We chose this hotel based on traveler reviews. The lobby was nice and check-in was ok. We were disappointed with the room in the main building. It had a musty smell and was dark and very loud. It did have a nice picture window and sitting area with a view of the mountains. When it was not raining we could hear every noise from the surrounding rooms. The mattress was thin and uncomfortable. No padding or pad - just one sheet over a bare mattress. The shower head was not a rainfall shower head, just a regular one. Most days we did not get enough towels and had to call to get more. Breakfast was good and the dining room and bar has windows overlooking the garden and jungle and hills and the hotel staff were nice. The location is far out of Santa Elena, away from the shops and restaurants and down a very bumpy road, but only 1 km from the reserve. They set up a tour with a local guide for us and we really enjoyed it. This hotel was no frills, but ok for what it was.
The Trapp Family lodge is a well appointed facility located very close to the reserve. While a short drive from the commercial/shopping/restaurant district, Monteverde is well served by taxis if you don't have your own transportation and don't want to walk. Our room (#20) had very nice wood floors, tiled shower with frameless glass door, two comfy beds with plenty of blankets, a TV, safe, coffee maker, hair dryer (something missing in many places), clock and a sitting area separated from the beds by curtains affording windows the full width of the room with a view of the forested hills. The included breakfast was scrambled eggs, plantains, pancakes, cereal, fruit, coffee and tea served in a upscale modern restaurant. The lodge is well done simple comfort in a quiet and beautiful location - a real treat.
Hotel nice, quiet, sweet but no grounds to speak of at all. No complaints but not a place to spend time. Everyone should know not to drive themselves up this mountain if you don't like extremely rough cliff roads. Tour bus the best way. Driving was horrendous in our economy rental car. Almost ruined the whole trip and sure gave us extreme stress and back pain. Felt like a mountain jungle trail, seriously
This is a very nice hotel. The restaurant was nice they had good food choices and delicious drinks. The staff was very friendly and inviting. Our room was a bit of a walk but the view is gorgeous tall ceilings comfortable beds very nice shower and bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this to everyone
Beautiful serene and rustic hotel in a beautiful location but a bit tricky to get to. Wish we had more time to spend here and enjoy the surroundings.
We booked the hotel very last minute and was very pleasantly surprised. A small peaceful hotel with a very friendly staff. They had great recommendations for local places to visit and when and which company to go with for canopying. The restaurant was very good and had a beautiful view of the canopy. The breakfast (which was included for the price!) was a lovely basic buffet of pancakes, fruit, cereal, coffee, juice, and breads, and the local favorite - gallo pinto. The rooms were basic, but included comfortable beds and a nice hot shower. A great way to end a day of hiking! I would definitely go back again.
The lobule was under construction and no one mention that. We pay $130. The room was very good and the location near to the tarot but I think it's better to take cheaper one in the center monteverde or Santa Elena . Israel
