, but with hindsight, we should have stayed put! The female reception staff are rude, dismissive, ignorant and down right awful. For a minimum of £120 per night, you are given ONE complimentary tea bag or coffee sachet, in PAPER cups!! Now, they are not priced for a cheap budget hotel rate, but even a travel lodge will give you a ceramic cup and saucer! The bathrooms are of a good standard, with double headed power showers, but the one we used had no window covering, so that you could fry an egg on the toilet by 9am!!!! Not clever! There was also no black out curtains in the bedroom, which is a fundamental error.... The hotel prides itself on its boutique feel, but too many things are wrong with it in our opinion to be classed as this. It is overpriced, the staff need culling or retraining, and some of the fixtures and fittings are tired and need looking at. The building work started this time last year, and has no chance of being finished in the next year, so take my advice.......don't stay here unless you are hard of hearing!! The only reason the hotel is not a 0/5, is for the comfortable mattresses. It's just a pity we were not on it long enough to enjoy...... Would not recommend to our worst enemy......
We stayed at this hotel at the end of our European trip for 3 nights and we were impressed with the room size, soundproofing, cleanliness, and overall helpfulness of the staff. The building is beautiful from the outside and inside, although there is major construction on the main street which may impact the outside view. The hotel is located on a quiet street not too far from the main attractions (about a 10 minute walk from the Promenade d'Anglais). Lionel was very helpful in giving us directions and suggestions for everything (including getting to Monaco, Eze village, and the main street as well as restaurant recommendations). The welcome tea and water was a nice touch. Wifi was included and was fairly good; it was a bit slow on one of the days but it was fine overall. Despite the construction outside (which started around 7am), we could not hear anything from the room, so it was very quiet. We didn't have any drinks from the bar, but the lobby/lounge looked very welcoming. We would definitely recommend this hotel; for a three star hotel, it was above our expectations.
Good hotel and central located in Nice. Shame they raised the prices during F1 weekend in monaco (double prices) Friendly staff, average breakfast (not much choice) Bathroom excellent with great shower. There could be more electricity outlets in the room
We stayed here over the Bank Holiday weekend for the Grand Prix in Monaco for my husbands 50th Birthday - all the staff are very polite and professional and the hotel is a great location for the Promenade, Square and Train Station, the breakfast was continental style with lots of choice. We booked an executive room and asked for a quite room which Valerie arranged for us on the top floor overlooking the church - the view was great and the room was very quite and comfortable - everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay - nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They even arranged for some Champagne for my husbands birthday to have whenever we wished - communication was great between the staff - they all knew exactly what was happening with each customer. It was clean, to a high standard and great facilities - rarely do we have a stay that is faultless in every aspect. Great customer service !!
My partner and I has the most fantastic time in your hotel and could not have asked for more. Our room was beautiful, the hotel was stunning and above all, the staff were amazing. We would like to give special mentions to Dominque and the lady at breakfast. The standout member of staff for us for definitely Julien, however. Julien is an amazing asset to your hotel! He made us feel extremely welcome, went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay and was always wore an inviting smile. The location was also perfect for us. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay.
This is a very pleasant hotel in a quiet but convenient location. Everywhere we wanted to vist in Nice was within walking distance. It was easy to get to the airport bus stop and less than twenty minutes to the bus to Cap Ferrat. On arrival we were made to feel welcome, given a good map and offered information, when we needed it. We were told that luggage could be stored on our last day and that check-out time was noon. There was a small and rather slow lift upstairs to the Comfort Room we had booked. It was good to have plenty of space, tranquillity at night and a very comfortable bed.The only grumbles were that the bathroom was badly lit, especially the mirror so that one could not see clearly when shaving. Also, although an electric kettle was provided, after the first night there was nothing to drink from. Breakfast was in a bright and pleasant room downstairs and there was generous provision to suit most tastes. Looking after things was a very polite, cheerful and efficient young lady. Near reception was a comfortable lounge and bar and a few books. There are currently some major roadworks in the area but we were not disturbed at all. We enjoyed staying in this hotel and found the staff most polite and helpful.
Gorgeous decor, sophisticated ambiance, friendly staff and excellent location not far from the seafront and the Old Town. Bars, shops and restaurants on the doorstep. Perfect place for the first stop of our honeymoon :) Thanks Villa Victor Hugo!
