We were traveling the East Coast on our motorcycle and spent the night here. After a long day traveling we were happy to find the room was a nice size, clean & comfortable, The owner was awesome, he told my husband he could wash his bike & the next morning gave us directions so we could see the sights. Would stay again on our next East coast trip.
Whenever we come to the New Haven area, we always stay here. This is not a luxury place. It is clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and the perfect place to stay. There are no exercise rooms, pools, spas, etc. here but we're not here for any of that. We don't really spend much time in hotels no matter where we are. It's generally arrive, chill a bit, go to dinner, come back and watch TV, go to bed. The next morning we're up and out and don't come back till near dinner time where we go through the same routine again. I don't need a luxury hotel for that. This is perfect. The owner is very congenial and takes great pride in the property. Stay here.
We came here from Boston for the night so my husband could do a triathlon in a neighboring town. This was pretty much the only place nearby with vacancies, so we booked a room. Bad idea. Carpets filthy. Stains on bedding and shower curtain. Dirty toilet. Splattering of something (coffee? who knows) all over the wall. No batteries in the TV remote. Hair (not ours) in the tub, etc. SO GROSS. Kids even creeped out. Don't stay here. Cannot wait to get out of here in the morning and disinfect.
Surprisingly marvelous for a Rodeway. Very friendly, gregarious manager who offered free water (as GP member) and to change rooms if any problem at check-in. Room very large with many nice touches - front-to-back windows for ventilation, strong shower, very good internet, comfy sofa and very good sleep! And phone actually allowed long-distance call. Only one gripe - hard wooden chair at work desk - could use softer swivel. Very convenient to I-95. Will gladly stay again.
I originally booked a three night stay at this Rodeway inn for a family wedding but the room was so good I stayed another night. I slept comfortably in a king bed, the bathroom was clean and the shower was great. There is a microwave, a small freezer and a refrigerator. The A/C works well and is up to date with no rattles or unnecessary noises. Also the room I had was large with plenty of drawer space and plugs for electronic devices. The owners take a great deal of pride in running a quality establishment and it shows. I'd certainly stay here again and if you want a good nights sleep in a comfortable room without breaking the bank this is a good place to stay. The breakfast is a true Continental breakfast but there is a Dunkin Donuts and a large grocery store nearby. Easy on and off access to I-95.
The room we booked and were already charged for was a king suite but we were given a room with 2 queen beds. The rooms are accessed from the outside and there are very bright lights outside the windows glaring in around the drapes. We spent 10 minutes trying to jam the drapes into the windowsill to block the light. The room appears clean but there were stains everywhere, on the bedding, lampshades, etc. The worst thing was the mattresses. They were rock hard, the worst we've experienced anywhere and we've traveled extensively. I know your saying you got what you paid for but we've paid less than this and had a much better experience. We usually book at Holiday Inn but had read complaints about remodeling noise on TripAdvisor so we booked here. Lesson learned, we'll take construction noise over this any day.
Reasonably priced. Very convenient location. Stayed overnight with my husband and 2 year old son. Receptionist was thoughtful enough to change our reservation to a NON-SMOKING room once he realized I have our toddler with us. Room was very clean but needs airing out. Strong AC. Good water pressure in the shower. This was a good resting point from New York to our home in Massachusetts. A very decent find.
I stay regularly at Choice Hotels, but have never tried Rodeway Inn before. I also know that how good or bad a hotel can be depends more on its franchise owner then just the brand name, and I saw the great reviews for this hotel. I figured I would give this Rodeway Inn a shot. At check-in, the front desk was strangely confrontational in questioning me if it was really just me in a room with two beds. He told me if it was only one person, I only needed one bed and he was changing my reservation. I told him that I wanted two beds, and in an angry tone of voice he asked me why I needed two beds. After telling him that I just wanted the extra space to rest my luggage (I was going to be there for six nights, initially). He said fine, but this made for a terrible first impression. If the hotel needed me to move down to a room with one bed, and if I was courteously and politely asked, as a guest of the hotel, to move down, I may have said yes. But that's not how it happened and why I stuck to my guns. This was a poor impression and made me wonder what I was getting myself into in my first try with a Rodeway Inn. And that's really where the bad ended. I was impressed with the room, in its size and condition. A lot of effort has clearly gone into maintaining these rooms to a high degree, and it shows. I wasn't expecting much from the bed going in, and while it's not a Comfort Inn type bed, it was actually pretty good. Other employees, including the woman at the desk, were very nice people and courteous. The internet, with the exception of one day, seemed to work pretty well. On the day it did not work as well, management was very responsive to me. The hotel did not seem to have a problematic clientele overall. I leave the hotel as a satisfied guest. Had it not been for the initial impression, this is a five-star review. But first impressions are always remembered.
Don't expect a lot of frills or extras. But this is a real value as far as a large clean room with a great shower. Located right off of the highway yet the noise wasn't bad at all. You are on your own for breakfast but there is coffee available and an in room fridge and table and chairs to eat at.
I booked this hotel so that I could have a quick drive in and out of New Haven for a night. Room was clean and well maintained. Definitely a little dated but looked like there have been some recent upgrades. Very friendly staff. Wound up being perfect for what I needed.
