Started with the check-in at the Frontdesk, which was not really smooth as staff could not converse well in English. Had to ask a friend for some assistance with translation. Room was okay except for the Wi-Fi which was a hassle to connect to, also the internet speed was unreasonably slow. The light switches and air-conditioning were not working as desired. There was even a table-lamp that was not working after plugging it in. Adjusted the A/C temperature up and down but it seemed like there wasn't any difference in room temperature even after half an hour. Had to resort to opening the window to get some cool air into the room! Breakfast was good with a huge variety of items however it wouldn't hurt to change the menu every couple of days or so. The biggest pet peeve I found was that most of the staff on the property could hardly speak any English, this included the room service, restaurant staff, and also the staff who were stationed at the Hotel entrance.
Nice room 4218. Internet is insanely slow. Connecting to it need your phone number and country code. I have an Australian mobile, and temporarily Malaysian sim card. Have to go to reception for help which took time. Service at breakfast time was wanting. My latte took 20 minutes to come and was lukewarm. Ordered a cappuccino then. After a while was informed coffee machine broke down. A black coffee was served with cold milk resulting in lukewarm coffee. There seemed to be insufficient staff rostered this morning. Hope things improve tomorrow.
We enjoyed our two day stay in Nanjing. The Sofitel was a good choice with very good breakfast and clean, large rooms. Service was very good as well. The Hotel is within walking distance to the lake which also sports parts of the wall. However, I'd recommend to take a cab to the tower in the north-western part of the town for visiting the city wall.
Stayed in room 4301 - nice big room with huge twin window of 43 floor with partial lake view and nice city view. Good location within walking distance Xuanwu Lake Park or to catch public transportation i.e bus no. 34 to Zhong San Mountain Scenic area such Nanjing Muzeum/Dr. Sun Yat Sen Masoluem/Ming/Tomb/Botanic Garden/Meiling Palace Excellent bed, lighting and layout in room. Bathroom is huge & spacious. Reception is excellent and check in is smooth and concierge staffs is very helpful when asked for direction and call for taxi. Disappointed with the room as the room air conditioner temperature was set to 26.7C when I check in sweating. Below the air conditioner vent the carpet is wet and can smell a bit damp. Unfortunately housekeeping forgot to put toiletries - shampoo/conditioner/shower in shower room. Breakfast is excellent with wide variety / spread of food however for dinner it close very early at 9PM on a Saturday night and the restaurant manager/supervisor suggested to order room service instead. .
Amazing check-in process for Accor members at Priority Desk. Stayed for 5 nights and as a Platinum Member received an upgrade to the Executive Floor. The room was big with great views but furniture and carpets look so old. On the other hand, lobby and Executive lounge look brand new. The best thing at this hotel is the staff at the Executive Lounge (specially we want to thank Ms. Fay, Ms. Camila and Ms. Adele, that made our stay enjoyable). All of them really made an effort and try their best.
Absolutely fine hotel with international standards. Reception efficient. Room is large and well equipped with comfortable bed, large bathroom with tub and shower, safe, robes, flatscreen tv, tea/coffee making facilities, minibar, desk, free wifi, free bottled water. My room had a nice view of the sunset. Breakfast takes place in the all-day dining buffet restaurant, it's very large and the food selection is very extensive, you will be sure to find something to your liking.
I stayed in hotel for three days for a leisure tour of the city. When I made the booking on the internet, I was surprised by the relatively cheap rates of the hotel compared to those in other big cities in China, and also other five star hotels in Nanjing. After staying in the hotel for a few days, I can certainly understand why. This Sofitel has very good facilities like other Sofitel hotels elsewhere . The suite that I was staying in on level 45 was nicely appointed and tastefully decorated, with abundant space and a great view of the city. The room was clean, and it was made up more than once a day if I had to return to the hotel room a few times during the day. I used the large swimming pool a few times and the facilities at the change room were excellent. However, as it was the hottest time in summer, the pool was busy even after 9 pm. During the day, there were always scores of children frolicking in the pool, so lap swimming may be challenging. As this is an indoor pool with a sunroof, it did get quite warm around the pool in daytime. Otherwise the pool is one of the best indoor hotel pools that I have used. The gymnasium also appeared well equipped. However I did not use it as I was already sweating a lot just from stepping outside the hotel and waiting for a cab. The location of the hotel is on the perimeter of the inner city. As it is not within walking distance to any subway station, getting around without hailing a cab in the stifling heat is not possible. However, during peak hours, it could be quite challenging to get a cab. You either venture out in the street in oppressive heat to compete with locals for a cab, or even if you manage to get a cab, chances are you get stuck in the traffic going no where fast. There are two restaurants in the hotel, one Chinese and one Japanese. I had one buffet dinner which was part of a South East Asian food promotion. Even though there was a good variety of food, the quality was rather disappointing. It was definitely below what one would expect from a five star international restaurant. Perhaps the clientele was almost all local and they were not so demanding. There is an executive floor for Sofitel club members. However, if one is not a club member, it costs around $ US$ 60 for the use of the facilities for one day, which includes breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks in the evening. I think it is quite a big hit as that is more than half of the room rate that I paid for. It is a pity that a highly regarded hotel with good facilities and professional staff is somewhat let down by its location and to some extent, the rather ordinary food.
Enjoyed the excellent pool after a long, hard air journey from the US to China. Room is comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast included features many types of Western and Asian foods.Staff is most helpful for all one's needs.
Stopped here a few times now in 2017. Good points Breakfast is good Chinese restaurant is good Rooms are better than more expensively priced hotels in Nanjing. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Room for improvement. Just to be picky the gym equipment is a big rubbish. The multigym piece of equipment could do with being upgraded as it is very flimsy and a bit dangerous. But overall the gym is decent with free weights and a decent pool and friendly and helpful staff.
For 8 nights we stayed at the Sofitel Nanjing Galaxy Suning Hotel, and experienced friendly and efficient service from all staff. The location of the hotel is excellent and in easy proximity to buses and the metro. There are great small places to eat close by. Our 57 square meter room was very comfortable and clean with a wonderful view of Xuanwu ( lake ) and surrounding park areas.
