Elegant experience right in the heart of Newport! Just like staying in your own mansion. Excellent food and service at breakfast and dinner and the view from the rooftop deck is outstanding. I highly recommend the Vanderbilt!
We spent 4 amazing days at the Grace Vanderbilt. The hotel is quaint and charming and the the hospitality is outstanding. The staff went above and beyond, so friendly and accommodating. You are steps from downtown yet the hotel is on a quiet street. On a side note, the rooftop bar has beautiful views of the water and the lobster rolls are delish! Many of the top restaurants in Newport are within walking distance.
Beautiful hotel with beautiful people!! Clean room good food with local products a tremendous stay !! We will definitely go back and we will also recommend to our friends !!! This was our first trip as a family of four with a newborn baby and we are glad we chose the vanderbilt hotel
Terrific rooftop and an incredibly accommodating staff. We were in a duplex suite that was near to perfect. However, one annoyance was the AC/heating system was inches away from our bed -- there was no getting away from it or silencing it w/o turning the system off (would one put up with this in his/her own home?). However, we endured and had an otherwise wonderful stay. (A suggestion to management -- pipe in music to all the common rooms and particularly the outside patio. All with individual controls.)
The Vanderbilt is the place to stay in Newport. It is within steps of downtown Newport, but on a quite side-road, away from traffic and noise. The staff - from concierge, to valet, to waitstaff - are so gracious and lovely. Expect a warm greeting (with a welcome beverage!) and that they are expecting you. The staff is well trained and are there to make your stay more enjoyable. This isn't a commercial hotel in the business of turning over rooms; The Vanderbilt staff enjoys your presence. They offer all the amenities a traditional hotel would supply - multiple dining options, pool, fitness room, and even a rooftop bar! It is absolutely worth spending the money to experience this Newport gem. We can't wait to go back!
This hotel is small and unassuming on approach. There is someone there to greet you at the door and check in is country house style. It feels up market and the staff want you to feel valued. Cocktail is provided during check in. The room was a surprise in that it was two floors. The bottom floor was a lounge, small restroom and kitchenette. the upstairs was a bedroom and full bathroom. Not sure that I like this arrangement for just a short stay, but better for a longer one. however, that is nit picking as it was a very good and quiet room. My only small complain was that it took up to five minutes to get the water to run hot, but that was down to the old nature of the building. It has a rooftop bat #from which to watch the sunset. The restaurant was very attentive and correct service. The food was of a very high standard. It lacked a little atmosphere as we were one of the few diners, being the time of year when it was not full. Would recommend this hotel unreservedly.
Came here Friday - Sunday in September to celebrate a birthday. It was difficult to even confirm our reservation - we were promised a confirmation email which we never received. We were in an outdated, dirty room with food under the table. Our dog ate something off the floor within the first five min. Luckily, he was ok but we were worried about him the entire stay. Hand soap in the bathroom was not available. Room was right next to the lobby and outdoor restaurant seating. We could not keep the curtains open because lobby and restaurant patrons could see directly into the room. Room was also noisy due to location. Tried to take a bath and the bath water was yellow/brown - disgusting. Was then afraid to drink the water. We paid almost $3,000 for a 2 night stay and I've had better experiences at much cheaper hotels. We expected a hotel similar to the Mauna Lani (an Auberge Resort in Hawaii) and did not receive that kind of experience. Very disappointing.
The Grace Vanderbilt is close to restaurants and shopping. The hotel breakfast was excellent. The staff was helpful gave us ideas for things to do. The hotel is within walking distance to the harbor. The rooms are spacious with nice amenities. I would recommend staying at this hotel and I am looking forward to our next visit.
We chose The Vanderbilt for our annual girls' trip and were not disappointed! The hotel is conveniently located to shops and restaurants, and the rooftop lounge has amazing views over the bay. We were pleasantly relieved each time we wearily returned from shopping and mansion-touring to be warmly welcomed back to our quaint, comfortable lodgings . The staff knew us by name, gave us great activity recommendations, and provided such personal service that we felt as if we were staying with friends. The spa, fire pit and sunroom enhanced the luxurious experience. We were sad to leave this wonderful retreat.
We went during the Newport Boat show, so the rooms were expensive. We got a suite as nothing else was available. It was spacious and well-appointed. We enjoyed it. There were many comfortable places to hang out on the ground floor. There was a billiards room and two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. The bar was tucked away behind the restaurant. The selection of gins was excellent and the waitress made me an outstanding Monkey 47 Martini. There was also a rooftop bar which filled up for cocktail hour and had a lively atmosphere. The view was spectacular, although it was a bit windy. We had dinner at the restaurant. It was first rate. We had breakfast on the patio next to the pool. It was a perfect weekend away from New York except the New York prices seemed to have followed us to Newport.
