on arrival the receptionist was very welcoming . our room was very comfortable and was cleaned daily .the breakfast was well laid out with a good variety off food we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel
I think this property needs a considerable amount of money invested to bring it back to being Grand. The location is fantastic with everything within an easy walk. It may be picky but whistle walking to our room the floors made a lot of noise. I realise that them floors are timber and old, but this is caused by loose nails in the floor boards.
I stayed at the Grand way back in the 1970s. It has lost none of its historic charm, but they have updated everything and the rooms are now very modern and comfortable. Unfortunately, it was a Monday and some of the restaurants were closed.
The hotel is clean and efficiently run, with rooms serviced promptly. We had a newly re-furbished room on ground floor. Ensuite has plenty of bench space. Bed was huge with t little room for anything else. We planned to do the whole Grand experience including restaurants, and advised restaurants charged back to room. Pizza cafe was crowded and noisy, but food fine and inexpensive. Next night, Stefanos was a complete rip off, with average to awful food, wine list appalling and horribly expensive, and refused to charge back to room. Cancelled booking at Spanish Bar and Grill. Happily there are many other restuarants in the vicinity.
The grand is an old property. It has been around for a long time. Comfortable and the staff are great. Nothing is too mu h trouble. The pool is ample and gym basic but does the trick if you are that way inclined. We stayed for two nights. Bed was great. Room clean and comfortable. If noise from the road bothers you ask for a quiet room.
The Grand has so much romanticism attached to it so it's sad that it feels like a transaction now. No warm welcoming, off the cuff directions to your room, no sense of passion. It's a shame because my family has such fond memories of this iconic Mildura hotel.
Quiet clean, close to everything. My room was upstairs facing the road., even over weekend it was quiet. Didn't have foxtel so had to watch some of my nrl on my tablet. The welcoming note from room attendant was a nice touch. The staff at reception were great.
After working all day then driving 5 hours we finally arrived at The Grand. The outside looked impressive. The foyer was nice and inviting. That is where it ends. The plans are date 1916 I think it was and When we opened the door it was a shock to say the least. A tiny room with the worst ensuite ever. It was so old and tired looking you couldn't even call it a renovators delight. Very sad that they haven't bothered to maintain the rooms. This is one hotel I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Even the lamps were nailed down and glued back together see pic. Horrid!
The Grand Hotel is a relic from the days of railway hotels. It is an enormous complex, with both old and new accommodation. Our favourite is room 1 in the old section on the first floor, overlooking the river and the railway station (sadly the passenger trains no long operate). Room 1 has a sheltered balcony, a sitting room, a large bedroom with three beds (twins and a Queen), a dressing room and a bathroom with a spa bath. The rooms are comfortable with an aged patina, and always very clean.
We stayed here because Stefanos restaurant was down stairs and we were booked into the restaurant. We were very glad we did as I made a mistake with our online booking and Natalle was great and corrected my mistake for me. The room was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely stay here again.
