Holiday Inn Express Grand Island - Niagara Falls2.5 out of 5.0

We checked in late and were greeted by name as we came in. The room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was standard Holiday Inn breakfast items but substantial. Heated indoor pool and plenty of parking.
I've not been to this hotel before and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of stay we had. We spent the day shopping and then headed to the hotel to check in. The hotel looks to have been recently renovated. The rooms are quite modern, comfortable and clean. The staff are friendly and the common areas are nice. The breakfast is the typical IHG Express but nicely done and neat. I thought this would be a noisy hotel being right beside I190 but it was very quiet. Great place to stay!
This is a new hotel, modern, with good size rooms. The first night we were given a ground floor room with a door to a patio. The door did not seal properly we saw bugs in the room. We requested an other floor than the ground floor. The person in charge refuse to move us to an other floor upon arrival. The next day Amanda contacted us and transferred us to a room on the 3rd floor. The room was very nice with oversize bathroom (It seems that all room have only showers). They should put a note on the thermostat to indicate how to turn the fan off. Being a new hotel it will take time to fine tune the operation with the new personnel. Management seem dedicated to take the action required.
Took a trip with my wife and a couple from overseas to see the falls. The hotel is off the beaten track but a short ride from the Rainbow Bridge. There are no gas stations or restaurants close by. But the hotel is fairly new and, as of now, not showing any signs of age. The staff is very nice and helpful. The room was large and comfortable. Bed very comfortable. The only real issue was what is offered for breakfast. It is included in the rate. But it was horrible!!! Some items not edible.
For the first part of the stay, I was pretty sure they’ll score a full 5/5 but as the stay progressed, they kept disappointing. It all starts with a brand spanking new hotel, everything you touch or see is just brand new! Modern decor, lighting, furniture, elevators, just brilliant and makes you wonder if this is really a HIE. The rooms are so new that I had to remove the plastic cover from the pull out sofa. Imagine being the first to use a hotel bed! Now starts the disappointment, the sofa bed had bugs! Biting me and leaving marks all over my hand. The second problem was the water pressure, why should that be ignored when you’ve pumped tons of money on the infrastructure! The worst part, breakfast! The only fruit served was oranges - stale ones. The choice of food was very limited. Clearly, a lot of cost cutting being done on the breakfast front. Sleep comfort - I’m guessing some corners were cut on the money spent on mattresses; my family was up until 2-3AM as sound sleep was far away on these beds. I even went for a walk in the lobby at about 1 when the front desk staff asked “oh you’re still awake!”. Yes ma’am, thanks to your beds. Room cleaning, what a formality done by the staff. Didn’t even leave enough fresh towels in the room. I met the cleaning lady early in the morning who said “I’m so tired already”; well, it clearly showed how tired she was after how she left my room after “cleaning”. Lastly, the hotel is still under construction, the rooms are only available until 2nd floor, so be prepared to meet builders who use the guest elevator all day long and leaving debris from shoes, clothes etc which surely doesn’t smell great. These are all signs of poor management; it could’ve been a great stay. I notified the hotel through an email about these problems during the stay but nobody even acknowledged the email, forget fixing the issues. PS: The hotel is located in a secluded area with the nearest gas station about 2 miles, be sure to pack water, snacks and anything else you may need. Canadian border is closer than any restaurant from this hotel, so plan accordingly.
I forgot my coat in the room, but they found and were so kind enough to manage it delivered to my next staying hotel by USPS. Thank you very much for their service, I will definitely stay at this place again for the next time
The HIE is located in a building that was abandoned for probably 30 years... I drove by this all this time while visiting family. Do not let that scare you! Recently opened...it is a fantastic reuse of a building that is modern and clean. The rooms are well appointed and the bath has a great shower and very well lit. The lobby area and breakfast are top notch for a hotel breakfast. Easily access to Niagara Falls and Buffalo makes this a great location. It is isolated so make sure you have all you need before artiving. One environmental item I like.. The shampoos and washes are all in pump bottles in the shower. No small bottles to replace.... Sorry to those who like to take the shampoo bottles home! Very comfortable bed and linens... Forget the craziness of Niagara Falls....you are only 15 minutes away! Great stay! Lots of pics on the Internet...
Spent an overnight on our way to Toronto during January polar vortex event ..... this recently opened H.I. Express was actually the old Hooker Chemical office building from the 70s & 80s which was totally gutted and redone. Very clean facility with rooms typically larger than most HI Express. Downsides are items such as electrical outlets in the room were prone to work or suddenly not work —- particularly those in the headboards and under the TV. Typical HI breakfast selections with commercially prepackaged, reheated egg items Parking area appears very undersized for the number of rooms On the plus side: Bring new, beds were firm and nice.Rooms include microwave, small refrigerator and coffee maker
The rooms are big and comfortable. The staff is inconsistent. Some are great with great customer service skills, some could care less and do not know how to use their system. More training on the system and soft skills are needed.
This is a new hotel on Grand Island near Niagara Falls. It’s an ideal location, just a short drive to the falls themselves. The hotel is just off the I-190. It has been open apparently for three months, and is a converted office block. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. The building is large, so was the room. However, there were still some snagging issues in the room that remained outstanding. The bedside unit was not completed; just a gap in the woodwork where power sockets should be; no power to bedside area as a result. The curtains had no been finished; the pole was not attached; the air conditioning unit blew the curtains away from window. The attention to detail by management was lacking. That said, we had a comfortable night; the beds were very comfortable with great sheets etc. The bathroom was huge. Nice shower; although the pressure could have been better. The breakfast was fine, with the tables in the large reception area. Overall, a decent place and location; the minor issues need to be addressed by management
