I stayed in the building 8 with a beautiful view over mountaines. The hotel provided me with VIP status with discounts for food and drinks. Also would recommend the night walk offered at the hotel.

Nice, mountainside resort conveniently located within walking distance to town.

Very nive hotel but not like i expect. But tge staff was very nice. If you want a 2-3 star hotel it is great.

This hotel had the opportunity to be a rockstar but the staff did not have things in order. 1. We asked the best way to get to monteverde reserve and the clerk said to walk. It took an hour each way and she did not tell us of the big orange bus that comes by all the time for cheap. 2. Clerk did not ask if we wanted a key for the in-room safe when we later saw another clerk ask other guests. We thought it was just missing. Clerks showed little excitement/emotion. 3. The rooms are so far away from everything which is fine, but you need a shuttle to get to reception, breakfast, lunch, dinner, spa, etc. and the wait was sometimes 15 minutes or more because they only had one van. This hotel is not walkable. 4. Wifi did not work for the whole first day and started working overnight. 5. No air conditioning, heat, or even a fan in the rooms. 6. Only one bar of soap for sink/shower combined. Nice bathroom though! 7. Loud doors. 8. Room phone was not plugged in. No house phone in building to call reception for when our key stopped working. Had to search the building and lucky to find a maintenance person. 9. Room only had one rocking chair while others had two. We were two people so could not sit outside together. Hotel was really nice overall but they did not pay attention to details. The WiFi was a huge disappointment, as well as the slow shuttle. It is not the driver's fault, but they need a second van running!

All the staff were so friendly and helpful!! The room had a great view and was pretty big for 2 people. There were just some amenities that were missing for the price. Only 2 towels for a room with 2 queen beds! And only 2 pillows per bed. Also no headboards on either bed, so the pillows kept falling. And annoyingly, they do not provide coffee pods in the room on check-out day. All of these little details added up to make it feel like we did not get our money's worth.

We were amazed when we walked into our room! It was very spacious with glass doors and balconies on two sides of room and the most spectacular views of the rain forest. Very private. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning!

There was no wi-fi in our room throughout our 2 night stay. No hot water the first night for shower and the front desk was closed by 10 PM. The person who answered the after-hours number didn't speak english and hung up on me. The front desk staff was not very helpful. e.g. When I asked about key to the safe in the room, I was told they forgot to give to me and I have to come to the front desk (we were in building 900, which is the highest one and only the hardy would enjoy the steep walk down in rain and high wind.) I had doubts about getting our room cleaned and called to make sure it will be cleaned before heading out for the day. I was assured it will be. It was not cleaned. Room is very dark with minimal lighting and furnishing. Despite all the issues, I loved the view, wild mammals who were outside our balcony, and simplicity of the room. Good wifi, at least one lamp that is bright enough to read, a few hooks or table to hang up wet clothes, and smiling staff would make this hotel outstanding.

I am a big fan of the rustic look so I really liked this hotel built on a hillside. It's clean, the staff were very friendly, courteous, and professional. I wanted bookings to the canopy/zip line and the hanging bridges tour at the Selvatura park the next day and they took care of all that without any problems. Those without rental cars might want to stick to rooms at the lower elevation because of the steep climb to the rooms at the higher elevation.

Other than the fact we had no hot water the first day and had to use a nasty community plunger after every flush (#1 & #2), the hotel was lovely. Grounds are amazing but be prepared to walk a pretty steep hill. No AC and no fan plus little windows made the warm nights a little sticky.

El Establo is very nice. It is quite large and my only negative was that I was lead to believe i was going to be in a room on the top of the hill where the views are better. Overall the room was good, scenery still good just not quite as spectacular if higher up. Employees are very friendly. The rooms and property very very clean. I was a bit irritated at check in to learn I needed to pay an extra $50 per night as my child i was told didn't qualify as a child but when booked i was told her age did qualify. The restaurants were a but pricey for the options. Overall I do recommend this property and definitely Monteverde!!

Very nice development but hard to get around. Very limited WiFi

Zip line, hiking and spa were all great and convenient. Restaurant was mediocre (Lagos). Breakfast great.

This hotel is too spread out. You have to take a shuttle everywhere you go. The rooms are large and beautiful but it is not worht the trouble to call for a shuttle even for the reception area. You have to call to get ice--it took 20 minutes. For us it was too big a hassle. We had 3 nights booked and decided to leave a day early-it is clearly stated in all their literature that there are no refunds and they did not return our money. There 3 couples trying to get refunds in line with us and none of were given refunds. Beautiful area but a total ripoff

Great loft room great for privacy when traveling with children excellent view

Great hotel in general. Two outstanding restaurants with delicious food. People there were very kind and always trying to help us. Canopy tour is great and private as is the night walk. Only negative is that everything inside the hotel is far away and uphill walks which can take a while. Fantastic hotel in general.

Great resort - would definitely recommend to other travelers. Had the trappings of a luxury resort: free shuttle service, beautiful pool, great restaurant, amazing buffet breakfast, and concierge to set up tours. The view from our rooms were stunning - the rooms were simple, clean, and took full advantage of the views. Staff, especially Ronny, our tour guide, and all the shuttle drivers, were consistently friendly and helpful. The only hitch was Orbitz charged us a higher price and didn't include breakfast for a Sunday night stay (which we added later) than our price for a Friday and Saturday night stay. Made no sense. Tried to negotiate at least a free breakfast, but it ended up getting a little uncomfortable: a not great end to an otherwise amazing stay.

Hotel staff was rude, non apologetic. deactivated room key after one night, reason given was that the staff was not informed of our check out date. Bear in mind, this is the same person who check us in!!! No bell boy service available. Phone rings for up to 10 mins when calling reception. Shuttle service wait over 20 mins to go to the restaurant. Tour desk was only interested in selling tour packages at the property. Food mediocre. Overall, do not recommend this spot to anyone.

Great restaurants, view. Comfortable rooms with balcony. Good trails.

This was a very nice hotel with a great location in Monteverde, close proximity to Santa Elana. The walls are very thin in the hotel, meaning you can hear everything that others in your hallway are doing. Included breakfast was great, and staff was pleasant.

It's a very nice hotel, but expensive compared to others we stayed at in Costa Rica. The restaurant especially - not enough value options, although the food was admittedly delicious.
