My wife and I stayed here 3 nights in February 2018. The room was basic but very clean. Both day and night staff could not have been more friendly or more accommodating. Not sure we'll ever go back to Merida but if we do, I would definitely stay here again. Free hot breakfast was also included.
What a perfect week-long stay we had - would have stayed on if there had been space. Owned by a welcoming Canadian and run on a daily basis by Daniel, a charming and capable Mexican manager and an efficient, friendly staff, this hotel succeeds in every way. The location is excellent, with easy walks in every direction to the usual places of interest, restaurants, etc. Rooms are comfortable, immaculately clean, and - although ceilings are high - there is AC available if needed. Breakfast is delicious, served at a communal table, and features a different Mexican special each day. One of the highlights for us was meeting interesting and likeable people from all over the world. One woman stays for 2 months each winter, which sounds like a great idea to us! The refrigerator allows space for guests' own food, and the desk can arrange any type of outing, from group tours to an individual driver for the day. Above all, the vibe was so positive, friendly and helpful in every way that it is no wonder people like us now consider this a home away from home in Merida.
I loved spending a couple of months at del Perigrino in Merida, a perfectly situated little hotel. An old Spanish Colonial on a bus-less street within easy walking distance to the Paseo Montejo, Santa Lucia Park, Mexican Night, Santa Ana, Mercado Juan de Galvez, Plaza Grande, Teatro Jose Peon (Symphony), galleries, restaurants and the magnificent architecture that is Merida. Folk are friendly and helpful and things get going in the evenings in the local parks and shops where walking alone at night is very common, The FOOD at the hotel is amazing, wonderful big breakfasts prepared from scratch and served between 7:30 and 9:30am. every morning! The kitchen is available for guest use which is nice for longer stays and there is a lovely pool and shaded outdoor area for guest use a few blocks down, Don't miss La Cubanita for amazing beef, pork, fish or vegetarian dish options at very good prices. Oliva for Italian, La Lucero del Alba for a beer and botanas.
Great way to start the day with a wonderfully cooked Mexican breakfast at Hotel del Peregrino. The ambience of hotel was warm and welcoming and the service by the staff was excellent. They were very kind and extremely helpful.
We visited Hotel del Peregrino and had a delicious breakfast of “huevos motulleñous”! Wonderful friendly staff!! It is a great place to experience the authentic warmth of Merida and its people! Can’t be missed!
My wife and I stayed here many times when we visit Merida and enjoy this wonderful little place very much. Great value, good breakfast and clean rooms make it one of our favorites. With friendly staff always greeting us with a warm smile and good service, we have recommended del Peregrino to friends and our own guests and will keep doing so in the future.
I am happy to recommend this little gem of a hotel. A very authentic place, and reasonably priced, near the city center, within walking distance of many places, and included- an excellent breakfast which is different each day. Also, good wi-fi service, nearby on-street parking (free), and delightful and helpful staff. Altogether a fine experience, and would gladly stay there again.
We loved our stay at Peregrino. It really felt like home away from home. The staff was very friendly. We checked in at 11pm and wanted to pay for the room in pesos after exchanging currency. They were very kind to allow us to pay next day. Every thing was within 15-20 minutes walk. After so much eating and drinking we appreciated the daily walk to and from hotel. Almost every night we returned to our room at midnight or later feeling very safe. The front door is locked at night. We rang the door bell and immediately a front desk person opened the door and greeted us nicely. Our room didn’t have windows but we really didn’t miss it. There’s so much to do in Merida so we only came to our room for an afternoon nap and late night to sleep. The breakfast was small portion by american standard but it was delicious. They serve you soon as you take a seat at the table. There was a choice of orange juice and coffee. Then they serve a bowl of fresh fruits and toast with jam & butter on side. Then comes the main breakfast entree. They always tell you what the main entree is and if you need any modification done. I’m a vegetarian so they always made sure there was no meat in my plate. We stayed 8 nights and never had the same breakfast twice. I think I got spoiled being served every morning. My boyfriend loved the coffee they served. There was always lots of room to sit. I don’t think we spent more than 10-15 minutes at breakfast. You can sit around longer if you want but never because you’re waiting to be served. They also have a small refrigerator in kitchen for guests to use. My BF likes a certain beer that we bought in town and kept in fridge. They also have a refrigerator stocked with cold drinks including wine for purchase. The WiFi is great. Our room was on main floor and we had no problem with noise. TV is small but we hardly watched TV. We didn’t use the pool. We didn’t have a car to park but saw many guests curb park directly in front of the hotel. In the lobby they have a binder of tours that are available. They called the tour office to schedule our tour. We got picked up and dropped off at the hotel. It was very very convenient. We did the Uxmal and Kabeh day time tour with lunch. It was cheaper than renting a car for the day and doing it on our own. There was hot water for shower every day. We loved the bed as it was very comfortable. We pulled the sheets up from the corner to see what kind of mattress it was in case I want one for home when we replace ours :) It was a pillow top but couldn’t make out the brand. Couple of mornings the owner stopped by and we watched him interact with his staff....he was very friendly and respectful. That tells us how he runs his business and why his staff is happy and friendly. Few FYI: uber from airport to hotel was MX71.96 which was just under $4. Uber from city center/the main park to hotel was about $1.22 if you’re too tired to walk. We had an early morning flight on Saturday so we asked front desk to schedule a taxi to airport which was MX150. My only one suggestion for the hotel is to offer coffee earlier in the morning for those who wake up early. My BF wakes up at 6 o’clock every morning and waiting for coffee till 7:30 with breakfast was too long. Maybe a self serve coffee can be set up earlier in the dining area.
In a few short days we knew the names of the entire staff (who were wonderful!) The pool down the street has an excellent vibe. The Breakfasts are delicious and shared with the other guests made it a lovely social hour. Plenty of hot water. We could not have been happier.
Overall nice stay. Staff available 24/7 and very nice. Free Breakfast was delicious and freshly made. I do suggest 2nd floor if possible due to noise in courtyard seating area on first but not too bad. Take earplugs for night. I payed $48 on expedia and had room #6 right behind cooking area. Dont suggest it due to some noise but not too bad. Other rooms probably bigger than mine. AIrcondition was great. Nice shower. Room was pretty basic. Hotel about 15 min walk to main plaza in centro and 5 min to south end of paseo de montejo.
