Taj Mahal Tower, Mumbai

I have stayed here in the past. I was not offered a room in the nice old original section. Instead I was put in a room in the newer tower. Not bad but not like the original. The part that was not good was the construction that was occurring on a floor above me from 10am to 10pm. All the staff could do was apologize and aske to move us.

First class hotel wonderful staff and amenities. Great stay at a great hotel.

This is our second time staying at this gorgeous hotel. The staff is amazing and wonderful. The restaurants are delicious. It was my husband's 70th birthday. We stayed at the hotel after a tour of Southern India. We were treated like royalty! Can't wait to go back!

True luxury hotel. Very relaxing. Beautiful amenities and views. Terrific!

Service is awesome, ocean view is amazing, best place in mumbai.

This is the first time I stayed at this Historical Hotel and I must say, Overall I was satisfy with my stay over there.

If you really want to spoil yourself then this is it. My husband got me two nights here as a birthday gift for my fortieth and you really cannot compare it to anywhere else. I had the cheapest room deal in the tower and still felt like royalty. I can't even imagine what staying in the older even fancier wing is like. If you are on a trip to India and want an experience go here and also to high tea in the hotel.

It is one of the best hotels in India. The service is great. The room was excellent. The bathroom is spacious and nice. We also got an upgrade to the Palace room since the tower is under renovation.

This is a very overrated hotel. Historic, yes. And, if you've made it all the way to Mumbai, I suppose you might as well try it out for a day or two if you can afford the price of admission. The public spaces aren't particularly grand or large (the lobby in the tower side is fairly large, and everyone congregates there the ornamental one in the palace is tiny). Food is OK, but outrageously expensive but most non-locals will pay rather than deal with Mumbai. The Harbour Bar, which dates from 1933 and which I had visited in the past, has been modernized with white seating and a bit of glitz, losing any sense that it is Mumbai's oldest watering hole. Now, it's just another slick Mumbai bar charm, history? Gone. I stayed in the tower, room 1404 with a very nice view of the Gateway of India. On entering the room, it smelled musty and felt damp I thought this might pass by running the AC. Not so. The next day I asked for a dehumidifier, which they installed. This tells me they are aware of this dampness issue. The tower is old, so carpet is worn (clean, but worn), paint is chipped and dirty in spots. The window is doublepane but not terribly tight, so you'll get noise from the Gateway late into the night. Also, there is an extensive renovation of the tower ongoing, so there is pounding and scraping all day, from early to quite late. So, if you want to rest in your room after hitting the streets, you will have a hard time relaxing. Staff is for the most part excellent there are some problems in billing and reservations. Not so much with the staff, as with the technology and bureaucracy, I suspect. I was also duped by one of the fellows who lines up taxis. I needed a taxi to go to the Trident Hotel on Nariman point. I know not that it should cost less than 100 rupees for a non-AC car. The Taj staffer quoted me 1000 rupees for an AC car, which I accepted as I wasn't aware of costs at that point. Of course, he was. Don't know if this is an isolated problem, or one across the hotel. The pool is a delight, and a fine place for a drink. Although there are plenty of smokers around, so that detracts. Won't be back and can't recommend.

The Taj is an exceptional hotel in so many ways. It is an exquisite historical hotel at one of the best locations in Bombay, but mostly because of the service. This is a 5 star hotel that lives up to its reputation and more. The service from the front desk, to the bellman, to room service, the gym, and the service in the restaurants was fantastic. Also, the detail and care that is taken by the staff is unparalleled. You get the impression that they want to make sure that the customer feels special, and that they are willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen. This is a place that exudes class. I don't think I have every been happier with a hotel than the Taj Bombay.

Fantastic hotel. Top notch service. Ranked in the top 20 Asia hotels and it definitely deserves to be there. Would definitely stay there again.

I have also stayed at the otehr Taj ( lands End). I personally think that is a better area for shopping and sight seeing. However if your work is closer to Koloaba area, this hotel is nice. The breakfast was pretty good as well. It is far from other parts of MUmbai.

Wonderful experience at the Taj. It's a old beautiful historical hotel set in a great location . Wonderful breakfast in the morning and very helpful thorough staff

Best 4 Days Ever! Very nice staff. Very good facilities.

We had a very good stay at this beautiful hotel. I would definitely stay their again. The Staff was very very good . They went out of their way to satisfy my family needs. My kids and wife loved the Breakfast.

When you walk into the hotel you are walking into the beauty of Indian History. They make you feel like royalty, by taking care of every smallest needs that you my have. Definitely planing to go back again in the future.

The Taj is now my favourite hotel. Yes, it was suitably located with very clean rooms (in my case thanks to Anita and Arun), comfortable beds, delicious food, incredibly friendly and helpful staff (like Viren and Priyanka). What made the experience stand out was the attention paid to the little things specific to me. I loved using the phone and being addressed by my name, instead of a random "Hello M'am". Gifts on the first night accompanied by an animal-folded towel were much appreciated. But you stole my heart with your Taj bookmark for the book I had left on my bedside table and the gorgeous bouquet of red roses - unforgettable!!! I hear a bicycle tour is in the makings - something else to look forward to. Well worth another stay!

Service is absolutely flawless and fantastic. The hotel is a wonderful sight and treat to be in. Such a historic building. Very comfy beds and rooms, maintained and cleaned excellently. Food is great, with a ton of options in the hotel, and many more within walking distance. 'High Tea' in the Sea Lounge is unbelievably good. Amazing value for money, and just a real treat all round. Finding it hard to leave this place, and I've already extending my trip by 2 days because the hotel is so good. Best in Mumbai, Best in India, arguably, best in the world.

US hospitality businesses could take a lesson from the exceptional service provied at the Taj.

The service at the Taj is fit for a maharaja! We got an early check in & a late check-out on request at no extra cost. We received a flattering welcome with a beautiful flower garland. The check in staff could not locate our reservation on their system but were very courteous, we even received a bouquet of roses and an apology letter for this incidence later in our room. The lavish interiors of the hotel truly adds to the Taj experience. Good restaurant options, personally loved the burger and rasmalai by the pool! Finding taxis willing to run on the meter was a bit of a challenge, most drivers were opportunistic wanting to charge much more which was a bit of an issue & the bell boys outside seemed overwhelmed and therefore not very helpful!
