Visited this hotel with friends after touring the Hunter Valley Vineyards. What a wonderful place and an excellent choice location, by the side of the river. We had a riverside room where we could see the tugs and river traffic. We witnessed a heavy thunderstorm at this time. The room was just wonderful. It had an entrance/kitchenette, with a lounge area and big TV. Screen doors led to the bedroom and the king sized bed, where there was a further TV. The bathroom was well appointed with bath, shower over, and a good sized bowl. Tea making facilities too. We ate in the restaurant at dinner time, this too was a great experience. Breakfast was full of choices, from continental to cooked breakfast. Eggs cooked to your liking as well. There are walks directly outside the hotel by the side of the river, and watch the boys fish. We could not fault this hotel, nor could we the same brand hotel in Singapore. A delight to stay here.
Stayed for one night, lovely hotel, valet parking and staff to help you with your luggage. Very small and unimpressive reception area, which is a shame as people can be backed up to the doorways and it crowds the space to get to the rooms etc. We were given a nice suite on the ground floor, but we couldn't really open the blinds as everyone at the pool and walking past would see in. The bathroom was big, it was a disable one - so the water in the shower the next morning just went everywhere - I used 4 towels to mop up the water - lucky they supplied extra towels. One of my towels had a massive hole in it - very noticeable, so not sure how the cleaners etc missed that. Staff in the bar area were lovely and it is a nice area to sit. Breakfast was the highlight, really really good buffett with an egg station, so you can order eggs done however you want them - omelettes, poached etc, juice station, lots of cereals and fruits and nuts, bakery items - you have to order a nice cappucino, but that was fine and good. they also had plenty of newspapers so you could read over breakfast.
Just had two nights at the CP. Location is great, handy to all the touristy things along the waterfront. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Great view (room 429) over the river and out to Nobbys. The room was well appointed and the bed comfortable, however, the lighting was very ordinary (a common issue with upmarket hotels) and there were a couple of minor cleaning issues. The exhaust fan vent in the bathroom was absolutely clogged with dust behind the grill which probably explains why the bathroom fogs up so comprehensively. There were circular cola ring stains on the shelf in the fridge and the windows need a clean, especially the higher ones. Given the price of the room a couple of biscuits to go with a cuppa would be nice, after all, cheap motels can even do that. The layout of this hotel is linear so anyone with mobility issues should be aware that some rooms are a long, long way from the lift. It would also be handy if the website listed any height restrictions of their carpark. This is a common failing with many hotels, but I notice some other Crowne properties do include this useful information for those of us with high vehicles. Despite these criticisms it is a nice venue for a break.
Hotel is situated on the water and convenient to running or walking along the foreshore out to the lighthouse and also lots of nice restaurants and bars. Rooms are modern with small kitchens including fridge. Nice pool that is suitable for laps. Breakfast bar is excellent; egg station, freshly squeezed fruit juice that you make yourself and excellent coffee. It's now my hotel of choice in Newcastle.
Just have an overnight at the hotel. I could not fault the hotel or the staff. They could not do enough for us. Allowed us to check in early and after a friend had a stumble they patched him up. Great service by the night manager and his staff. Thanks
Always enjoy staying here. Love the location near the water and always busy. Rooms are comfortable and lots of space to spread out. Amenities are ok. Prices are high compared to other locations in Newcastle but convenient as an IHG member.
Quite expensive, and for that you get nothing special - we were in a 'city view' room.. The room was adequate, the bathroom ok in size but the water pressure was not good and the tiny bath made the shower experience poor. There were only sport channels on the pay TV and as mentioned the view was - well, non existent. The drinks at the bar very very very expensive. For this price we would stay at the Quest next time.
We went for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised at how much more we enjoyed the weekend because we stayed here. The hotel is right on the river and the view from the window was constantly changing as cargo ships came, loaded and left. The river itself is beautiful as is the boardwalk along it. The service in the hotel was excellent, our room was great and clean. A memorable weekend.
Lovely Newcastle. I have been living in Sydney all my life and have only realised I haven't been to Newcastle so this Australia Day I took myself off for three days in the wonderful city. The foreshore is a great walk around the harbour up to Fort Scratchley and over to Nobbys Beach. The baths at Nobbys Beach are great as is the beaches further south like Bar Beach. There is a fabulous sky walk from Shepherds Hill all the way to Bar Beach which is a must do. There are plenty of great places to eat as well and coffee like the bigger cities.
Stayed last Sunday night in King Suite overlooking the water. There are some great food and bars close by if you want to get out. Room is well appointed, although a few upgrades could help out (TV to digital for instance) but bed was extra comfy and ability to draw black out curtains for a sleep in was handy. Check in staff were great and helped with the Japanese restaurant recommendation nearby - try it out for sure! Also go for a late check out and then its easy to go for a walk along the wharf up to the beach.
