Booked this hotel as first time in Naples and wanted a known quantity. It was ok but didn't blow me away. The big plus points are the staff are lovely, the location is a couple of mins walk away from a metro station and the buffet breakfast is fab served on the 3rd floor terrace overlooking the castle. Unfortunately there are huge building works going on between the hotel and the castle - Naples equivalent of London Cross Rail! My room overlooked Via A Depretis which is very busy so glad I had earplugs with me as the double-glazing couldn't completely block it. Overall the hotel achieved the goals I had when I booked it but it's not one of the best Mercures I've stayed in.
Wasn’t a good start, the room we were given was dirty, the shower drain was blocked and the TV and safe lock system didn’t work. We were then moved to a second room that was in better order, reception staff very sympathetic and helpful. English TV stations in second room didn’t work and despite telling reception a number of times over our 3night stay, this wasn’t resolved. This isn’t a 4 star hotel, it’s a 3......for eg. paper cups for tea and coffee in the room. Hotel is in a good location, close to most the sites and transport link and harbour. Breakfast was very average, room for improvement, as other reviews halve mentioned. Ok place to stay but wouldn’t go back.
This hotel is very well located so we were on walking distance of a lot of interesting points in the city. The Piazza Municipio is near by where Hop on Hop off service is available. The historical centre is about 10 to 15 minutes walking. The reception staff is very friendly, the room was really nice with excellent beds, and modern bathroom. Breakfast buffet was fine. When in Naples we will book here again
Booked this hotel as wanted 24 hr manned reception due to early morning flight. All reception staff were extremely helpful proving takeaway breakfast, wake up call as requested and arranged for taxi at 4am. Well located for ferry terminal and short walk to historic centre. Room well maintained.
We chose this hotel due to the proximity to the ferry and the price. For the price, the hotel was decent. We were only in Naples for a day before leaving, hence the need to just find a hotel for the night. It was good for just the one night, but I wouldn't stay there again. The location wasn't the best, but we felt safe, and it was relatively close to the busy street of Via Toledo. The hotel was clean. We didn't spend much time in the hotel - but it seemed ok. The Wi-fi did not work in our room, except right next to the door - a little annoying - but for a short stay wasn't terrible. We called the front desk and they said they re-started the wi-fi, but still didn't work. They offered for us to switch rooms - but wasn't worth it for our one night. It was good for just the one night - and a hidden gem we found was the restaurant next store, The Lazzara Trattoria and Pizzeria. It's in the alley and it doesn't really get busy until after 9pm, but it had AMAZING food.
Great staff, good room, great location. It seemed pretty central and it's smack next door to the Castle Nuovo with some construction in btwn. Went to the bar patio and got couple good photos of castle. It was a super short stay but beds we comfortable & it was a modern nice room
We arrived for a 4 night stay quite early on a Friday morning, unfortunately my partner really was not feeling very well (after we returned home it transpired that he actually needed heart surgery) and the reception pulled out all the stops to get us a room, which we were extremely grateful for. The room was clean and a decent size (room 201) There was a set of doors that opened up with a barrier/balcony (not big enough to sit on) to stop you falling out. The rooms are fairly soundproofed but you will still hear sirens and cars beeping. The bathroom was well appointed with a good shower. Although we did not get out much, there is a McDonald and quite a few other restaurants and coffee shops a few mins walk away and a really good supermarket (Sole 365) which was so handy as several days we did not hardly go out. You are very close to a metro station (Municipio) and there are bus stops close by and it sits within walking distance of quite a few sights (sadly we didn't get to see many). We did book a 1/2 day tour of Pompeii through Viator and we were picked up and dropped off at the hotel which was very handy. We are hoping to come back again one day soon as it is such a wonder city and I would not hesitate to book here again, probably the kindest staff I have ever come across at a hotel and we have travelled a lot! Thank you to all the staff!
This hotel is well located near the port, we chose it as it's easy to get to all the main parts of Naples we wanted to visit and we were going to stay in Capri after 3 nights here so easy to get to the port... the hotel is on a busy street and we requested a room at the back of the hotel which was nice and quiet on the fifth floor. We paid for a superior M room whatever this mean I'm not sure.... the room only had a shower and to be honest it was a bit grotty with black grout around the bottom of the shower and the door to the shower was flimsy and kept falling apart... although we did feel the room was very clean and the bathroom was also very clean it just needed re-grouting... We visited the hotel at the beginning of September so it's not peak but still plenty of visitors and tourists around... one of the main reasons I chose this hotel is it really pushes its roof terrace bar as an attraction... when I got there I enquired about it and they informed me it only opens at 7.30pm each day and that there was no other bar in the hotel... for a four star hotel you would expect a bar to be open through the afternoon for refreshments... one evening we went up to the terrace at 8pm... it has great views however it was so poorly ran... the staff couldn't cope with half the tables filled with guests and when I paid the bill with cash they struggled to get change which took about twenty minutes and the whole thing was disorderly... Also I booked a double superior room as I said at the beginning... we didn't include breakfast as we prefer to go out of hotels to find local places to eat.... when we checked out we were told that there was a 26 euro supplement a night as my wife was staying with me in the room and it wasn't single occupancy! What rubbish! I've never heard anything like it! If you book a double room without breakfast why would you pay an extra 26 euros a night for your wife to stay with you! I don't remember seeing this on the Mercure website when I booked it, although it probably was there but what a load of rubbish! My wife complained and it was removed from the bill. There is an excellent ice cream shop at the end of the street from here which is great for a treat in the evening and does good pastries and coffee for breakfast time. Wouldn't stay here again just because of the bar amenities being so poor and the occupancy charge on the room was ridiculous... besides that well placed and clean enough rooms and ok rates...
We booked 2 non-smoking rooms, one double and one twin close to each other which we were given. We arrived earlier than check in time and one of the rooms was ready so we were allowed to go up and they rang us when the other room was ready. The rooms had effective aircon, were clean with comfy beds and both our rooms had balconies. We stayed 4 nights and found all of the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. They always spoke to us and booked a taxi for us when we left for the airport (30 euros). Breakfast was consistently good with a great variety of breads, cereals, salads, fruit, yoghurts, waffles, pancakes, meats, cheeses, croissants and sweet pastries, jams, honey, nutella, maple syrup, toast, scrambled eggs, sausages, biscuits, hot drinks a water cooler and fresh juices. Weekdays breakfast starts at 6.30. There is a lovely outside area which looks over the main port (with huge cruise ships visiting) and the smaller Molo Beverello dock and the and Castel Nuovo. Here there is currently building work where they are constructing a metro station but they obviously don't do much work in the summer as we saw no-one working! There are also tables indoors. From 7.30 in the evening this same area is open as a restaurant and bar. The menu is expensive and quite limited but again staff are very helpful and want to please. Overall we really enjoyed staying here. Rooms were cleaned daily, beds remade and towels changed. You get complimentary toiletries and tea and coffee in your room and a safe. Minibar is charged to your room. TV has lots of foreign channels and radio. We preferred to people watch from our balcony! The only improvement I would suggest would be to open up the restaurant are during the day for drinks and snacks as a place to relax - we certainly would have made use of it.
The hotel is fairly easy to find from the airport – bus to the port (second stop) and it’s a 5mins walk from there – road opposite the castle. Rooms were spacious, quiet (we slept well every night), and we also had a small balcony which was a bonus. A/C and Wi-Fi worked well. Bathroom was functional – only niggle was the hairdryer wasn’t very practical and easy to operate. Beds were very comfortable. There was a safe and mini bar which was useful for chilling drinks. Plenty of plug sockets and tea and coffee making facilities. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. Terrace area has good views of the castle. One complaint is that the floors weren’t very clean – I noticed lots of hair in the corners of the room when we arrived. Close to the centre – 15/20mins walk to the historic centre and the train station (both easy walks), 5/10mins walk to the shops and restaurants and the theatre, 5mins from the port to catch the fast ferries to the islands (note for the slower/cheaper ferries the ferry building is further down the road – 10mins walk in the red building). There’s a breakfast cafe 1min from the hotel on the corner which I can recommend. ATM across the street. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We booked to have a private tour with Francesco (?) to the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento. Although quite pricey for what it was, the convenience and luxury of an air-conditioned vehicle and no large groups of people was worth it! We had plenty of photo shops and had time in each place to explore. We had a lovely day and would recommend this tour. I would advise you can visit most sites around Naples (Pompeii, Herculaneum, islands – Capri/Ischia etc.) easily on your own and not with an expensive tour. It is both cheaper and more flexible; you can go at your own pace and not have restrictions of a group tour. Public transport is very cheap and fairly easy to negotiate. One tip would be to bring your own map / guidebook. The map the hotel provided was very poor with many road names not visible. I would stay at this hotel again. Naples has a reputation for not being safe at night; this hotel is not in a ‘dodgy’ area so we never had any problems. If you stick to the main streets and busy roads you shouldn’t have any issues but I would probably avoid quieter areas and roads, some are very narrow and dark.
