Crowne Plaza Newcastle

4.5 out of 5.0

Usually stay at the Crowne Plaza, Coogee - a favourite but was unsure of what to expect. My impression was very favourable. Staff members were friendly and helpful. My harbour view room included a separate lounge area, the bathroom was large and toiletries were classy. The view gave me a new understanding of what Newcastle has to offer. And the pool - wow! Not often I can swim in a 'long' hotel pool overlooking a sea view. Appreciated the free fruit & newspapers in the lobby. Only factor downgrading this from 5 rating is the extra charge for Internet access - really in this age surely that's very out of date with guest expectations.

So close to the water, it's divine, restaurants 15 meters away, and the in house breakfast is worth it, the free wifi is a great complimentary bonus, the staff here are so friendly I feel like I've known them all for years, house keeping was top standard, and having the chance to hire a bike at the front door is a added bonus, was thee for business and will be asking to go back to this spot again and again. The rooms a spacious and feel very homely, only thing I had trouble with was the low lighting in the bedroom only because of my eyesight, but then to in the bedroom made up for that,

Crowne Plaza is located on the river with easy access to walk to many eateries along the promenade. The breakfast was delicious and had lots of variety. All of the staff went above and beyond and they are the hotel's greatest asset. Just a warning re the gym. It is fantastic but I injured myself due to an over zealous instructor. Ended up on crutches!

We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is located in a fantastic location with easy access to restaurants, ferry to Stockton and great walking/running areas along the waterfront. The rooms were extremely quiet, even when directly above the waterfront. Great check in/out staff. Rooms were very clean, with great amenities.

My wife & I stayed at the Crown Friday 10th March for our wedding anniversary. We had planned on having dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. All the staff were extremely pleasant & professional. We ended up dining at Seasalt, the Crown restaurant. The meal was faultless. I would rate The Crown Newcastle 5 Star in all areas. Thanks Ed.

This hotel never fails to deliver. Up to the usual Crowne Plaza standard service and facilities are ideal for a business function. Accomodation is comfortable and the restaurant is also above average. Only fault I could raise is the lack of recognition by staff for IHG status.

Just a quick stop on our trip but it was worth it. Harbour view room, valet parking and professional, courteous staff. The room was spacious and the in-suite jet tub was divine. Conveniently located next to pubs & bars from the street sounds when we checked in. Right on the harbour walking path which just beckons you to explore Newcastle.

We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our night at the Crown Plaza. Every staff member we spoke to was helpful and courteous. The delightful lady at the check in even upgraded us to a room with a water view, it was a wonderful surprise when we walked into the room. Thank you so much! The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The location was excellent, everything we did was walking distance. Breakfast was fresh with great choices and excellent staff. We are already planning a return visit, next time it will be for 2 nights!

One night stay on a business trip. Due to late arrival, I ordered room service which was very nice. Room was large and comfortable. Location is perfect for a morning stroll along the water, and not too long a walk to beaches and parks on the foreshore. Also an easy walk into the office in the centre of Newcastle.

Got a harbour view suite on level 1, which was a shame because the trees hinder half the view. We were only staying for the night and wasn't intending on spending too much time in the room so it was OK. Location-wise it's on the harbour foreshore and very conveniently located. Breakfast had variety and of decent quality. Staff is generally quite friendly and attentive. A couple of minor observations. Check in was managed by a trainee, and don't recall seeing a supervisor as it was a bit busy. This in itself wasn't a problem but there were a couple of things that had us going back to the front or confirming with staff later. Also, of the key cards one didn't work at all and we went from the front directly to the room. I had to go back to the front and re-program it. Later in the evening when my wife tried hers it didn't work. Didn't bother going back to the front to get it sorted. Parking-wise it $28 for valet parking, but if you visit on the weekend, you can park on the streets after 5:00 PM for free and if you don't mind walking a bit (5 minutes?) you can park at the Lee Wharf car park for free. Street parking next to the hotel is $2.50 an hour after 9:00 AM.
