Upon arrival was placed in a room next door to a room being renovated, when asked to be moved we were advised that they had asked the tradesman to keep it down and that there should not be a problem. We explained we needed to sleep during work hours and was told we again should not have a problem. As were more than a one night stay they found it to difficult to move us. And that beggars the next question why place a longer stay booking in the room furthest from the lobby and facilities next to the noisy renovations. When we advised we would be cancelling attitude of staff went from mediocre to whatever. Really disappointed as was looking forward to stay. From the 2 hours we spent there windows filthy with drunks hanging all around hotel. Actually worked to our advantage as we found a wonderful hotel.
The hotel is well situated and has easy access to what the city can offer. However, the hotel rooms and ambiance is looking tired. The prices charged are fair for what you get. Our room was comfortable, but the lighting in the bathroom was very poor, especially for a lady!
The rooms are clean and room service is good. The corridors and public areas could be a lot cleaner. The Gym definitely need a good vacuum. The pool surrounding tiles are dirty and need a good scrub. The tiles around the pool are very slippery. Hotel breakfast is ordinary(No cooked vegetables). The room fridge hinges can be changed to matched the opening of the cabinet. This is specially important for the small rooms. Staff are courteous and helpful.
Had a great stay. Everything so conveniently licated. Loved the history, gardens and all the seating spots there and in the foyers Staff all very helpful and friendly. Recognising parking limitations but a very slight drawback and a little soured as some other parker left a ding in our car. Buffet breakfast extensive and enjoyable but the coffee......not so good.
The room was clean but very old and outdated with no windows. To make matters worse, it was located right next to the Ballroom / Events Room. Straight away I went back down to the reception to ask if there was an event that night and if noise would be an issue (and if I should change rooms before I unpacked as I had an early start the next morning). I was told no it would not be an issue. However there was an event and it was very loud with voices and one constant banging door that shook the whole room and made it impossible to relax / go to bed. The mini fridge was also very loud, starting and stopping every 30 minutes. At 10.30pm I rang reception and asked to be moved but was told the event "should soon be quiet". I don't think the door stopped banging until after 11.30pm. Never again.
I have stayed at this property on several occasions and I'm pleased to say it is in the process of being renovated. This time I was allocated a renovated room with a balcony overlooking the entrance to the hotel and across the road to the park and river. The room was very comfortable although a little noisy because of traffic and as it was a Saturday night there were some noisy guests leaving late at night. My family were in a renovated room above the restaurant and they also had some noise problems - nothing serious, just annoying. The hotel is very well situated with many restaurants and bars nearby including at least two attached to the hotel. They were very busy and if you are staying at the weekend I would recommend booking. The food was fresh and well presented and the serves large. The park opposite is peaceful and there is a lovely walk way along the Murray. The parking for the hotel is across the road in a public car park which could be a problem for some guests.
Well, what do you expect for $120 a night? How about a virtual suite, 3 beds, old-world grandeur, huge bathroom, fully-stocked bathroom, free wi-fi, comfy beds, huge wardrobe..... In a fabulous old-hotel that evokes all the glamour of travel in a by-gone era? Love the Grand. Only downsides - I'm a bit over the full-stocked bar fridge these days (would just prefer good fridge space for my own fruit/veg/delectables collected while travelling), and the free parking is just the commercial one across the road (meaning you have to bring all your stuff into your room for security.) Apart from those minor niggles, fabulous for the price!
The hotel is perfectly located near the river, the main shopping areas and also loads of great restaurants. When we arrived the staff went out of their way to find a ground floor room, as the reserved one was up a large flight of stairs which my partner could not handle - no lift in that wing of the hotel! The room was clean and comfortable and kept that way during our 3 night stay. The only downside was that a bar was located very close by and the potential for noise was very high, especially on the weekend. My partner was kept awake on the Friday night by a large group of teens who were partying nearby till 2am! There was no phone in the room to call reception either.
I have previously reviewed this lovely old hotel, and I must say how pleasantly surprised I was with the room we were given. Room 230 poolside room, no noise, beautifully appointed. This is the best location in Mildura.
It was great, Did not expect this in Mildura, being a world traveller and spending lots of nighst in pubs around mining towns. Lady at reception, with braces, was awesome, lost of help and I was made to feel comfortable. On the way back home from outback South Australia I will be back.
