concierge was very helpful and provided us a small bus for the duration of our stay. the cost was reasonable and the driver did a very good job. she saved us a lot of walking and we were able to see a lot of Nanjing in a short space of time. many thanks to Frank for organising the tour.
Lovely rooms, good club lounge with reasonable range of food and drink, and attentive and friendly staff. . Non-smoking room actually didn't smell of old smoke. The lobby lounge is noisy so not suitable for work meetings, but otherwise a good place to stay in Nanjing for business.
I stayed one night in a suite. the internet worked only in some parts of the room, it was the slowest I have ever experienced in China. the IT person that came to my room could not fix it and try to give strange excuses. Bell boys do not speak English the hotel looks very very old. wrong place to stay , choose any other hotel in the city
Pros: 1. Staff at lobby 2. Room 3. Breakfast buffet Cons The room is fine except its air conditioning was not working. I was told that at the time of my stay (end of March), there is no air conditioning in the whole building. My room faced west or south, and the room temperature easily went over 28-29 degree in the day and night. It was too hot and I could not get to sleep in my first night. I reported the issue twice. First they sent a technical staff to my room but he told he could do nothing other than opening the window. The second time I complained, they put a "evaporating cooling machine" to my room, which was totally useless. Finally I was upgraded to a bigger room with normal room temperature. I appreciated that, but I could not understand why they turned off the air conditioning in hotel in March, probably in order to cut the energy bill.
Good value to stay. This tiome I only stay for one night. Good value to stay with the hotel. I booked the conference room for one hour for business purpose. The staffs on 46/F are friendly and service-satisfied. Only one minor comment, the laundry service returning time is next day 4pm. Since I need to leave hotel by 12:30, therefore, cannot use the service.
Long story short: the rating I am giving in the following is based on the concept of visiting a five star hotel. If you are happy with a solid 3 star hotel for a fair price, do not continue reading, because then the Sofitel is a really good choice. If you are interested in staying at a five star hotel, the picture might be a different one. We arrived by taxi, which cost us around 20 RMB from Nanjing Train Station. The entrance area looks ok, could be cleaner, though (floor, coffee tables, carpets, etc). The check-in was friendly, but it took longer than opening a bank account in China - this is really not standard anywhere anymore, especially as there was no priority check-in desk. As Accor Le Club platinum members, we were offered a nice upgrade. The room on 45th was very spacious and had an amazing view over the city to the nearby lake. Everything is functional, nothing was broken in the room. Still, as Sofitel considers itself 5 stars, I have to mention a few things. The furniture, except for the very comfy bed, is run down. The room is not really clean, which counts for all hotel areas I have seen (and I wasn't specifically "inspecting" as things were quite obvious - not for the cleaning staff, that is). The windows were dirty on the inside - still the "imprints" of someone's lightly oily forehead on the window glass, a long black hair nicely presented on the lamp shade by the bed, most surfaces a bit sticky and all glas areas like mirrors etc were very streaky. The metal frame of the bathroom sliding doors full of stains. It didn't feel really unhygienic, but the cleaning staff simply did not provide the service you must provide in a five star hotel. We went to the club floor on 46th floor for afternoon snacks and drinks. The staff is really helpful and attentive, the snacks and drinks provided are ok. Again, really ok but simply not five star. The concierge quickly arranged a taxi for us when we went out for dinner. In general, I was positively surprised how many people here spoke at least a bit of English. When we came back from dinner at around 9 pm, we asked the concierge where we could have a drink. He pointed at the lobby bar, but I didn't want to go because the bar area simply doesn't look welcoming as a bar (it is the waiting area in the lobby) and the selection of bottles displayed behind the bar wasn't a promising perspective, so we asked whether the club floor bar was still open - he said yes. So we went there, to find us as the only guests, while the staff had already emptied the buffet and prepared everything for next morning's breakfast. A little disappointing, but ok, as we were quite tired from the journey and the sightseeing anyway. In the room, the room service had meanwhile prepared for the night and put slippers next to the bed. One pair. We checked in to the room as a couple. Sigh. In the evening it turned out that the noise insulation of the door and walls was really weak - people talking in front of our door sounded like they were actually in our room. Breakfast the next morning was a little adventurous. We were made follow the waitress through the whole restaurant only to find no free table. In the end, after several rounds forced to follow different waiters without succes, we were put together in a separate room with other foreigners - not as bad as it sounds, as we were right in the middle of Chinese holidays and the place was packed! Anyone who knows Mad Max II, the scene when they provided water to the people, should have a picture of local buffet attitude, pushing, screaming, smoking (!). The waiters tried their best to accommodate our basic needs like bringing coffee to our table (well, the second cups as it took around 15 mins with a broken coffee machine and a big queue for the first cup which we got ourselves). I don't even want to go into further detail. Either I have a completely wrong concept of 5 Star Service, or the Sofitel in Nanjing is completely off the track. We travel a lot, AccorPlus Platinum status - so we do have enough places to compare. Or maybe not - because this was the most crazy Accor experience I have ever had and it, sadly, proves that traveling in Mainland China is often very little value for your money. There are other hotels in Nanjing which provide much better services.
Overall experience is exceptional. Staffs are friendly, and prompt in response. Breakfast is excellent & come with a lot of varieties. The hotel is nice for those travelling for business & leisure. She has a warm pool for swimming.
Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy certainly looks like a Sofitel from the exterior. Location is nothing to complain about. But when I got into the room- I got few surprises. The water tab on the basin is not nicely fixed. There are stains/ scratches all around the room (door, wall, furniture and etc). The tiles at the bathroom is simply tiled as the surface is not even with very bad craftsmanship. The window is extremely dirty. No bathtub in the room (isn't this a 5 stars hotel). No turn down service. The free tea and coffee sachets have not been replaced. Will definitely look for other option next round.
Stayed one weekend in Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy. Room was very nice and spacious, wifi worked well and location was great. I chose to have my breakfast next block behind the hotel, because they had all kind of tasty but cheap breakfast options. Next door in same building there was a lot of restaurants and awesome Korean barbecue. I would definitely stay again.
Being a Advantage Plus Member I expected to be looked after a little bit extra. However, the staff went out of their way to look after us from the Bar to the Dinning Room. Great location and handy to everything. Great Hotel.
